But I am playing JRPGs, OP.

I don't like japanese games in general

I'm playing Chrono Trigger and FFXIV, but my face hurts too much to focus on either.

i am

I am playing Mario Kart 8

Because I working on finishing a CRPG series I started over 20 years ago.

What happened to your face?

Because I'm sinking Allied merchant vessels.

Thanks for posting FFT specifically, I want to try that one out.

I wish JRPG was as focused on the RPG as it was on the J
At this point you could call anime half life 2 a JRPG because it has a linear story and gameplay

>SH3 without GWX

Nah its still good but I helped make that mod so Im just shilling a bit. I hope you have fun user.

Go play a tabletop

What you implying son? I love mario kart.

We had this thread yesterday so I'll repeat my answer
Because the game-play is monotonous in nearly every JRPG with barely just enough story and world building to keep me interested

I'm playing Chaos World right now, it's kinda boring but I like the music

Because I'm playing a CRPG right now.
I need more dwarves.

Im really tired of "Hero saves the world with a band of friends" stories.

Let me guess your only jrpgs are final fantasy and pokemon

I planned to, but simply getting the game to run in 1080p resolution was a decidedly inconvenient process. I might go back and mod it later, but I generally play games vanilla for the first time through anyway.

just started on dq4 on ds. just hammering that a button currently

Haha no...yes well only Pokémon.

I have too fucking many to play

agrias is best girl

I just finished Chrono Cross. I think I hate JRPG's now.

Because they are boring.

This. Why are RPGs afraid of smaller scale or more personal stories?

Atelier is literally what you want

arguable you could slap "the game-play is monotonous" arbitrarily onto almost any game
it's not really a good arguement
you could say "it's not the kind of monotonous gameplay I like" instead and be more realistic

Of course not. The only FF I played, despite owning like 5 of them, was Crystal Chronicles: Echoes of time (was pretty good)
And Pokemon is so watered down and streamlined at this point that not even I can get into it.

I've tried Atelier Rorona, The Last Remnant, and Agarest: Generations of War to name a few and they all felt like a monotonous fucking chore.

Post suggestions then.

Someday.

I'm a wage slave with no time

because then you have "protagonist dick sucking" syndrome, where the entire gameworld sucks a single characters dick to do everything for them
this comes up significantly more in wrpg then jrpg because of character creation paper dolls

Gimme some jrpgs with nice sprites, already done CT and FF stuff

Breath of Fire IV.

Recommend me some jrpgs without anime/moe.

I knew I should have listed more games I've already played

Valkyrie profile

Radiant Historia

Disgaea 1 was fun though despite the repetitive gameplay. I feel as though the charm and cheese carried me through it though since towards the end I just ass-blasted through levels with Laharl alone because I didn't want to grind the levels for the others.
If I hadn't had to gain over a thousand more levels to do the end game content I might have kept at it.

Attached: DimPoisedCollardlizard-max-1mb.gif (300x169, 844K)

I'm about to take a nap

I just finished playing Tales of Vesperisa and hated most of it. Not even going to do NG+ or post game

If cute anime girls/japanese culture bother you your selection of jrpgs becomes very small

Look at more games then, there are thousands of JRPGs, Radiant Historia might interest you.

Monster Hunter
Dragon's Dogma
Bloodborne

Agrias you dumb bitch I'm playing a JRPG you were in last expansion, except it's far more kino than you were

Care to define slightly more on your personal definition of "anime"?
Do you specify the art style or also include "anime" plots?
For instance chrono trigger has an anime art style but the time travel plot doesn't really come across as specifically "anime" at least to me

If you like charm and cheese and don't like monotonous gameplay you could try some of the tales franchise out
The battles are usually very quick, plus you can play any character you want out of the party if you don't like the protagonist's fighting style and there's a lot of charm to be had

I took the train home for work instead.
Scratches the same itch, right down to the annoying crossdressers.

Anime plots, some nonsense things, harem, girls doing cute things, etc.

But I am OP

Attached: Tressa.Colozone.full.2364880.png (1617x2287, 1.81M)

Also i like Final Fantasy and even Dragon Quest games.

>don't like Anime plots, some nonsense things, harem, girls doing cute things, etc.
>likes dragon quest and final fantasy
Have you considered that you might be a hypocrite?

valkyrie profile. a game based in norse mythology where you recruit dead people to help save asgard from destruction
the art style is not cute, the story does not get cute, and if you find any members of your party not to your liking, rest assured that pretty much all of them make absolutely no story appearances outside of their introduction.
put up with the 1 anime cutscene the game has, only visible in one of its 3 endings, and youll be fine.

Im playing octopath, also when do I get secondary classes

There's clearly a spectrum here. FF really isn't in the same grade as turboweeb shit like Xenoblade 2.

What the fuck is wrong with you.

>I like it so it doesn't count
Every single time

Then he should have just said he doesn't like turbo weeb jrpg's

Anime = Anime tropes, anime writing, anime stories.

Vagrant Story is not anime for instance. Neither is Shin Megami Tensei.

hope not. just finished this game and wanted to share it

SMT kinda is sometimes, but it's not nonstop anime bullshit. Depends on the game really

Because it's not time to sleep yet.

The series that is well known to almost always take place in tokyo with japanese teenagers is not anime?
Come on

Vagrant Story has a shitload of anime tropes.
Shin Megami Tensei is literally a Devilman fanfic.

DQ XI is so fucking boring I can't bring myself to play more of it

Weeb pretends everything is anime because he's so utterly immersed and sheltered himself in anime. What a surprise

Because I'm working on Hand of Fate 2.

>suddenly, instant fucking St. Tala's Day, get Fame blessings, suddenly faceroll through it while also finishing the Clan Eyebright chain

I'm probably still gonna fuck around some more before I seriously try beating The Moon, which I haven't either for Silver or Gold tokens.

You have good taste man. VP is an amazing game.

I'm sick of mediocre, excessively long JRPGs. If you have nothing interesting to say, don't make me grind for 40+ hours to pretend you have an over-arching plot of any kind. Do you thing in 15 hours and be done with your story already.

Attached: 1561324858396.jpg (1200x1799, 104K)

Because they're tedious to play and aren't RPGs.

Playing Xenoblade Chronicles X. Just got my first skell and it's one of the best moments I had in games ever.

I might be wrong on my history of this subject, but aren't jrpg's traditionally long because way back in the day gamers in japan would buy a game, beat it in one sitting and then return it to the store for a full refund?
So the developer's made it so that the games couldn't be beaten in one sitting to try to prevent that and it just sort of stuck?
And c'mon, don't pretend the west doesn't have the exact same problem with sandbox games being chock full of useless crap on 90% of the map that adds nothing to the game

Download fix version.

You're not wrong that RPGs of the day had padding, but they also at least tried to put up a full story. Lack of features and amenities back then was excusable to a certain degree because nobody new better. Today, you have poorly design stuff like Star Ocean 5 where half the experience is walking around largely empty open fields, and filler battles; you only get the auto-travel after you no longer need it.

Too busy playing judgement

recommend me some hidden gems on the snes, I've played all the well known stuff already

I'm playing Chrono Cross with a guide
it's fun but I can't go at it for too long

>with a guide
It kind of takes the fun out of it a bit but I get you
I'm the kind of autist who stubbornly won't read a guide and then near the end game I'll end up looking at one and get frustrated at things I missed

bahamut lagoon

Neither are anime. Shin Megami Tensei =/= Persona. I'm talking about SMT1, 2 and 3 here.
>Vagrant Story has a shitload of anime tropes.
Like what? It's a character going into a dungeon crawl sent to retrieve someone. It's as un-anime as it comes.

Bleach: the third phantom

If you could only play one JRPG in your lifetime, what would it be?

Ah you're one of those types that think if it doesn't have cute girls it isn't anime.

I don't enjoy turn based combat

Front Mission

They're all basically the same. Watch the ones presented this year and you'll know I'm right.

I just don't want to miss star levels or missable gear

Attached: guess I'll die.jpg (1220x1132, 134K)

Play a tales game

Did jrpg's murder your family?
At least some jrpg's got presented this year and not just a parade of pre-rendered garbage representing the western gaming world

Still playing Lightning Returns. It's a lot of fun. I wish the story was better though, I feel like the plot of XIII-2 and XIII-3 were afterthoughts. Listening to some relaxing weeb tunes before winding down like a good lad.

saga frontier 2

Have you been doing roughly 4~6 random battles after every star with every character for the extra stat boosts for min-maxing purposes?

Presented or released? Because Kingdom Hearts 3 and Sekiro are like night and day to each other.

The REAL question here though is...
Razzly or Glenn?

Turned based combat is boring. I'm playing Bloodstained instead. When i'm done with that i'm going to start Gravity Rush 2 then i'll probably get Hollow Knight.

I wish I had more time in the day to play long games like JRPGs, honestly. It's so hard justifying sitting down for 50 hours to play through a single game - even replaying old JRPGs I love is sort of out of the question.

What's with people thinking JRPGs are exclusively turn-based? I've seen these posts a lot on Yea Forums in the past few weeks.

Vesperia the definitive edition came out earlier this year, after what, 10 years for the western release?

ive yet to find a jrpg with good gameplay and interesting characters

Literally dark souls

Beaten all of them, sadly. I enjoyed my time with them, but I don't know if going back and playing them again will be any fun.

It's an easy cop-out to actually having to give an explanation for not liking jrpg's, usually out of some kind of peer pressure caused by being signaled out for being "weird" if they play something not mainstream or "acceptably" niche

Dragons dogma perhaps?
You get to customize both yourself and your follower

Dragons dogma

I actually picked that up yesterday on the steam sale.

Spell casting felt really bad, and the follower was annoying as shit with his quips every 5 seconds. Combined with the "realism" of the world (It looked pretty ugly), I bounced off of it pretty hard. I'll probably give it another try today or tomorrow, but I'm not really looking forward to doing so.

Yieks

>going back and playing them again will be any fun
You could always try others builds, souls games are playable for a long time thanks to this

Parasite eve is pretty fucking neato but doesnt fit much of your criteria
You get to shoot the opposition with guns and magic being secondary

>Parasite eve
Shit man, wasn't that on the PS1? I remember playing that all the way until my CD broke

Is it me or is Yea Forums absolutely shit right now? Like even more than usual?
This is literally the only good thread in the catalogue

Summon Knight a swordcraft story on GBA is pretty good
Kingdom hearts is fun if you can deal with some of the more campy cheese moments
the world ends with you is alright to but not fantasy
None of those have customization really though

Yeah parasite eve 1 and 2 both on ps1
It got another sequel on psp but the first game is alot better than either of the sequels

I just started playing Evenicle.

I genuinely have a light nostalgia for this game now. It was my first next generation game for the PS3, and man I replayed it recently and I can't hate it. The game design itself is so flawed but I just love the music and art direction so much.

youtube.com/watch?v=HYXAF-UyN0Q
youtube.com/watch?v=2FaZQoZf4OY

The soundtrack alone makes my heart soar.

Attached: 05.jpg (2843x1401, 848K)

You've already played some of the best jrpgs but if you list your favorite non-jrpg games I can try to recommend a jrpg for you

Not them, but I'd like to hear some.

Also, for anyone, how are the Atelier games?

you never even played it did you

Because I like creating my own character to be what I want over a designated one when it comes to RPGs, especially tactical ones.

Attached: Checked.png (249x249, 70K)

I've heard this game is mediocre from players and publications. It also doesn't appear to be particularly difficult nor obscure. So I'm guessing it is because the game is genuinely mediocre, and not just "it's too hard so it's bad".

Plus I gave it a go and had to gave up after 20 minutes.

sure but you need to post info about yourself to get a recommendation, otherwise there's no point

No, I'm one of those types that is waiting for you to explain how Vagrant Story "has a shitload of anime tropes" when literally the only NPC interactions throughout the story are during the storyline, and none of it is specifically "anime".

What, are you going to say Japs invented "bad dude was actually good all along"?

Tfw no Ibuki gf

Who can relate?

Attached: Brent Holt.png (1470x325, 21K)

I'm that user

Is this a /shmupg/ post

even if your created character has the personality of floor tiles because they aren't much more then a paper doll?

This is definitely the biggest problem with all these games with massively detailed character customization. Some games do it right, but I hate when the MC is genuinely a silent, mindless vessel.

What games do you feel did it right?

Really, even choosing what stats to increase to a greater degree than others would satisfy me. Hell, even if I couldn't create a custom appearance, being able to have some choice on what my player character can do feels mandatory for me. In the very least, Pokemon achieves this by giving you such a huge variety of members.
iktfb

maybe try ys origin as hugo? no character customization though

I'm not into RPGs in general, really. I've been meaning to emulate the Summon Night games though because of the music and combat system, and I love Dragon's Dogma.

I'm also interested in that Trials of Mana remake for all the replay value of the original plus more action-oriented gameplay. I think I'll give Secret another chance, maybe with that Turbo ROMhack I saw somebody mention.

Attached: 1536533042760.jpg (833x925, 157K)

Games like Mass Effect 1, where your character can be both customized heavily, but also has a personality to him. Really though, on thinking about it that's the only good example I could come up with off the top of my head.

I will be soon enough

Attached: capsule_616x353.jpg (616x353, 327K)

a combination of not wanting to play too many long games and disliking atb

Attached: 697555-torneko_close_up.jpg (480x480, 40K)

I hate anti-immersive games.

you're supposed to put yourself in your character's shoes and have your own thoughts in the real world.

Attached: immersion.png (562x488, 35K)

Have you played any jrpg's that have job systems?

You mean put yourself in the shoes of the writers and what options they give to you to have your own thoughts in the real world... right?

What is a job system?

Dragon's Dogma, if you'd consider that a JRPG over an ARPG.

Basically when a game lets you change your characters jobs on the fly.
old examples would be Final Fantasy 3 and 5
a more recent example would be bravely default
It lets you build your characters however you want

With all this isekai coming out of japan, you'd think there'd be a game market chasing it. I'm sad that isn't the case cause it'd be fun

I assume the term job and class is interchangeable?

I have FF12 in my library at 26 hours played, but holy fuck it's so goddamn boring. I don't really have any JRPG I want to play. Maybe replay Xenogears since it's been a long time?

What are you into?

I want games with good party banter
and would prefer it not be turned based, but that's not a must

Haven't played them but Tales is probably what you're after

JRPGs wildly vary in tone
what kind of fantasy flavors do you like

I was playing FF15 for about two hours today. I plan to play for a few more hours tomorrow (not much of an American Independence Day celebration but whatever). I am loving FF15.

Currently, I am about to watch some anime more specifically either a movie or a few episodes of Record of Lodoss War: Chronicles of the Heroic Knight (sequel to the original series with some retcon for a couple of reintroduced characters).

Does Rune Factory Frontier count?

Made it to the endgame of DQ3, just gonna fight the final boss gauntlet tomorrow. Probably gonna require some grinding since my party are all around the mid-high 30s.

Anime art style disgusts me.

Each has their benefit you ass.

>Anime art style
>Anime has one art style
Fuck off

Have you tried Vagrant Story?

Yup, it's one of the reasons I dislike 12. Ivalice as a setting is pretty dope, even if I prefer TO to FFT. I don't think FF12 leveraged the setting the best it could've.

Don't let the artstyle fool you, this game is amazing

No you fuck off

Fuck off normalfag, anyone who says anime has one style knows nothing

Great taste user

Sure thing, but the last good JRPG I played was Bravely Default. Has anything good even come out since? I tried Octopath and hated it.

Suikoden II

Front Mission 3

romance

give me a jrpg where the tomboy actually fucking wins

P4

Yes, the characters are great and the story is the best of all Tales series

Why would you suggest 3 when it's story is the most anime of the SRPGs?

>The most anime
>Anime style
>Anime plot
Holy shit will you normalfags fuck off already? You know nothing about anime

nocturne

Is the game boy advance game, good?

Yeah, it's pretty interesting

>Kingmaker
Pathfinder?

Atelier Ryza isn't out yet

I got Tales of Berseria a while ago, put about 11 hours into it before losing interest. I liked it, don't remember why I lost interest. Is it worth picking back up and finishing?

Playing valkyria chronicles.

The
>nazi bad
>equality

Is getting tiresome

God I'm sick of this SJW bullshit in games, the Nazis literally didn't cause any harm to anyone

does MHW count?

I don't remember it being very anime except Kazuki's antics. For the record, in super serious 2nd the party steals a fucking plane from a military aircraft carrier to go adventuring in Indiangladesh and the antagonist survives being shot down in his machine like 3 or 4 times.

Nice strawman retard.

>the allies didnt cause any harm to anyone!

>That spacing
>Actual retardation
Yeah head back 16er

I am playing Final Fantasy 7 for the first time. I'm only like 4 or 5 hours in and I can already tell how massively misrepresented this game is by the internet and Advent Children is probably to blame.

Attached: Kamal-Khan-Dinner-Jacket.jpg (1541x713, 235K)

>Being very anime
What the fuck does this even mean

>muh reddit spacing

Two year old reddit meme spewer newfag. Denying that the allies committed any atrocities is literally 50 IQ you fucking stupid nigger. Kill yourself you biased middle schooler.

Yeah fuck off 16er

Wait, scratch that, I was thinking of 4 with Elsa and that terrible conspiracy plot for the European units.

Which game would you recommend me? I want something without much "cute/cringy" shit

Fuck off post 2012 redditor. Reddit spacing is only spewed by you newfags.
i.warosu.org/data/g/img/0710/82/1558659440421.png

The game where you fuck off to whatever normalfag hole you came from

that's it?

>Advent Children is to blame
You mean the fanbase. Nomura literally admitted that Cloud is only so depressed and moody because of how the fanbase was claiming his character was like. Also the reveal during the 2nd disc helps explain things better. KEEP PLAYING AND GET OFF Yea Forums NOW.

>Stopped reddit spacing the second he got called for it
I told you to fuck off 16er

Off the top of my head yeah

I just finished Shadowbringer's story. Now I need to get around to finishing 12 some time, and probably starting Tactics

Attached: 1561402663662.jpg (230x181, 22K)

man, jrpgs are pathetic

>gets linked to old "reddit spacing"
>still continues

You got blown out you subhuman reddit ape. Stop posting and go back you little nigger pissant.

For the last time 16er fuck off, it's clear where you're from

>n-n-n-newfag I'm just going to ignore evidence against my newfag claims

Please die. Revisionist subhuman.

I already know the reveal.

Here's your last (You) 16er, now fuck off

>469114879
>gets proven to be a newfag
>still calls others newfag

No (((You)))

Then why are you complaining about AC when it's literally the fanbase that had that perception of Cloud, in which many revealed they never played the game and only know about the game through cultural zeitgeist.

Different user here. What about a game that is full of cute things all the time?

Atelier games

Attached: 1559675386274.jpg (2000x2782, 1.72M)

Except that i am, currently i'm enjoying Pokémon White to the fullest and thinking to myself why the fuck didn't i play the DS Games before they're so much fun

Attached: daaeb159161017965ed9d49415ef0b01.jpg (568x581, 61K)

Because I figured AC flanderized that aspect of his character.

That said I'm actually really enjoying the game, I'm liking the characters more than the FF6 early party members so far. Edgar and Sabin pretty much carried the first 7 or so hours of that game.

Tomboys are for forced feminization.

My dumbass friends are forcing me to play 7 days to die when I want to be playing KotoR instead.
I'll just have to deal with it for a week and then they'll all stop playing and go back to dota.
fucking niggers they are.

>tfw want to play totori but not a snoyboy
It's a complicated kind of feel. Are the pc games good?

Which game should you start with? Rorona?

I know that feel.

They work fine

Yes

Any censorship with the Steam version of Rorona

I want to play a wuxia style RPG but having problems finding one

None

What's the matter, weabo? Hurt your feelings? Neck yourself, retard. Your waifu will never be real, just pixelated 2D art

>incel seething

I really wanted to like Blue Reflection
Why can't we have a good mahou shoujo game

Why even reply to people who stir shit just to get (you)s

Attached: 1483135677975.jpg (495x700, 189K)

What's the ideal version to go with on this? I'll emulate it if the ports are all shit, but if there's a good version out there, I've been hearing about this game long enough to spend a little on the benefit of a doubt.

Currently playing Final Fantasy Adventure.
I really wish there was a translation of Secret of Mana SNES that wasn't garbage.

Based and dompilled
Tomboys are just boyish brats waiting to be fucked into becoming proper wives and moms

i'm waiting for Final Fantasy X Remastered to go on sale. I haven't for Final Fantasy X since 7 or 8 years. It's one of my favorites.

You're are the one who started with the autistic screeching when I asked for something diferent than the stereotiphycal JRPG

it gets better as it goes on and the party banter is 10/10
you probably got bored because Velvet plays like ass
try Rokurou since his style is more involved

those games are hella boring

yup

For me it's FF 9

>I just beat Kingmaker and now I don't know what to play cause it was so fucking good.
Man, I wish I could enjoy it, but I just don't. I have found no part of this game engaging I guess. I'm sad I pushed myself to play as much as I did and can't return it.

>tfw Tactics Ogre is dead
>tfw FFT is dead
>tfw last of any of both of these series was 8~years ago

A-atleast Let us cling Together psp was kino

Bros I don't know how much longer I can go without a new one
