Nope, its not happening with 7.
They're too busy with the DLC side missions and have indicated they are already doing pre-production for AC8.

I think it makes sense. They've already got all the assets such as the aircraft modelled in UE4, they've got the technical stuff down, they just need to concentrate on a good campaign mode and add some more aircraft. I heard that Chengdu offered to let PA license the J-20, and Kono is visiting the BAE research installation at Warton, which probably means the Tempest might make an appearance in 8.

I think Ace Combat VR will be a standalone thing separate from the main franchise. Since 7's VR got a pretty good reception I think we'll see more of it in the future.

It clearly suffered from multiple rewrites and plot threads/missions/cutscenes being outright dropped or recut at the last moment before going gold but it remains a very fun game. Arguably the least coherent of them, though.

i don't think the individual plot points were messy, just the way they were strung together left a disconnect between what happens next and certain details kind of just being left behind with no resolution i.e. the drone conspiracy, full band, etc

Spare Squadron missions were the best IMO. They should have kept you in there. Trigger constantly going above and beyond to redeem himself while also turning the crew into super legends.

its actually pretty funny, kono is a genuine fan of call of duty, he posted an excited tweet when modern warfare 2019 got announced. people always make it out to be something bamco forced on PA when it turns out kono just thought it would be cool.
if there's any game to ramp up the ambition, it would be AC8.
they've got bamco convinced there's still decent money to be made, they know the engine, they've got all the series staple airplanes modelled and audio recorded.

Your situational awareness is way better in VR, even if you have to deal with the cockpit canopy and aircraft body blocking your visibility, the simple ability of moving your head independently of the aircraft without dealing with the stiff, janky gamepad controls is amazing.

Ace Combat is arcade, not simulator. I play War Thunder, and Ace Combat has more dumbed down controls by comparison. At least, in my opinion.

Nowhere near sim levels of complexity.
Trigger isn't a merc, and the overall theme in 7 of automation vs manned aircraft is more Plus than "GA pilot gets tricked into merc squad by his BFF so he can get cucked"

It was like an anime that was planned to have 24 episodes, only for it to get cut to just 12.

I don't think Trigger was suppose to leave the Spare at first, the plot was constantly rewritten.

It would have been better if Trigger actually did murder Harling (perhaps accidentally) and had to undergo genuine redemption.
