A lot of people, but probably not the entire team. And most of them were dedicated enough to HotS that they probably still work on it outside of their main projects (I imagine). They were literally the last bastion of quality at nuBlizzard, I hope they're well.

They killed the esports scene and did take members off the team to work on other projects but the game isn't dead. They're just not spending as much money on its development anymore because it's just not as successful as say WoW or Overwatch.
It still gets updates and people still play it. Please stop perpetuating the belief that it is dead.

Good, the year before they canned HOTS esports was the shittiest year of the game's history, everything was so shit, they kept making more and more 2 lane cancer, they pushed the game into a shitty direction where team fighting was the norm from level 1, something that is ruining the other 2 big MOBAs is the push for a teamfight meta, but HOTS took the teamfight meta and made it the entire fucking game. Not to mention the stealth rework, removing the mines map, aka the only map where assassins function after the stealth rework, and reworking garden of terror into another shitty teamfight on the objective map.

The only hope is that the 2 guys left on the gameplay development team can salvage the shitstain that was the esports focused 'meta', and hopefully they don't remove the HOTS art team.

The axed the whole esports division, and the retarded as fuck new CEO announced they would "relocate HotS devs to other games", and everyone took this to mean that all that would be left of the game would be a skeleton crew of maintenance mode engineers. This isn't the case, they certainly moved a bunch of devs from it to other things, but the game still has a team that's working on skins, events, and new heroes. Expect maybe like 4-5 heroes year now, one every like 4 months or soemthing, and MAYBE a new map every other year, who knows. But no, the game is still being developed, just at a slower pace. Each patch is going to have a hero totally reworked, and every other patch is going to be hefty in balance changes, or at least that's been the case so far.

Honestly, this new CEO is a complete fucking hack that really ruined HotS image with that retarded fucking move.

I legit would not be surprised if Blizzard is about to start making a Heroes of the Storm Auto Chess game, wherein you get to pick a a single faction from any of Blizzard's franchises, so say Orc, Human, Zerg, Terran, Omnic, fucking Pandaren or some shit, and instead of LoL or DotA's "champions" you get foot soldiers and "Faction heroes", so like Pandaren get any of the several notable Pandaren characters, Terran get Mengsk or Raynor, any notable Terran character, etc.

Then probably throw in some sort of talent system for customization or some shit, and I can see them putting out something like that.

This is why I feel like if Blizzard were to do an Auto Chess they'd cut back on the RNG a little bit and add some sort of talent customization system to your account or some shit. The RNG is the only complaint I've consistently seen about the Auto Chess genre, and Blizzard has always been big on doing what others are doing but ironing out the edges to make it more easily accessible, and I could see this translating into them trying to make the player feel like they have more of an affect on their outcome than in other Auto Chess games.
