Never played Splatoon, but here goes.
>Splatoon takes place on a post-post apocalyptic Earth after humanity fucked it up so bad that everything flooded and they had to jump ship to a whole new planet to fuck up. Over time the remaining aquatic life evolved and grew sentience, eventually adopting some of the culture they could glean from remaining artifacts left over by the mysterious previous inhabitants of the world.
