Only disgaea I've played was d1 and I only played story battles except that one time you have to do the item world at the start. It was boring as fuck and required minimal strategy. Does this mean that the later games are even worse?

I beat 3 of them and I still don't understand what I did the whole time. I just grinded in an item world 2-3 times before every mission without understanding how to min max anything in the game. still fun though too bad theyre going under

I got 5 on the Switch, and have been loving it. I heard a lot of people say they didn't like 3 much, so I picked up the vita version and have been playing that one more now. I notice a couple of things that I guess I'd call worse, but it's largely still quite enjoyable for me. I like how ridiculously hammy the cast is. Why do most people dislike that one?

I'll be as real as possible with you. PS3 and NISA killed NIS. Disgaea 3 was delayed from being a PS2 release and instead was released on the PS3, before most people were willing to buy the overpriced paperweight. Disgaea D2 was then released with a bug which caused PS3s to seize up and overheat (had to pull out the cord to stop it). Which further scared people away from the series on PS3. NIS being a Japanese company, they somehow thought the director was at fault (Disgaea 3 and D2 were pretty terrible storywise) and put the blame solely on him. He eventually left after Disgaea 4, but the company needed to move on in order to make money. They completed Disgaea 5 with a patchwork of ideas from previous games, then continued to release failure after failure. Trying to strike it rich off gatcha money, they funded a mobile game made by a Sony subsidiary. That subsidiary severely mismanaged money, and offered an incomplete wreck of a game. NIS demanded they go back and finish it, but by that point, they ran out of money to pay employees.

Ultimately it seems like just an unfortunate situation of incompetent hacks tripping over each other leading to inevitable ruin.

But my simple point still stands; let people enjoy these games on Switch.
They aren't hurting the original fanbase, they ARE the new "legit" fanbase, because all the weebs are on the Switch now.
Maybe, possibly, we might see a reinassance of similiar games in spirit done by a smaller company someday, and especially if it's gonna be an indie weeb title, it's home will, without the shadow of a doubt, be the Switch.
