Have you ever been to a LAN party, Yea Forums? How was it? What did you play?
Have you ever been to a LAN party, Yea Forums? How was it? What did you play?
I've been to several and they're always great fun. Mostly played these:
Counterstrike
UT2k4 (+ mods like Alien Swarm and Air Buccaneers)
Starcraft
Warcraft 3
Jedi Knight 2
Left 4 Dead 1
Dungeon Siege 1 & 2
Quake and Counterstrike. I killed everyone on quake but sucked in cs. I really hate not rocket jumping on an FPS.
Used to do 3 day LAN events, comfy fun
woops forgot pic
used to play CS, warcraft, enemy territory, armagetron, worms etc
even earlier event
I have no idea how old this image is, probably 2005 or so.
I guess Yea Forums never goes outside
That looks really comfy! Was it just your local group of gamers or...?
Yeah, we all hung out on the same local IRC network and had a £10 entry fee to pay for the hall every other month.
It only happens twice a year now, with work/life getting in the way for a lot of us (late 20s now)
Mustbenice.png
How many still come? Me and a few friends wanna host a lil LAN party but none of us actually did something like that before, we usually play online (early 20s btw)
>Unreal tournament
>AoE 2
>Warcraft 2 and 3
>CS
>Quake
And I would drag my PC back out again if I had to. Shit man.
Dawn of War: Dark Crusade
>cs 1.6
>vanilla wow
>GW2 beta
We used to get about 20 people every other month, now it's down to between 10-15 (some people only go for the saturday etc)
We're actually having one next month with a load of friends we made from the UK, so that should be comfy.
>implying my parents bought me a pc/laptop
>implying I had friends to play with
>implying it is possible to make new friends when you are over 25
Supreme Commander
Just go to Dreamhack and bring your local flag, you'll end the event with more friends than you can handle.
You one of the organizers? If so, got any tips on hosting one?
I heard of LAN parties that turned into drunkfests where people played each other more than the vidya...
Not one of the organizers, but been involved with it for over a decade now. As far as tips go, make sure you have at least one person who knows how to setup a network properly.
>I heard of LAN parties that turned into drunkfests
Jesus christ this is the worst part of the whole thing, eventually we got into a system where we forced everyone into a single MP game, otherwise they'd just get drunk and take eternal smoke breaks.
If you're renting a space for the event make sure people pay on the door or have some other system, collecting cash from people was a nightmare.
>yfw you will never have a lan party with AVGN, Ed Boon, Andy McKee and Geoff Keighley
Been to one of these. Needless to say, it was NUTS
I can smell this image
Hell yeah son.
UT2003, Blur, Killing Floor, Condition Zero, Crysis, and motherfucking Doom.
Damn, miss those days
11 years ago, middle school, Armagetron LAN party in the computer lab.
>otherwise they'd just get drunk
Was considering limiting the booze to beer-only.
>collecting cash from people was a nightmare
Ouch yeah I believe that. Did you guys ever go neg when people would come and then smokebomb when it came time to pay?
>dungeon siege 2
ma' nigga
This shit sounds incredibly comfy
avp2
>Did you guys ever go neg when people would come and then smokebomb when it came time to pay?
Nah, admins and regulars normally just paid out of pocket if people flaked
IIRC it used to cost the admins a couple of hundred quid a year even if everyone paid on time, they just enjoyed doing it.
The only restrictions we had was no drinking before sundown and nothing stronger than weed (we often had underage people joining for the daylight periods)
around 2003/4. about 20 kids and we would get endless pizza and pop, and mostly play counter strike/day of defeat
someones dad would even bring a big tv and we'd set up a console. pretty comfy. i was friends with a couple boy scouts and they would invite me. adults arranged it at the lodge and provided the food and kinda lazily chaperoned.
I lied, this is the oldest image I have of a LAN I attended
man I miss day of defeat
>Ut2k4
>Not superior ut99
Really?
>beige cases with phat monitors
Ah yes, the best timeline
Hey user, you're late, we almost started without you!
what is wrong with that guys legs
only 3 of those are me tho
We played UT99 but appart from that, ON POINT! 100% around my age.
I don't have pics from that era but we (group of around 6 to 8) used to love doing these as a sort of mini parties of nerdiness.
Regulars were
Cs 1.6
Warcraft 3
Dungeon Siege
Worms
Stronghold Crusader
Lineage 2 back when it was a thing
Some sort of shit game where we just clubbed each other to death, can't remember the name.
Never went to a large scale one though and I imagine the atmosphere is greatly different but I have been to long nights of gaming which basically turned into exactly that, a lan party.
GREAT TIMES!
We should bring this back as a generation thing, damn.
Realised it doesn't make sense afterwards, long nights of gaming in internet cafes*
