I'm almost finished my first play through of this fucking game and I'm so utterly and completely disappointed in the rigidity of the factions, how little they fucking respect you, and how there's next to no interaction between the other factions.

You can't rally the minutemen and negotiate a mutually beneficial alliance with the brotherhood of steel to use your combined overwhelming numbers and military technology to overwhelm the Initiative.. Nor does Arthur Maxson ever acknowledge you for the actual, tangible, real-life, leader of the minutemen: easily the largest citizenship and military faction in the commonwealth.

Father never makes ANY attempt at either explaining the Institute to you, letting you make a counter-argument, nor is there really ANY discussion between your two characters. Father literally does whatever he wants till the moment he dies and any attempts to communicate with him are brushed off as he sends you off to do some stupid fucking chore.
Never mind the other blatant issues: They never make any attempts to justify or rationalize why they're kidnapping people and replacing them with Synths. Synths aren't even machines, they're clones, they're literally clones or more accurately 'cyborgs' since the only mechanical part of them is a kill switch installed in their brain. They also NEVER acknowledge the FEV experiments and you can't confront father about this when you discover it.

You don't have to do any of the heinous stuff. I at least know I only played them through once to see what their ending was, but I've always had ballistic weave.

4's worst crime is forcing your character to have a specific story arc. Since the game starts with you being a loving father, and the main goal of the game is to find your baby, it's completely illogical why your character would even give other people's issues the time of day, or why you'd be anything other than a good person.

The game would have been infinitely better if you went into cryo and then woke up to find everyone was gone. Your wife, shaun, the other vault residents - all gone. It would allow you to then decide how your character deals with this, and thus what they'll be like on the surface.
Do you choose to believe they were all kidnapped? Maybe something terrible happened and you're the only one left? Maybe they abandoned you? Are you worried? Vindictive? Did your character secretly hate your old life and jumps on this new opportunity?
You can still have everything else narratively be the same. Shaun can still turn out to be the leader of the insitute. However, allowing your character to make their own decision regarding what happened to them in the vault makes the reason why you find him so early/late make more sense, or why you might not have even tried.

But really, nothing about institute makes any sense. The whole idea of synths is obviously ripped from Blade Runner, but it makes no sense in the Fallout universe because in Fallout there are ALREADY robots and AIs going back to the pre-war era that act as mankind's servants/slaves.

With that in mind, there is LITERALLY NO REASON TO MAKE SYNTHS AT ALL if your purpose is to have them as slave labor to "do the jobs that humans don't want to do" or whatever. There are already Mr Handys and the like. Been a while since I checked, but last I saw, there really aren't any content/gameplay mods that make FO4 worthwhile. Only stuff I saw was the simple shit like texture mods and additional armor/weapons/etc. I'm assuming the low quality of the FO4 modding scene is a result of Creation Club kikery.

That and many of FO4's problems (lack of towns, few side quests, terrible dialogue, no real choices, quests are all shitty MMO-tier quests, etc) aren't the sort of things that can really be fixed via mods.

The Minutemen only work if in-game progress is taken into account. Fully built settlements that can provide food, water, and security to the Commonwealth, raider enclaves like Nuka World wiped out, that kind of thing. You know, an actual infrastructure that can be defended with the Minutemen's standing army.

The Institute can only work if you kill all the loyalists to the old regime, because nobody that worked for Father is ever going to go along with the massive reform you'd need in order for the Institute and its resources to do anyone any good. That's not something you can really do in-game, so you've got to headcanon that shit a lot harder than you do with the Minutemen.

People seem to forget Elder Lyons was told to fuck off by the entire Western seaboard of the faction when he told them what he was doing. The EC BoS had to fend for themselves with no supply trains, and struggled with internal conflict as die-hard members left and became the Outcasts.

The Fallout 4 BOS are a mix of Elder Lyon's ideals combined with the old ways of the Western splinters. They're going to fight off super mutants and help the locals, but they're going to take your tech to arm themselves and Lord help you if you try to stop them.

I just started survival and while new vegas’s was pretty half assed it at least felt like it had the bare fucking minimum like showing you your stats and how much things like food gives. The shittiest tank is still a tank at the end of the day and the same can be said about power armor. I wouldn't mind it that much if you could get it right away, but you just had to know where to go for it however getting railroaded into it right from the start takes away from the experience and doesn't make a whole lot of sense since you should need training first to even properly use it.
