Dragon's Dogma Online CLOSING DOWN

DDON is now on life support and entering a grave two weeks before MHF, on the 5th of December. This reduces COG down to two mobile games if they're even still going to be standing up by the end of the year, and like Frontier there's no telling if everything or if anything at all from DDO will make it into a theoretical sequel.

The game lasted for four years. Did Yea Forums try it out at one point?

>Did Yea Forums try it out at one point?
never even knew it was a thing

I only heard good things about it. What went wrong?

>four years
That's a pretty short lifespan for an MMO, isn't it? Maybe if they'd opened it up to the west it wouldn't have withered up and died...

There's a Dragon Dogma Online???

Its an MMO, that is Japan only, on consoles.

To nobody's surprise, COG is super fucking stubborn.

it suffers from forbidden fruit syndrome imo. it was largely soulless compared to the original.

>make a MASSIVELY MULTIPLAYER ONLINE ROLE PLAYING GAME
>japan only
What a fucking surprise it didn't last.

Yeah got tired of the class I was playing and grinding a new class up seemed tedious sometime during the 3rd season. Speaking of which I'm kinda half-tempted to redownload it again just to finish the story of that season but I didn't really care too much about Nero

I played a ton of it and enjoyed it. RIP in peace.

It was hot garbage to be honest. No physics. All NPCs stay still for the rest of their lives, 90% of the enemies are reused cyclops, goblins, even fucking Daimon got recycled. No weight system, speed is locked on the class you you use and even then you can never be as fast as in DA.
The game and gameplay is balanced around p2w making it a big fucking chore to play.
The game was hot garbage, it wasn't Dragon's Dogma. Pretend it never existed and for the sequel.

What class should I roll in DDDA? I ran through it like 2 years ago as a fighter. And I didn't enjoy mage because it felt clunky.

>Have an amazing concept for a game
>Really fun mechanics and gameplay
>Original game for various reasons ends up being a scale model of what they wanted to build
>Could easily push those ideas into the wider scope of a full sized MMO, if not just a sequel
>Instead they half ass a """MMO""" and release it only in japan, never really making any reference to the fact that it exists

In a world where MMO competition is at an all time low it's amazing they can be so fucking stupid.

To be fair, Capcom was pants on head retarded for awhile and Dragon's Dogma somehow managed to happen directly in the middle of Capcom sucking a giant bag of dicks.

Vanilla Dragon's Dogma literally had popups telling you to buy DLC. It's amazing what that game went through to exist.

>It's amazing what that game went through to exist

A lot of Capcom games are like that aren't they?

Their recent run of quality is nice, but I remain wary of all AAA games publishers.

What type of character are you looking to play? The hybrid classes exclusive to the arisen are all safe bets though. Want an all-rounder class that can fight toe-to-toe with some monsters while staying back to sliing some magick at dudes other times? Magick Archer might be up your alley. Want a magical fortress of fuck you that can conjure up giant orbs to become a siege fortress on legs and tank everything including your frame rate? Mystic Knight has got you covered. I don't have a fun description for Assassin but they're good too.

Yeah i played for some months years ago honestly thought it was one of the best f2p mmos ever but got sick of downloading updates through VPN and not being able to understand stuff, always hoped for a slim chance at localization guess that ain't happening now.

I don't remember, but was there anything with axes or hammers?

What is even upcoming for Capcom aside from Iceborne and whatever Itsuno is working on? Hard to say what will happen yeah, they haven't been too bad lately but in the earlier part of the decade they were doing all kinds of bullshit.

there was a dragon's dogma online?

You thinking big two handed axes or hammers or smaller ones? Warrior is the designated slow heavy hitter with the fuckhuge weapons that are sometimes Axes or hammers while Mystic knights have Maces as an exclusive weapon though they usually play second fiddle to their magic and giant shield

core mechanics were garbage because it was f2p but they vastly improved combat by overhauling classes. Sorcerer was actually fun to use and warrior wasn't a piece of shit that could only spam jump attack

I'd wanted to try it, but my internet is too shit to justify going through the hoops that game required. I thought the collab with Overlord was pretty cool.

How were the extra classes?

All their new games have been disappointing as fuck there new renascence is over-hyped here, I will give props toward RE Engine though that shit look amazing.

I tried it out during open beta, even bought the physical release after the fact. Never played it regularly afterwards though, VPN fuckery was too much.

That sucks played this game off and on as new stuff got released. The class design was really cool for an MMO especially considering it wasn't tab target. Hope they bring co-op / some of these ideas into DD2

Alchemist in particular was really fun
-Tank which draws aggro by punching people
-attacking grows crystals on enemies
-could detonate crystals (losing a massive amount of aggro so had to balance this) to do massive damage and inflict status effects
-tons of mobility skills like placing jumpads that entire team could use so could mount flying monsters
-all skills have invulnerability frames so have to block via timing attacks can't just hold a block button

>a shitty MMO dies
And nothing of value was lost

This pretty much, the very core of combat for the different classes was basically just improved DD but its brought down by the stat system and everything else being shit. Also fuck that rage/stamina mechanic for bosses it was stupid, not saying its bad to add more complexity to boss fights but I really hate the way they went about it.

O GOD PLEASE LET ITSUNO WORK WITH MH TEAM

maybe I would've put money into it if IT WASN'T FUCKING JP ONLY LIKE THOSE ZIONEST NATIONALISTIC CUNTS DECIDED TO MAKE IT

Attached: 1442677817993.jpg (500x395, 14K)

it was at full ch@n, they even a guild there

>What Itsuno is working on
Nigga what the fuck do you think he's working on? The higher ups approached him saying he could make either DD2 or DMC5, guess what he just finished working on

>game died before coming to the west
All I know is despair.

They took out the strider so it was pretty much impossible to enjoy it.

Good. It was garbage and should've never been made.

Make an actual DD game for fuck's sake.

Fuck.
I need to finish third season.

Sounds obnoxious, hopefully none of that pollutes DD2

the dagger class in DDON is way more fun than any class that can use daggers in the original

Meh. It was pretty shit and lacked most of what made DA so great.

Now, when will they say something about DD2?
They said some announcement was coming today.

>Did Yea Forums try it out at one point?
Sure.

Decent-ish attempt at translating the combat to an "MMO", better than Vindictus, but utterly bland and hollow otherwise. All around selling the MTX systems, like most modern MMOs. You didn't miss anything. DD2 is what you're after.
It's what we're all after.

It was pretty decent but it suffered from dying unpopular MMO syndrome where the developers shower everyone in gold and items and stupid gacha lotteries to try to keep them from quitting.
The new classes were a ton of fun and I like that they gave strider a grappling hook, but they also gutted the sorcerer and removed Mystic Knight.

ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME I WAS JUST DOWNLOADING THIS SHIT TOADY TO PLAY IT WHY

Woah, is Frontier dying?

They announced it two weeks ago, right before the 12th anniversary and after leaving players without any news for three months straight.

cog-members.mhf-z.jp/sp/news/13980.html

Played from the beginning til level 100 all classes. Feels bad

Just play Assassin. It's fun as shit.
Four weapon types, parries, bombs, best STR growth, everything you'd ever need.

Mystic Knight uses maces and the Warrior has a couple of greathammers.

They're working on a DD sequel plus a collaboration with MHW: Iceborne.

>MHW
I'm fine with collabs but I really hope nothing of MH ever poisons DD. Tried MHW, the combat was the most boring clunky shit I've ever played. Swinging anything but the smallest weapons was basically like Arc of Deliverance in DD except with none of the payoff and satisfaction for actually hitting.

It's gonna be a monster from DD appearing in MHW same as Behemoth from FFXIV and Leshen from Witcher III.

b-but vergil dlc...

DD will NEVER EVER get a sequel. It hurts to say but I've accepted it.

Screencap this post.
