This. Hyper-optimized PS3 games are incredibly tricky just to get barely working on an x86 or x64 CISC computer because of the fundamental differences in processor architecture. It's the same reason why Naughty Dog games never come out on PC. Some of that is Sony's faggotry, but mostly it's because the performance would be bad and there would be horrible compatibility issues. Though ND did port TLoU onto the PS4 from the PS3, which is almost the same feat. However I don't know how well they managed that.

BC2 is just a more focused experience. It's less large-scale, more tuned to squad-based infantry vs infantry. Vehicles are still pretty important, though- a tank is a force, but falters without infantry support

Sony doesn't hold their properties hostage. They own their shit. They can do whatever with the stuff they paid to get made, and that's okay, becuase if Sony didn't pay for these games to get made they wouldn't exist in the first place. (I might have to add to that, so I don't get called a shill here or whatever, that I don't particularly care about most Sony exclusives, never owned a Sony console except the used PS2 my uncle gave me and the used PS3 my brother gave me, and I generally think Naughty Dog games are crap - yes, even Crash.)
But what you are right about is that the PS3-architecture actually was intended to be somewhat of a hostage situation. When Sony had utterly dominated the console market in 6th gen with the PS2 to the point where they basically cornered it, they did what Sony does: they got cocky. They thought the same thing would happen with the PS3 aswell, and they deliberately designed the CPU to be complicated to develop for, for the sole purpose that developers wouldn't bother creating ports of the PS3-games they made. And they would have no choice but to develop for the PS3, because PS3 would corner the market the same way the PS2 did. The problem is, the latter thing just didn't happen for a multitude of reasons. Sony's price tag (FIVEHUNDREDANDNINETYNINE), their marketing just didn't really work (The power of the cell is infinite!), no games, all those memes from almost 15 years ago. Plus, 2005/2006 was a very transitional phase for technology, all with HDMI, internet becoming relevant on consoles, etc., and Xbox 360 launched a year before the PS3. The result was that Sony's masterplan to indirectly force devs to make PS3-exclusives simply didn't work, and devs just developed on Xbox 360 and then ported to PS3. That's why in 7th gen multiplats looked better on 360, even if the PS3 technically was stronger.
