Think about this >Smash 64: 1999 >Smash Melee: 2001 nothing special in the west but it’s Japanese name was super smash bros deluxe. >Smash Brawl: 2008 Released around the series 10th anniversary, Japanese name was super smash bros x, x is 10 in Roman numerals. >Smash 3ds and wii u: 2014 released around series 15th anniversary we got two versions of the game, each representing handheld and consoles respectively. >Smash ultimate: 2018 released around the series 20th anniversary, all characters were brought back making it the ultimate smash. In japan it is called smash bros special, special edition featuring every character.
If you caught the pattern, since brawl every smash game has been released around an anniversary in the 5’s so if we go by this.
>Next smash: should be released in 2024, series 25th anniversary quarter of a century anniversary, after a game where all characters were brought back, the best thing to do on anniversary like this is to reboot the franchise.
tl;dr the next smash game should be a reboot for the 25th anniversary releasing in around 4 and a half years.
>But ultimate’s DLC isn’t even done yet WHATEVER The next game is a reboot it’s fact and you know it is.
>At least 6 Mario reps >At least 3 DK characters >At least 4 Zelda reps, the 4th one isn’t a second link or sheik >2 Metroid reps >Yoshi will now be repped under mario >At least 3 (possibly only 2) Kirby reps >Just Fox >At least 4 Pokemon reps >Ness might stay but Lucas will probably be cut >Captain Falcon will probably stay because smash made him into the character he is >No retro reps >At least 3 FE reps >Pit and palutena, dark pit along with all echos are cut >A much better wario, a more Wario Land style moveset >Pikmin 4 should have been released by then, it’s protagonist or one of them replaces Olimar > Both Animal Crossing reps return with a new moveset for villager based on new horizons. >Wii fit and little mac are probably cut >5 yes 5 mii types, new ones been Mage and Sword-gunner >Shulk will probably stay as he’s the main protagonist of the original xenoblade, a new rep for this franchise could happen though >inkling and octoling And my personal favourite thing >Only 2 3rd party characters
Not going to bother with newcomers who ever joins, joins.
Discuss away, if the thread heats up I may return tomorrow
Zachary Green
>reboot How, why and who cares if it's a "reboot" or not? Like there's a smash continuity.
Carter Lee
>>A much better wario, a more Wario Land style moveset No way they’d do this. If they did, they’d add in Ashley to balance things out. Warioware is Wario’s big series at this point, and Wario Land hasn’t gotten a new game in over a decade. If anything, he’ll get more WW representation in his moveset since there’s only two moves that reference the series
Thomas Garcia
>""""reboot"""" meme because of too many characters oh god another shitty fan rule >have to make it extremely small to be believable Fucking rosterfags.
Robert Morgan
Wario Land was the series that made Wario the character he is today, money loving, adventure loving, greedy etc.. Ware is crap compared to Land.
Bentley Thomas
>Because of too many characters Sakurai has said not to expect an 80+ roster again, smash’ll never reach 100, as long as Sakurai is director.
Easton Brown
It will be a smash ultimate port with rebalancing and 8 extra characters
Eli Edwards
They can’t port ultimate, porting isn’t as easy as you think, did you realise how much time went into working on every character, they don’t want to waste time working on 65+ characters again.
Isaiah Taylor
What exactly determines a "reboot" for a fighting game franchise? For MK it was restarting the story, all well and good, but Smash doesn't have a story between games. Cutting the roster wouldn't make it a reboot, it would just be another entry.
Isaiah Johnson
Fixing up characters movesets and trying to modernise the franchise.
Camden Myers
What exactly does modernize mean in this case? I could understand the idea that the next game will be a possible reboot, but what exactly defines a reboot for this in specifics need to be explained.
Elijah Jackson
Porting a game over is easier than making one from screatch and completely redesigning how the game works.
Jason Morris
Characters would have moves based on their more recent games, a bit like the fighters pass, the reboot will try to aim for a new audience, modern gamers.
Zachary Garcia
if you fags cared half as much about the actual game as you do with roster faggotry then the series might actually improve
As if they give a shit about that. Land is irrelevant and was already overshadowed by WarioWare when Brawl was all the rage. Not to mention japs see him as le epic fartman
Zachary King
They’ll be years until the next smash, enough time to work on a reboot and enjoy it rather than wasting time porting things over in a shorter amount of time.
Christian Campbell
We do care about the game cocksucker, one of the important things in smash like any fighting game is the roster.
Angel Carter
Nothing you're described is a Reboot OP. You're just describing a more focused sequel that doesnt have a trillion characters again.
Jeremiah Green
Or they'll just have a gimmick, like heroes vs. villains or something.
Camden Thomas
>cutfags THE POWER OF CHRIST COMPELS YOU! THE POWER OF CHRIST COMPELS YOU!
The next Smash Bros. will be something akin to a "Capcom Vs." game, where about 30 Nintendo characters face off against something like, say, 30 anime characters, giving every Goku and Narutofag on Earth what they've been begging for for years.
I just want Sakurai to leave the series to make other shit, he's been stuck making Smash for the past 20 years, just let the guy make other games, Kid Icarus Uprising was good, he should make more stuff like that and pass the Smash torch to somebody else
Tyler Gonzalez
That idea sounds so stupid, please go have sex.
William Cooper
As unique as that sounds, I don’t think it’ll happen, cool idea though.
Levi Lewis
it's only a true reboot if Sakurai isn't involved in any way
Leo Wilson
Well then it won’t be a true hard reboot, maybe a soft one however.
lol do you think Nintendo will let him? Smash is their biggest hype cow after Zelda, and Pokemon is spreading itself thin
Dylan Roberts
>reboot Oh boy I can't wait to pay $5.99 for Captain Falcon as a DLC character after he was purposefully cut from the main roster!
Brandon Hall
Yes. If it was purely first party content You CANNOT and will not get Cloud back. He was a miracle , TWICE, to be in Smash Bros. They say you can catch lightning in a bottle, doing it twice is pure luck, 3 times is bullshit
Landon Rivera
I think the same could apply to most third party franchises, it is why I think we’ll only get 2 next game.
Brayden Lee
Fuck the next game, I want them to squeeze every drop from Ultimate. Make multiple packs if you have to and add more echoes, I want this shit to go beyond any other game.
Jeremiah Young
Dunno about other people, but I honestly will not be buying the next Smash Bros game if its a reboot with a extremely cut down cast. Let me guess, for people who disagree with this, you are going to tell me that I should buy the reboot because its not the characters that matter but the gameplay? Smash Ultimate's gameplay is more casual then Melee's gameplay, so why do I bother to play a more casual game with a lower skill ceiling if the gameplay is inferior? Because of the characters. Because of the cast. So what is a Smash Bros game, more casual then Melee, without the appeal of the cast? Its dead. Its nothing. The entire selling point of Ultimate is in fact the cast. Its listed in the banners. It was listed on advertisements. It was all billboards. It was everywhere. All about the cast. Without an amazing cast, its flaws in its gameplay stick out and become much more obvious.
Also this again sounds like one of those "non-nintendo fan" wish lists that go entirely against what Nintendo tends to focus on. These people seem to not understand Nintendo at all. If you think Nintendo is going to go back to melee level gameplay, they won't, and if you think they will go for a much smaller cast, they won't. If Nintendo needed ten years to basically port Ultimate to the next system, having to redesign all the characters with a different artstyle, even get back all the third parties, everything, to get all the cast to return, and still have even more newcomers, Nintendo would do that in a heartbeat. The Switch currently stands to be their next most successful console, probably getting close to topping the Wii, and definitely going to top the 3DS in sales. Which means little by little, third parties will flock to it as well. Plus they will likely release a Switch Pro version with upgraded technology after they hit around 50 million sales worldwide.
Andrew Watson
The entire Smash customerbase will then say "they cut [insert characters] for these loser newcomers?"
Nicholas Watson
I am surprised, pretty sure cutfags died off after Smash 4 and Ultimate proved them wrong twice in a row.
Angel Wright
>"the third parties will most likely be cut!" Wait for the investor meetings. Wait for the sales reports on the DLC. Wait to see how much further sales go for the video game itself as well. Don't be so sure, think about it, all of these third parties are getting a cut. And the more money Nintendo makes here, the bigger the cut gets. If it ends up very profitable, we may in fact see some of them pre approach Nintendo asking for the same deal again if they make another Smash game. Never know.
Henry Foster
This, Smash was always about the characters, only after Brawl did they try to make it about marketing and pushing recent releases and Ultimate seems to be going back to that notion of characters first. Fuck the gameplay, I want my fun character conclave.
Bentley Turner
this its never gonna happen
Easton Murphy
I've always wondered, what do you guys actually want out of a Smash reboot? All I ever see is "cut two thirds of the cast" and nothing else.
Connor Rogers
This is a fanbase that went into an autistic rage because shit wastes of time like Young Link, Pichu, Lucas, Wolf, and Roy got cut. To the point that the DLC had to be wasted in bringing them back. To the point that the "Ultimate" smash game had to bring back all the clone shits just to appease them.
They would never settle for a reboot with half the cast cut. And forever onward, every single reveal would be nothing but "WTF THEY CUT OUT (character that hasnt been relevant to nintendo in 20 years) BUT THEY'LL ADD (character from extremely popular game i do not play)?!"
Gavin Gray
I'd like to see a more varied moveset for some of the cast, but otherwise a full 3D field could be fun or even some other genres like an RPG.
>And forever onward, every single reveal would be nothing but "WTF THEY CUT OUT This is the case with literally every single other fucking game EVER and it's fucking obnoxious. >New Guilty Gear comes out >"NO BRIDGET NO BUY!!!!"(wouldn't buy it anyway even if they were in) >New Street Fighter comes out >"NO [waifu] NO BUY!!!"(wouldn't buy it anyway even if they were in) The worst is when their waifus get in but they still don't buy the game or they do and don't even fucking play them. Every time Juri comes back she's a waste slot because Juri fags don't play fucking Street Fighter. Even when they spam her in threads it's never her in game model, it's always fan art, so she doesn't even need to be in the game. >"B-But she's low tier!" Tier lists don't matter at your level anyway and she isn't that fucking bad.
John Rivera
Guilty Gear Xrds newcomers unironically sucked beyond fucking ass though which just rubbed salt into the wound that half the original cast was gone.
Robert Reed
I haven't played a TON of old Guilty Gear, but I like the newcomers and there's only like 5 characters that aren't back.
They should be expecting good characters cut for mediocre newcomers, it happens with every fighting game. Even if smash technically isn’t a fighting game,
Alexander Powell
Cutfags have always been around during ultimate hype, especially after E3 last year when sakurai said everyone is here won’t happen again.
Levi Martinez
And if they do, they might neglect them and say that they aren’t good enough for a third party choice in a reboot.
I say ten years from now, it'll happen ONE last time and then you get the reboot when Miyamoto retires and Sakurai's youth is drained completely.
Jaxon Morales
*that it's not entirely impossible My head's not right today.
Robert Allen
>However, I think that “Everyone is here!” is something that won’t be repeated. Anything is possible, of course, so I can’t rule anything out entirely, but I still think this won’t happen again.
He still thinks it won’t happen, everyone is here has about a 5% chance of happening again that’ll be about 2.5% in a decades time.
>For starters, bringing back every fighter drastically increases the cost of development. Merely attempting to do this requires a lot of time, personnel, and money. Even something that looks like a simple port has a huge number of manhours behind it. Moreover, in the case of Smash, we can’t simply create whatever we want. I have to receive approval from the original creators of the characters, and I need to reflect their feedback. If this feedback differs from the direction we’ve taken with a character in Smash, then it’s our job to reconcile this disparity no matter how much time or energy it takes. Contractual agreements and other legal issues can also make development exceedingly difficult. In reality, it was quite a challenge to bring every fighter back, and I barely made it work. Frankly, it almost didn’t happen.
If this doesn’t prove that porting ultimate will be as hard as this, then your head is really fucked up, a reboot would mean less time developing characters and more time including things ultimate could have but didn’t due to so much work going into the fighters,
And yes, I know: from a fan’s perspective, more fighters joining the fray is a given. Regardless of what may happen during development, players assume that characters who appeared in the previous game will automatically come back.
Basically rosterfags, just because their in doesn’t mean their in for life, this applies to at least 60% of the roster imo.
Easton Miller

Ryan Hughes
Which is why the focus should be on Ultimate and not the next game given how low the chances are yet you cutfags keep going on about the next game.
Samuel Johnson
Sakurai also has said that Villager wouldn't be a Smash Bros character because he doesn't have a way to fight, and that Ridley would never work. When Sakurai says something won't happen, that usually means it will happen, just later on down the line eventually.
Xavier Taylor
Sakurai was bound to find a way to make villager work as a fighter and Ridley was fan demand. This time I do believe he is been for real, next game will have major cuts, I will continue to believe this until i’m Proven wrong.
Benjamin Brooks
I'd be totally happy with a reboot if we get better movesets and character choices not forced by wanting to stay the same as the previous games >>Yoshi will now be repped under mario Why the fuck?
>So what is a Smash Bros game, more casual then Melee, So you want Melee 2, yes?
Kevin Allen
Nasty Zoomer, FE was going to be Japan Smash Bros exclusive until Sakurai just settled with leaving them in just to test the waters. Basically throwaway characters akin to Mother characters in 64.
Corrin is a complete shill pick. Lucario is more of a shill pick than Roy was. Fucking PICHU was a shill pick more than Roy, but GF really is to blame of it all.
Isaac Parker
>>""""reboot"""" meme because of too many characters oh god another shitty fan rule It's not a shitty fan rule, Sakurai said not to expect this many in the next game, which makes sense considering that he was killing himself to make this one.
Alexander Morales
He's talking about how Roy's game wasn't even out yet before he was put in Melee
Thomas Price
>banjo gets cut >based roar stays the seethe and cope will be glorious.
Its a fucking party game, whats there to care about? The gameplay? Sakurai cant give a single fuck about that
Adrian Smith
One character vs. the entire lineup. >Want to learn more about X? Go here! The fact that Roy was brought back but not Wolf until now should tell you something.
If this actually happens, I legitimately think I won’t be able to stop laughing for days.
Lincoln Moore
Some people want more characters. Others want Melee 2. And of course there's the ""people"" that want both, but we don't talk about them.
Elijah Gutierrez
People always push patterns like the patternfags they are, and when those get disproven, they never apologize ever. They act like they were not wrong, but the creator went out of his way to prove them wrong or something.
