Well, guess I can't argue with anyone's intangible head-canon of how "alive" or "dead" a video game series is based on subjective and ill-defined parameters, and can only use objective things like hard sales numbers, so you got me there.

I stopped playing Pokemon in Gen V, but they have a right to be going nuts. Game Freak doesn't have the balls to do a hard reboot. But they also don't want to put in the work to keep all the Pokemon and skills from the past games, showing what we've always known. They're extremely lazy and bad programmers.

I personally think they should just hard reset the series. But most fans would have the same reaction to that as they're having to what's going on right now. So what's the most stupid about all this is, Game Freak could have just done the same thing as every previous game. Just make a new region with all the same formulaic shit every previous game has done. Hire about 100 extra artists and programmers to crank out the necessary Pokemon animations. And the fans would lap it up like mindless sheep. Game Freak took the easiest and most repetitive formula in all of gaming, which their fanbase would never get tired of, and found a way to screw it up. They deserve the backlash.

If people think SnS should be immune to criticism because of one person who was probably a falseflag doing something stupid, they're even more retarded than the natdex fags

It's honestly really simple. Make one base game with a new region and only the 150 Pokemon for that region. Then release expansion regions to that game. A year after the base game comes out, release the Kanto region, with all the gyms, Pokemon locations found in the original game. A year later, release Jouto, with all it's Pokemon, gyms and areas to explore. Another year later, release Hoenn with all it's content. Repeat until Nintendo releases their next console.

Then you release a new Pokemon game with a new region/Pokemon on the new console. And continue releasing expansion regions to that game. Each year, adding another region that wasn't featured on the previous console. Within 2 console generations, you'll have all the regions and Pokemon finished.

Then you hard reboot the series with the next console and do it all over. This means every 2-3 generations, you get to make major upgrades to the combat engine and graphics, while also eventually getting all the Pokemon and regions within one game. While also having the consistency of only having one game engine. You can release content faster since you're not making stand alone games. And fans will buy every region expansion to get the "complete" game, even if they're the full $40-$60 price.

But Game Freak are incompetent so they'll never do this.

Huh, yeah that's about the exact same as me. I've seen enough franchises I loved go down the tubes to have gotten used to the steps of dealing with it by now. And moon did have some charm to it, and an ok setting I guess despite being primitive. But it was also part of the "letting go" stage for me, where it went from being something I just always wanted to get and felt really into and turned into "just another vidya" I could step back from. XY justified that decision.

I guess I kind of just hope it takes a good long hiatus and maybe can get it back together with something ambitious. I don't feel like the franchise is 100% driven into the ground yet. If it took 4 years off and they did something really good that pushed the limits I'd absolutely give it another look. But I don't think they will, I think they're going to milk it for every last penny they can until it's totally wrung out forever.

They wouldn't have this problem if they stuck with sprites.

I don’t think anyone knows whose getting cut and who isn’t. For all we know they could be cutting some great designs and leaving in really bad designs. The Pokémon being included will be chosen based on how well they fit into the region and story, so a lot of people are worried their favorites won’t make the cut.
Also, GameFreak’s excuse of “we’re cutting Pokemon to focus on creating quality animations” doesn’t hold up at all.

I enjoyed it, especially the difficulty increase compared to the mind numbingly easy xy and oras, and liked the new pokemon, and wasn't even that bothered by cutscenes, but the postgame felt kind of boring and they're really wasn't enough changes between sun adn moon and the ultra to warrant a purchase.
A lot of people like to say that's just how the old third versions were, but I think it's fair to consider minimal update third versions outdated considering the state of dlcs and much more advanced hardware nowadays.
And pretty much everything I saw about lgpe was disheartening, and sword and shield is looking to be much the same.

I think S/S look good, but I say that as a day-one Pokemon fan with realistic expectations of GameFreak. Graphics have never bothered me, I remember people saying "WHY DO PEOPLE PLAY GAMEBOYS THE GRAPHICS ARE SO BAD" so nothing much has really changed there. Sure it'd be nice if it looked like Xenoblade but I'm not losing sleep over it.

The national dex thing is disappointing because we already know the same models from X/Y are being used and said models were developed between Gen V and Gen VI anyway so I don't see why there suddenly isn't enough time as though its some impossible painstaking effort.

S/S thankfully look a lot less 'kiddie' than Gen 7 and judging by the demo, the treehouse footage and E3 the region doesn't seem to have loading screens everywhere, things look less railroady than before. The region looks fresh and interesting and the wild area has potential.

The problem is that for most of their life, GF have developed for small, limited-hardware consoles. Since the 3DS they've had to play catch-up in a big way and the direction of the games has been scattered, I think it'll take them a few main-series home console games to get it right but they will fall into the groove again and go back to how they used to be afterwards.

ORAS i have a chance since i liked Hoenn, but it turned out to double down on the aspects of XY i disliked with the story focus, Cutscenes out the ass and shit like the Delta Episode, and that is not going into the fucking Frontier taunt, i loved the Frontier.

SM was garbage and was the last straw when i realized i was genuinely forcing myself through it on my first fucking play through, and the Ultras were pure money grubbing recycling that committed the unspeakable sin of adding new Pokémon to the "Third Version", at least fucking held back event mons could still be traded to the "superflous" versions before that, so i skipped them.

Let's Go i got less because it was Pokémon game and more because everyone was bitching about it and i really wanted to see what it was about and i was sick with the flu when it released, so i needed SOMETHING i could play and distract myself from the pain between puking my guts out and passing out, guess what easy newly released game fit the bill, furthermore my Nephew was interested in trying it so i got it for when i was gonna babysit him for about a week, he loved it.

Pokemon has been going downhill since B2/W2. X/Y were okay, but not as good as Gen 5. Gen 6 was pretty retarded, and USUM was the icing on that cake. I didn't even buy the Let's Go games because I finally wanted to "speak with my wallet" like so many people say to do. Now, the more info I see about Gen 8 and Masuda's comments about fan reactions, the more I realize this will probably be the first mainline game I don't buy. I've been playing since '98 consistently...so this is just weird for me to be thinking this way.

At least I can fall back on romhacks and fan games though. A friend of mine bought me a romhack cart to play on my GBA SP when I said I wouldn't get the LG games, and it was really fun.

USUM sucked because it added so little to the original games and was basically a cash grab. Basically everything in it could have be 5 dollar DLC, but Gamefreak chose to release it as its own game and charge full price for it. Also, gen 7 in general wasn't all that good to begin with, so all the insults USUM brought along with it just rubbed people the wrong way.

Black/White was what a Pokemon reboot should have been. The story was much more mature (by Pokemon standards), the characters were (mostly) likable, it was more challenging than any Pokemon game before it, they added a ton of new pokemon, and basically forced you to use them until post game. B2/W2 actually ADDED to the original games, they were sequels, and offered difficulty settings in post game. Gen 5 was far from perfect, but it was a step in the right direction.

Then came Gen 6 and it basically got rid of ALL those steps and went backwards...leading to where we are today.

No, depth means this. And even then, no one expects Pokemon to have depth in its story. In fact, the biggest problem in B/W is the endless cutscenes and focus on story. Every time you leave a town, there's a cutscene. Every time you enter a new area, a cutscene. Random legendaries just stop you in the middle of the road and fight, all to get another cutscene in. And none of these events are even "mature" at all. It's the same shit you get in other Pokemon games, just in a cutscene rather than NPC interaction.

It seems like it could be at the beginning, but then it just devolves into "stop the old evil bad guy from taking over the world." That's my perspective exactly. As I said, I don't agree with those people, but I see their view. I didn't like B/W because only having access to the 150 Gen V Pokemon felt silly. In a Pokemon world it doesn't make sense that there are walled-garden regions where only one handful of Pokemon exist. Some people preferred that though, they want each game to be like an individual world or something.

I'm not entirely sure about this. Parents bought kids Pokemon games during the Gen 1-7 days because Pokemon was on a cheap (by comparison) handheld, and most kids had these durable handhelds they'd toss around and throw in their booksacks and stuff.

The Switch isn't your typical handheld, and it's not something most parents would buy for their little kids like they would a DS or even a 3DS. I have 2 young kids, and I'd never buy them a switch. But they do have 3DS's that have held up. I work in education, and the only students I've seen with a Switch are a handful of high school kids. I've yet to see an elementary or even middle school student with a Switch.

I'm not sure Gamefreak will be reaching the kid audience they're aiming for. LGPE was only somewhat successful because it played on the Kanto nostalgia and pandered to the Go crowd; young adults who can actually afford and take care of a Switch. I have to wonder how much Gen 8 is appealing to that crowd.

SM, though I did skip ORAS too. SM was the first time I felt like I didn't get my money's worth. At least XY still had fancy new graphics and wonder trade to make it feel fresh despite being a bad game, but SM didn't improve enough on any of that.

No, in spite of what Yea Forums might be memeing, there hasn't been in decline in sales of new Pokemon games. Every generation launched with 15 to 17 million sales ever since Ruby and Sapphire on the old Gameboy Advance. Remakes sell less, third versions even less.
LGBT sold 10 million copies, which is about par the course for a remake. It's safe to assume in the long run, the trend will not be broken, even though Shart and Shit is a rehash of SM in HD, but with cut Pokemon and for 60 dollars instead of 40.

Can't argue with this. They're releasing a game with damn near every feature from previous games cut while adding a shitty "big pokemon" gimmick. Switch has paid online, so the online content isn't technically free anymore. Also, you have to have both Pokemon Bank and Pokemon Home paid for in order to utilize the service. The graphics are shit, and it's VERY apparently since 3rd party devs have been making graphical miracles on the switch for almost 3 years now. Finally, they're cutting Pokemon...in a Pokemon game.

If sales don't suffer because of this, there's no hope for the fan base. For the life of me, I can't see how fans can defend these decisions or these games at this point.
