it was a 10/10 adventure with a 0/10 low effort deus ex (literally) ending that came out of nowhere and invalidated all the plot points that were raised during the story, and then the story itself. basically the whole Ys universe is apparently a dream of the goddess Maia, you beat the shit out of the last boss forcing her to wake up and the world disappears, but she says "ok you did pretty well so i'll just remake the world for you". but wait since i'm a giant bitch i'll delete literally everything except for your era, so there's no past now and everyone that was part of it isn't just dead but never existed in the first place. also she makes dana, who after witnessing her people die slowly to a fallout winter, and swore to stop the lacrimosa, to oversee the lacrimosa forever. so not only does the heroine fail, she is cucked eternally by having her face rubbed into it forever
basically, instead of a victorious feeling you should get after an epic adventure, you just kinda go "wut?". it's the contrast between the actual game that seems to be leading up to something and the ending which is probably the lowest effort piece of shit i've ever seen that makes it unbearable for me.
