Armor reduces damage taken instead of absorbing it

>armor doesn't reduce stagger

absorption mechanics can easily break a game

good absorbtion mechanics wont

having to repair armor is gay

Go put on an armor and get hit by a fucking hammer and see how much you feel the impact you god damn baboon.

>videogames are real-life
"muh realism" has been killing the industry ever since retards like you started buying PS3 non-games.

Armor will unironically absorb some of the impact and damage. So idk what OP is talking about, reduced damage is absorbing damage

Armor is something that shouldn't even be in the game in the first place, the ideal state of play is for the player never to get hit.

>armor just increases your health pool

>wearing armor

Those are the same thing.

THIS is bad.

>defense is meaningless
>attack is meaningless
>stats are meaningless
>there are also hidden stats, but they too are meaningless
>only matters what level you are
honestly i'm surprised how many people square enix have duped over the years.

just about every RPG speedrun proves you wrong on this one, same as all the level 1 challenge runs people have been doing in JRPGs for decades

I dont know what you mean, doesnt that mean the same thing?
Whats stupid is when armor takes all the damage and depletes quickly, making it essentially a second life bar.

What game?

>armor is just a second health bar

>armor decreases main stats

>lying

>armor is second health

Attached: iu.png (288x415, 135K)

>physical and magical armour are both seperate bars and you only need ot break one to deal damage

user are you ok?
you realise that a suit of armour doesn't make you indestructable right?

>armor immune to physical damage

Attached: 56vbfn.gif (218x218, 100K)

>armor just decreases the chance of taking damage when hit, stacking with dodge stat
>chance to take damage never goes below 5%
This is the absolute worst, fuck D&D

Attached: 1448922042336.jpg (356x374, 36K)

what's the difference between reducing damage and absorbing it?

>Absorbing the damage
you dont take any damage from an attack that isnt X amount of dmg or above

>Reducing the damage
you only take X% of damage from attacks.

>Get a suit of prototype power armor described as extremely resistant to small arms damage
>A big enough group of raiders armed with submachine guns and baseball bats can still take you out
Fuck you fallout 3

Absorbing means 100% of the damage goes to armor.
Reduce is less than 100%, so you always take some health damage.

'Reduces damage' means it reduces damage by a percentage, say 80%. This means that no attack will ever be fully nullified (unless it has 100% damage reduction), it can only be lowered close to zero thanks to the armor. So if a guy kills you in 20 punches w/o armor, now it'll take him 100 punches.

Absorbs damage means exactly that, it absorbs the force of an attack by up to x points. So if a gorilla punch deals 100 damage and you have a super armor that absorbs 120 damage, it'll completely nullify the attack and you'll suffer no damage. Those are the differences.

>absorb
Gain an equivalent amount of that taken in. If you are hit for 10 damage and have 10 absorb, you heal 10 damage.

>damage reduction
Directly subtract from the damage. If you have 10 damage reduction and are hit for 10 damage, you take 0 damage.

Power Armor in FO1 and Tactics turns you into a fucking tank

>enemies can reflect damage
>only protection from elemental damage is explicitly defined, armor doesn't do jackshit against it otherwise
>given values aren't a reasonable nor accurate representation of their actual effectiveness, and require spreadsheet math to actually deduce their real value
>game has both percentage modifiers and numerical modifiers for the same stats
>enemies scale to your level so you're never truly effective against anything in the game no matter how far you get
>accuracy stats in an FPS or game with live combat
>dodge-success percentage in something with free movement in combat

absolute values are always bad for videogames
Dragons Dogma scaling is complete dogshit, the game is sick, but it would be perfect with relative values instead of absolute

>No amount of armor defense or health matters because you should always be focusing on not getting hit in the first place

Attached: chenstare.png (324x285, 17K)

fuck off retard
people like are you why nuDoom's health economy is shallow and casualized

Attached: 11q6qa9kjqh21.png (640x852, 557K)

No, they're not the same thing

Reduced damage = you take damage to health bar but it is slower than if you were unarmored
Absorbed = damage threshold hasn't been met, so the player takes no damage or a paltry 1 HP per hit or some such.

Fallout NV armor uses DT like this.

>not using a resource in the game
Way to be a retard, retard.
Do you also not use mana on your spellcasters?

No, its a complaint. Some games just have it be useless to invest into health and armor when its a dodge favored game.

What are you even babbling about, you mongoloid?

What do you think armor does? You think a sword will sink through it and just cut you slightly less? Armor prevents 99% of the damage from every hit and the only way around it is to hit anywhere that's not armored. The only exception to this rule are blunt weapons and picks.

But you will get shot in the face by a bolt anyways so put you fucken lordly helmet on

I got your game here senpai

damage negation.
damage mitigation.
damage nullification.

you could have said plenty of other words for what you meant besides "absorbs".

Attached: king.jpg (300x300, 13K)

>Game doesn't differentiate between where you hit on the body/armor, giving a standardized reduction throughout

Fallout 1 and 2 did this shit right.
>Finally get power armor
>Ambushed by raiders with small guns, knives and shit
>Take 0 damage unless they crit
>Walk around and bully them with fists
Meanwhile:
>Super mutants or Enclave patrol
>Damage from plasma, lasers, miniguns, explosives etc is heavily reduced compared to lower tier armors
>Can still get whittled down pretty easily and a burst crit can fuck you up fast

currently in my first dnd campaign after a life of video games and i can honestly say AC is not only more realistic but also way cooler and fun

I've never lost interest in a game so fast. Within ten minutes I was playing like a speedrunner

Attached: armorr.jpg (680x1387, 271K)

I think OP is saying that absorbed damage should reduce armour durability or something? so that the armour itself is getting damaged

absorb means you take no damage
