This is kinda consistent with the weird representation the series gets in other crossovers like Dragon Quest Heroes, Yuji Horii or some other higher up doesn't want the heroes overlapping with each other or some other weird autist thing.
Smash Bros probably just has some giant ass pull and weight that at least got us four playable heroes and the rest making a cameo in the final smash. Some would probably need to cut off a finger to get us the female heroes too.
