This has to be one of the most retarded story of all time, it builds up for 15 chapters just to go fucking spaghetti in 2 hours of gameplay, Neptunia has a better plot and characters than this piece of shit right here, fuck you for suggesting this game to me.
Valkyria Chronicles 4
They were right not nuking the capital.
Fuck off imp shill, the Valkyria arc was anticlimatic shit, the two lolis just fucking died right there, no details whatsoever on where they came from, Forseti/Kai? Boom, dead, could have accomplished the same without being a shitty traitor, the mission? Gone, Minerva tried to wake them up but then got defeated by the power of friendship and happiness, what the fuck did i literally just watch.
Honestly the Valkyria arc is the weakest part of these 4 games, im happier they didnt play it up that much this game.
The question of commiting mass genocide or not was the best part of the story.
DELETE THIS
The whole underlying Valkiria plot sets up the United States as the next big bad in the sequel.
Prepare to play as a honoraburu samurai defending your land against americ- I mean vinlandian aggressors in VC5: War of the Pacific.
JUST PULL THE FUCKING LEVER YOU BITCH, YOU'RE ONLY GOOD FOR GETTING PANTYSHOTS
Don't
Say what you want about story but I could take a fat shit that plays better than Neptunia.
Should I get VC 1 or 4 on switch?
How is the gameplay though?
>Minerva tried to wake them up but then got defeated by the power of friendship and happiness
The empire agreed to a ceasefire, they could've been seen as war criminals if they nuked the capital to force the empire to surrender instead. And the nuke was their friend.
4
For some god-forsaken reason, VC4 runs better than 1 on Switch. 1 is better played in handheld mode since its framerate is way more stable than it is in docked mode, while 4 is fine in either mode. Both are good games, but I personally like 4 better and see it as an improvement over 1 in all aspects.
The dilemma over nuking the capital and committing genocide against the empire was actually good, unlike the childish and hamfisted "FALDIO WAS WRONG" plot in 1.
>I personally like 4 better and see it as an improvement over 1 in all aspects.
The thing is, in most aspects 4 isn't an improvement over 1, it is in fact, literally identical to 1 in most aspects. But it does improve over it in a few. Not that it's a bad game, but you'd think it'd evolve a bit more after a whole decade.
Will never happen because 4 bombed so spectacularly that the franchise is dead for good and Sega choose to try their luck with Sakura Wars instead.
Does VC1 have a more old school feel to it? I prefer playing more Snes or PS1 than more modern games and all I know about VC1 was it's unique battle system. Is VC4 the same feel but with quality of life mechanics?
>It's the same game as its predecessor
>"Fucking unoriginal hacks"
>It's different from its predecessor
>"Fucking hacks if ain't broken won't fix it"
Eat shit, user. There is no way pleasing someone like you.
You're right, VC4 really makes more sense if you pretend it's called VC2 instead and it doesn't really justify being the third sequel coming out ten years later on the following generation hardware, but to someone starting fresh on the series now, 4 would just look like a direct improvement over 1.
No. It plays and feels like a modern series.
Don't bother with either of them.
>muh story
Videogame.
They're the same to the point they share most animations and you could see 4 as an elaborate DLC for 1 if you really wanted. They don't feel any different to play, so don't worry about that.
It's not actually a sequel, it takes place at the same time VC1 does. Only the ending when the war ends isn't covered in VC1.
From a gameplay perspective, 4 is leagues better than 1 and you don't need to play 1 to make sense of the plot of 4.
However, pretty much all the games in the series make references to events and characters from 1, so if story is more your thing, start with 1.
Sequel doesn't strictly mean it has to take place later storywise, not in videogames, there's also gameplay mechanics and all that. And even if you want to be pedantic, as you recognized, the last few chapters of 4 are also a story sequel to 1 as they mention Gallia's victory and the deaths of Selvaria and Maximillian.
>loved 1
>got bored of 4 and uninstalled it after 5 missions
I don't even understand what it did wrong, but it was something big and important.
You didn't even get to the actual game, i.e. the winter war.
Daily reminder that VC3 is still the best.
Sakura Wars was always better than Valkyria though so might as well.
>Sequel doesn't strictly mean it has to take place later storywise, not in videogames
Actually, it does, in video games and every other media. It's literally the definition of "sequel". The misuse of the term is just more rampant here.
>the last few chapters of 4 are also a story sequel to 1 as they mention Gallia's victory and the deaths of Selvaria and Maximillian.
Yeah, yeah, I remember that, I just don't remember the exact chapter when that was mentioned, you're right.
In your dreams, sakurafag.
>VN dating sim was always better than an SRPG
What did she mean by that?
Depends if you have a fetish for RNG fucking you in the deepest side of your asshole
Yeah, but they just destroyed all the build up they made
Not him but it lacks so many quality of life stuff that it really feels like a 10 years old game, half of the gameplay is useless unskippable scripted scenes
Story isn't important if the gameplay is 10/10, but if the game is 30-40 hours long and the gameplay is a copypasta of the first one you should have at least decent writing to make up for it
Whatever, call it sidequel if you need to, the user was asking whether to play 1 or 4 so it wasn't just a plot discussion. And this is a series where three main games out of four are set mostly at the same time.
>unskippable scripted scenes
You mean stuff like characters reacting to kills, right? Everything involving text is skippable.
I agree. Honestly it's too similar to 1 and the writing isn't even anywhere as good as 3 which already wasn't exactly spectacular.
And then it has the same 10 year old graphics.
Sega fucked up and it's only natural it bombed
I still liked VC4 but fucking hell.
Yeah, that, every time someone gets a buff (there is no need to pause the entire game for somethign you'll get to see more than 100 times), every time you fuck up and have to see the entirety of the enemy turn before having a chance to restart, every time they have to show something obvious happening in the map, once again it pauses the entire game and gives the cinematic experience (that fucking train on the bridge from VC1), and so many other examples it hurts
