How do you feel about forced race and gender diversity in modern games?
I personally feel very uncomfortable about it. It gives me the eerie feeling that the developer isn't trying to just give me a fun play experience, and that they have ulterior motives to their business.
The problem isn't necessarily that I have to look at a brown person or a female in a game, but more with the fact that the motives behind the diversity agenda are unclear.

This trend of being more inclusive has been present in media for a while, but games were a very niche medium so no one really cared.
As games became more popular, the scope of the people who played them increased as well and so you start to have more socially conscious types playing games. These are he same types of people who criticized TV shows and movies and books and music for a lack of diversity. Now there’s some intersection between gamers and the socially conscious so you inevitably get some complaints.

That’s unironically true though because Japs have no commercial or PR benefit for including POC or LGBTQ representation or strong female characters since the Japanese games industry has basically resolved itself to being for Japanese men. There’s no ulterior motive and you can see that in the designs.
In the west, at least in the AAA scene, representation has come to be synonymous with cheap token characters to get good PR and maybe some extra sales because nearly every AAA game that practices it is lacking or just bad.
