They've done it so many times that if they haven't learned their lessons by now, they'd have to collectively be legally retarded.

I think it really is mostly thanks to the advancements in parental controls. They won't lose their kid-friendly appeal now that they have a way to actually let parents fully control their kids' experience so they don't feel the need to over-regulate the content that gets released on Switch. That, and they finally cracked down on regional censorship that would only happen in the west thanks to shifting to a simultaneous worldwide release schedule for all their games.

That's completely normal, every game goes through ratings board, the company tells them which rating they're applying for and the board inspects the game and points out stuff they need to alter to make that rating. In case of Smash, it was turning upskirts into black voids between Brawl and 4 and some other things in order to get the B/E10 rating.

That's kind of the point, when censorship becomes company policy, there's a different discussion at hand. When a particular person overreaches their authority, while employed to a company that does not have a policy in line with their actions, a call-out from the community (lol) is often enough for, at least, an aknowledgement from the company that it was in fact a mistake. When these things are policy, when the backing of the censorship is the entire company and it's employees, this is no longer sufficient. And with companies as big as sony/nintendo (in the past, at least) one can only wonder WHAT would be sufficient. Nintendo's case at least shows that given enough of a stink, and proven in the long term to affect sales on their entire platform since it is policy for every console released on it, they can eventually relent. Maybe even change their mind.

The English localization really wanted to double down on the British/Celtic vibe that the first Xenoblade had. Most people don't know this, but a lot of dialogue and names in Xenoblade 1 were localized and changed to feel British.
It's really bizarre, but a lot of fans pressured the localization team of Xenoblade 2 to bring back britbongs. Nobody asked them to replace the Christian lore with British paganism though.

There are arguments for both sides in the case of Mr. Game and Watch. It was the original vision of the character for Smash Ultimate and it was an acknowledgement of the character's past, warts and all.
