Before they pulled the plug, the old GoW website had an active community that submitted fan art, fan fiction, character and game synopsis, and theories. The game also had comics and novel spinoffs that were popular. A good part of the base liked the story and characters in addition to being a good shooter.
I think people care more about her connection to Queen Myrrah than Kait herself. It was the one major plot line they never really addressed in the main series. Who was the Queen? Why did she look human? How did this human looking woman become leader of a sub terrain monster race? Was she the result of secret COG experiments?
The game always had sad and traumatic moments and showcased the griefs that endless war brought. Dom's wife, Cole's PTSD, a bunch of suicides. If you dont give a shit about the story, it's not a big loss to ignore it in favor of Horde mode and MP.
