And the Zelda cycle repeats yet again. Now that BotW is out for a while everybody suddenly loves Skyward Sword.
And the Zelda cycle repeats yet again. Now that BotW is out for a while everybody suddenly loves Skyward Sword
Who's "everybody"?
Because here I see nothing but people shitting on SS whenever it gets mentioned.
I've loved Skyward sword since release and ill defend it until the day i die
i think skywayrd sword did a lot of cool things right remembering back to the one and only time i played it back in 2011
but i remember being tremendously disapointed by how pointless the sky is and exploring it is and also how segmented the levels are.
I replayed twilight princess over and over because I loved how connected everything is and the atmosphere is so comfy. Its the only game I remember fondly playing at 2 am on a school night. well ocarina of time and majora's mask too. I discovered zelda then and got all the games around then
>Now that BotW is out for a while everybody suddenly loves Skyward Sword.
>everybody
Fuck off ACfag
I don't love SS, I just like it more than BotW. To be fair, I always liked it more than WW as well.
>series get progressively more and more shit and less Zelda like
>last entry is always not as shit as the newest one and more Zelda like
SS will never be regarded as better than any other 3D Zelda. But it did at least have dungeons and decent music, which were sorely missing from BotW.
doesn't the cycle say that botw should have been hated then? there are legit criticisms people bring up about the game but the general consensus seems to still be that it was a good game.
BotW is a 9/10 Action Adventure but a 5/10 Zelda game.
There hasn't been a good Zelda game in over 25 years
BotW is on its way to being the most Zelda-like Zelda in decades. Unfortunately, it overshot and fixed some things that weren't broken in the process. Really, it just needs a bit of a course correction to shine the way it should've.
It's a 3/10 '''''''''action''''''''' '''''''''adventure'''''''''' and a 0/10 Zelda game
i completely agree but isn't the zelda cycle that the newest game is hated until another releases and then it's loved?
Maybe you should stop obsessing on what you think other people are doing, and try to have your own opinions.
Cool story op I still hate it.
I regard it as better than some 3D Zeldas. It's not in the top half but my rock bottom is, and for the forseeable future shall remain, Wind Waker.
The only good thing about skyward sword is how fascinating the speedrun is.
Lockpicking the game from the titlescreen is one of those things that blows my mind. The actual game is dogshit though even if it looks pretty.
Skyward Sword is by far the worst console Zelda ever made. Its even worse than spirit tracks and phatom hourglass.
Absolutely shit, the only Zelda i couldnt summon the will to finish it.
Nope. The Zelda cycle will never be true for this and some of the portable Zelda. There's nothing worth redeeming from this pos, it did absolutely nothing for the overarching story and even it's own plot is a convoluted mess.
zelda is fucking fucking gay
Nope skyward sword is still fucking trash.
Fuck you I always loved Skyward Sword
But I've always liked skyward sword. The sword controls were a neat idea, but Terrible and should have been optional with the limits of the wii and it already having a shit controller to begin with.
>people exist that unironically like skyward sword
Do you just enjoy eating shit too or what?
All 3D Zelda games are flawed. I like them all but:
OoC has ages like milk and is one of the most overrated games of all time.
MM was rushed and is unpolished because of it.
WW has tons of cut content and feels empty as fuck.
TP was a soulless attempt to recreate OoC with added waggle and horrendous localisation.
SS was a mess in terms of design.
BotW has a great open world, but does nothing with it. It's very similar to MGSV in that regard.
SS also completely ruined any story these games had. Fuck demise, fuck fi, and fuck skyward sword.
Skyward Sword had some excellent moments and ideas, even if it was ultimately a rollercoaster of quality. Yes, it sometimes sucked but look at dungeons like Sky Keep or Ancient Cisters, bosses like Koloktos or Ghirahim, the sheer versatility of Timeshift Stones, how smooth the pouch mechanic was as a UI, or how the gratitude crystal quests ranked among the better sidequests to be found in a 3D Zelda, and can you really say it is absolutely devoid of good qualities?
I mean BotW made me miss and appreciate the dungeons that SS actually did a decent job on, but on the other hand, I always thought that SS had good dungeons.
It's still the worst 3D Zelda overall though.
>BotW has a great open world, but does nothing with it. It's very similar to MGSV in that regard.
It does plenty with it and is nowhere nearly as barren as MGSV. It just needed some dungeons.
SS had terrible dungeons also have fun playing through them 3 fucking times.
>also have fun playing through them 3 fucking times.
You didn't play the game.
What the fuck are you talking about? You don't replay any of the actual dungeons more than once.
Also, Ancient Cistern and Sandship are two of the best in the series.
You're right I gave up a couple hours in and watched a summary because it's fucking terrible.
SHUT THE FUCK UP
THE ZELDA CYCLE IS A FUCKING MEME AND DOESN'T EXIST
IT LITERALLY ONLY HAPPENED ONCE WITH WIND WALKER
If you don't know what you're talking about then don't speak at all.
It happened with TP too when people played SS and realized that it had no overworld.
You do backtrack through them 3 fucking times though so my point still stands. Faggot go waggle a wiimote up your ass.
fuck no I don't that game was shit
SS made me realize that reviews are shit. I was like 11 when I read the 10/10 IGN review for it. I saved my allowance for it for weeks bought it and I fucking hated it. Fuck IGN.
One of BotW's worst mistakes was acknowledging that SS exists
Why does every race worship the goddess of buffets?
Other mistakes include Voice acting and Shrine aesthetics being uniform
SS was a shitshow right from the get-go though
The story is unneeded wanky garbage
The gameplay devolves into simon-says combat
The surface is just small dungeons leading into slightly larger dungeons
Collect-a-thons out the ass
Silent Realms being collect-a-thons instead of demonstrating Links' Power/Courage/Wisdom
Skyworld being empty
Probably other shit, who can remember.
Zelda was cute and Groose became a bro, but that's it
Every 3D Zelda game is good, and there's maybe one or two bad 2D ones
I thought the final battle with Demise was really good to be honest. I like it more than the first half of Ganondorf's fight in OOT at least.
Skyward Sword was a mistake.
Tbh I'm simply bitter about it. Miyamoto came on stage and promised a 100hr adventure. He quickly fixed his statement once the game came out to try and save face, saying he meant 50 for regular and 50 for hero mode. I felt the sky was too empty and traversing it was too silly. I owned a wii and that game had an excuse for every single action to try and use waggle.
I don't really like the characters besides Zelda at the end. I'll admit I felt my throat clenching when Zelda asks you if you'll come back for her, but her plan fails and ends up wrecking the timeline. Makes it sound like if they stay dead for good, demise won't come back, as hia curse states they're needed for him to return. Making them complicit in his destruction.
Not a fan of the Hylian shield being treated like a legendary item from this game on when in oot its like 80 rupees and can be eaten by a like like. I also didn't like the dragons that didn't show up later in the series again nor the return of the tears of light.
Fi was just too chatty. Worse than Navi, and that's saying a lot. I liked the king a bit more and his departure felt so much more personal to me than when Fi went to sleep.
All in all, it might just be that this wasn't the Zelda I wanted or expected. BUT if you do like it then I'm honestly happy for you. Don't let people try and change your opinion.
>horrendous localisation.
wut
Some things do come in 3s in SS - Imprisoned fights, Ghirahim fights, tear hunts. Dungeon revisits are not one of those things. It does reuse provinces and the last dungeon is a sort of Frankenstein'd take on previous dungeons but aside from walking briskly through the first dungeon again to get to the Ancient Cistern, dungeon revisits aren't a thing.
Redpill me on the 3D OoT and MM remakes. Are they good?
it is incredibly funny to me that Skyward Sword has better graphics on the fucking SD wii console that Sword/Shield on an HD switch console
Yes and no. If you can just play them on pc. OoT was kept as is out of the love the devs had for the original while MM imo, got neutered. Game is still great but it has some stylistic and mechanical choices I don't agree with. If you just have a 3ds then hack it and get the cias. They're both worth a playthrough.
It has redeeming qualities.
Now, Other M on the other hand...
OoT's fine if you don't value the aesthetic of the darker areas like Bottom of the Well too much. Never bothered with MM, it sounded casualized to me.
>Music
BOTW music had many touching moments and memorable melodies. It paid homage to the OG Zelda score and gave us some new ones to boot. I hate how it gets ragged on for being 'shit music for a Zelda game' when even for a Zelda game is had good music. It seems like if it doesn't have the exact same famous melodies and exact same orchestrations as the old Zelda's people are going to shit on it, which is really stupid imo. I don't want to keep playing the same Zelda game over and over, thanks.
hell the fuck no I dont like skyward sword
that bird shit alone made me not want to fuck with that game
lol who do you see praising this game
Other M has 2 redeeming qualities. One, it has some of the most satisfying power bombs in the series. Two, it is the only 3D Metroid that allows you to shinespark. Aside from those aspects, it never rises above mediocre even in its best moments.
OM isn't 3D but sure I guess it counts.
Is this cope general? See a lot of fatties seething over this game.
It allows for movement on a Z-axis frequently enough. 2.5D, maybe, but I wouldn't quite lump it in the same category as 1, 2, Super, Fusion, etc.
LINK? more like STINK
Skyward sword marketed itself with a focus on it's gameplay/controls, yet it's story was the real winner.
BotW did the opposite with trailers that showcased nothing but the 2 minutes of story and failed to deliver on the story they led everyone into thinking it'd have.
Really makes you think...
BotW might lack dungeons, but its combat, overworld, difficulty, puzzle design, lack of handholding and general content are in another league. SS sucks because it's bad at all of those things.
It still amazes me how people complain about the sky and imply that it's in any way different from hyrule field, great sea, etc. Every 3D Zelda has an enormous barren expanse of nothing in it, but see that mountain? You can go there
I'm actually playing Skyward Sword for the first time right now. It's okay but has quite a few flaws. Eldin was pretty terrible
>difficulty
Cook good, parry good, and now the game is broken.
I like how this thread literally proved the cycle right.
People exaggerate the emptiness of Hyrule Field and Great Sea to make a point: those areas might not be dense with stuff to do, but they DID have content no matter how sparse it might have been.
SS's sky is different. SS's sky is actually literally empty.
Still more of a challenge than Skyward Sword.
>Always found the overworld the least interesting part of Zelda.
>SS basically makes the overworld into dungeons.
Works for me. Fi still needs to shut the goddamn hell up though.
For the first 10 hours, yes. It's not that BotW doesn't put forth an attempt at challenge but like everything else about the game it can be broken. BotW, as a game from wall to wall, is designed to be broken. I think SS is about as tough as OoT, following enemy patterns is easier but SS also actively punished fuckups and, unlike most of WW or TP, actually dealt out decent-ish damage, especially on Hero Mode. There are VERY few casual checks in Zelda post-ALttP but the first Ghirahim fight actually forced you to play the game correctly to win.
Fuck SS worst zelda game forever

All these themes make extensive use of the two best instruments ever created: the piano and violin. They create an atmosphere perfectly suited to the situations they're used in and evoke emotion, while at the same time exuding complexity and soul. I think the crowning achievement of BotW's soundtrack is the Hyrule Castle theme, which is composed of Zelda's Lullaby and Ganon's fight theme clashing with each other for dominance. This of course is symbolic of what's going on inside the castle itself. Not like you'd pick up on that though, fucking pleb. BotW has one of, if not the best, soundtrack in the entire series. Seethe fag.
Skyward Sword still sucks though.
fuck you i hate ss
ALTTP, LA, OoA/OoS are the height of 2D Zelda and OOT/MM are the height of 3D Zelda
Nope, I like BOTW and still hate SS
skyward sword will always be shit cause of the garbage motion controls
While TP and SS have cool dungeons, and some cool story ideas, they're the weakest of the 3D games.
How tf is twilight on the same level as ss
Crippling autism
No it isn't. There are various islands in with things on them. Not too many, mind you, but if anything, the content is much more densely packed than the aforementioned areas. The sky is absolutely tiny in comparison to the great sea
This makes us true brothers
I don't know SS had much better dungeons it should at least be a tier higher
Bull. I defended that game when it first came out and then replaying it over a year later, absolutely hated it. It gets shat on constantly, not only for it's graphics, character design, horrible dungeons, but side quests and UI decisions. It is probably king of Zeldas in terms of wasting your time and that was fucking Twilight Princess before that. Also, before we forget. FIGHT THE IMPRISONED THREE TIMES
Yeah, it will never be looked at fondly and if anyone does, they are being contrarian for the sake of it.
I only really liked Ancient Cistern. None of SS other dungeons really feel good, or memorable. They are either too long, or just tedious in some fashion and topped off with a disappointing boss. Fucking Tentalus. TP had much more cohesive dungeon design and only the Arbiters Grounds feels like it goes on for too long.
I always liked the game honestly. Like it has its faults but I think if they ever rereleased it they could fix them
I barely remember shit about SS or TP for that matter. The only one I remember well was WW because it was fucking great and I actually replayed it.
I vaguely remember disliking TP for lacking side-quest.
I'm currently playing BoTW due to the sequel announcement and it feels pretty hit and miss. Overall "decent" I guess. But it's kind of sad they felt the need to reinvent this game series in such a way. With BoTW2 underway old Zelda might be done for good. Goodbye actual dungeons.
People say the classic style will live on in the 2D games
>When games are not well known, obviously there will be a much smaller number of people discussing it, and it is likely that the majority of the group that discusses it would be fans of the game since it has their attention without being marketed.
>But if the game is well known, you would obviously get more people to pay attention it. And that means you get people from a wide variety of demographics to come and judge it by their standards.
>So basically little known games tends to be somewhat of a circlejerk, while well known games is under the scrutiny of numerous different people.
>Obvious as people stop paying attention to the games or when the game gets old, it gets settled down back again to a much smaller group, which more often than not would be the fans of the game.
>This is how ignorant people get the impression of the "Yea Forums cycle" when in reality it is just demographics change in threads
And the new 2D games look like fucking mobile garbage.
ALBW was really good and I don't mind LA getting a facelift, but I do wish we could get a new original 2D Zelda again
