It's disappointing really, they put a lot of effort into the story scenes but won't go that extra step to let your character take the lead in a few key scenes.

You can gauge your DPS a bit by looking at aggro, as it's purely damage driven now for DPS. (No diversion/other enmity reducing tools).
In FF games you start out moving from area to area, and then you quickly go through most of the map and end up going back and forth through the map, until you unlock another world and then go back and forth again (you may discover a third world and go back and forth once again). That’s literally FF14, especially with the expansions.

14 could most certainly function as a singleplayer game. it would require slight rewrites, but you already have a cast of characters to serve as companions (Scions, Braves, and Job Teachers/NPCs). Dungeons and Trials would be reworked a bit, but the overall story can work just fine
I use them for self improvement, especially when it comes to learning a new class. The problem is when people get really obsessive over them and start gating players who have lower numbers, which then brings experiences like where they are so anal about their parse that they ruin fights.
I think this is why the devs have a don't ask don't tell policy when it comes to the trackers. There is a good use for trackers but supporting them would increase the toxicity in the end game and scare players interested in raiding from even getting their feet wet.

You can earn tomestones of poetics by doing Level 50 dungeons and buy Ironworks gear with it, as well as upgrade materials. Take all that to Gerolt in the South Shroud and I think it comes to either i120 or i130, which will keep you geared until like the third or fourth dungeon in HW.

There's nothing wrong with having a SAM in your raid, especially now that selfish DPS are better than in stormblood. The problem is that BLMs never do mechanics, their class design makes them the worst class in the game for doing mechanics. Sure, you can have a great BLM that lines up their teleport and instant casts with every mechanic, but it's requiring some one to know the entire fight like the back of their hand. Better to just never raid with a BLM.

Those clothings aren’t very medieval either, they just fit within a medieval-inspired setting because of jrpg logic and you can see far more medieval clothing in the NPCs of 14. Everyone dresses in a medieval fashion in 14, because aside from the occasional 19th century clothing and miqote mini-skirts, it’s the only clothing available in Eorzea
Nah, you can do Binding Coil whenever. If you do it before a certain point in the story you can get an extra line of dialogue or two with a certain character as well.

DPS for your first class, otherwise you'll risk dying from boredom during the MSQ. I did Thaumaturge/Black Mage my first time around and it was a lot of fun. I hear Archer/Bard is a lot of fun too.

Niflheim always had advanced magitek, giant mech airships, guns and other firearms, they were always a technology empire that also was modern society but dressed in old fashioned medieval armour alongside their mechs and guns, they also had trucks too, meaning niflheim had automotive vehicles meaning they had modern society, their dress is the same reason they still dress that way, same reason tenebrae still does

I don't play any melee classes so I don't have much experience. I do know that Rogue/Ninja is currently the hotness for melee dps, but that gets unlocked at level 10 so you'll have to play something else until you reach that point.

All the DPS jobs are pretty good this expansion. Some are more supportier than others, some are pure damage. Depends what you prefer.
