Wow, it's like I'm really playing with other people on the internet!
Any tips on how to play the first .hack game? I have settings figured out for the most part in terms of graphics and control scheme, but is there anything I should know? Is the game painfully grindy and long-winded for the sake of padding, or does it have a nice sense of autism numbers grind to it? Already confused by the three keyword thing where you enter different keywords to open up servers/levels to get different monsters with different elements and exp levels.
Piros is shit You can access "secret" levels by choosing destinations they used in the anime Staccato is best move for kite Forest theme is best theme
Justin Campbell
I know it's more dated the the G.U. one that came out later, but I always wanted to try this one, but couldn't be arsed to buy 4 games, especially now at their ridiculously inflated collector's price.
Emulation seems to be working well enough so far. Just not sure of how awful it really is.
>Dude let's remaster our games >But only the GU series who the fuck cares about playing infection lmao let newcomers just be dumbfounded by the story and progression
I love retarded developers.
Austin Ross
Yeah, I had it in my cart for the steam sale, but decided instead of spending money on a game I'm probably not going to play any time soon, I might as well try and download the first games to try them out. Just kinda need to get a sense of what I'm getting into here. >You can access "secret" levels by choosing destinations they used in the anime Man, I never watched it when it was in its heyday.
Gabriel Ramirez
I won't lie. Infection feels more like an MMO than any real MMO, I am not shitting you. It feels so much more like a proper MMO despite being a singleplayer game.
Jaxson Robinson
Hey I just started playing Infection today after I picked up 1 and 2 at a local shop. I hope they still have the 3rd game next time I go but there's no way in hell I'm paying the 140 they're asking for the 4th. I'm 4 hours in and it's really great so far. Although looking at the OP I kind of wish that I had started it on the emulator. Especially since I'll probably have to play it that way with the 4th game anyway. Do the saves transfer between games?
Owen Fisher
Really wish this shit got ported to PC. I never finished the series and I don't want to start the newer games until I go back and beat them.
Andrew Miller
Blackrose best girl. Make sure to keep weaponsbwith certain elements. Elemental weakness is a huge way to get big damage early. Also in quarantine there's a sidequest that has you getting 1 of every item so getting a start on that is smart if you're that kinda guy. inb4 omurice
Aiden Jackson
Yes. You carry over your progress from 1-4, but as I recall it's only really the endgame weapons you might miss. Like the Twin Blades you get from Parasite Dragon in v1 can last you until like v3.
Dylan Young
>Is the game painfully grindy and long-winded for the sake of padding aheh. aheheheheh.
Noah Gomez
Yes saves transfer. I would just emulate so you can upscale and use the fast forward mode for grindan.
Zachary Kelly
You did remember to watch .hack sign first right, it sets up backstory and introduces characters and concepts for the game Also before each game watch the Liminality ovas, 1 per game So Liminality 1 > game 1 > Liminality 2 > game 2 and so on And watch with subtitles on because those have hidden code words in them for rare items in game As for game play data drain everything, levels and items aren't all that grindy but getting data cores which are required can be a pain if you don't know what enemies to go for
Samuel Harris
Except Sign and Liminality are shit, and should both be ignored. If you want the hidden codes, I'm sure Gamefaqs has all of them still.
Nolan Gonzalez
do I really need to do this all to play some half baked jrpg?
Alexander Morris
Wow, its been awhile since I laid eyes on .hack. Feels like I got hit with a wave of nostalgia.
Nicholas Williams
Alright I'll do it. I kind of hate losing progress but I'll live if it's worth it in the long run.
Gavin Diaz
At minimum, be glad the novels and mangas aren't essential So legend of the twilight is non canon and shit so skip it, Roots is canon but non essential and can be skipped unless you want to watch Haseo be a 15 year old edge lord that's obsessed with the first girl that talked to him
Logan Bailey
*miss*
Angel Rogers
ill pass
Wyatt Young
This half baked jrpg has more lore, world building, and character development than today's Square Enix game. .hack is a series that tells its story from all different directions, from what's going on in the real world, to what's going on in game, to what's even going on on their version of the internet. No you don't really have to watch or read all the extra .hack material but it does help piece together some things. Its best not to treat the series as something you need to watch to understand the game but more like a puzzle piece as you piece together the events.
Henry Ortiz
>being this autistic and not just looking up a TLDR guide
Colton Brown
youtube.com/watch?v=PUrU0gu2mN0 What's with old low budget jrpg having OST completely curbstomping anything from modern AAAA shit?
Kayden Cox
>All this Liminality hate
You fags will never experience the joy of buying this for the PS2 and watching the OVA before playing the game. If there's a reason why I played the quadrilogy it's the world building and the music, not the average MMO gameplay.
Asher James
Less focus on graphics due to technical limitations at the time meant that money that would have been spent on visuals got spent on audio
Connor Carter
The TLDR guides are even worse, fuckers can't make decent charts for shit.
>sold as 4 games released about 3 months apart at full price >it's literally just one game cut up into 4 parts with absolute fuck-all changes between games beyond some pig racing shit
Bewilders me how these games got a free pass for this.
Adrian Wright
todays square enix games are forgettable garbage. Its hard enough to want to play a game let alone watch anime. I'd rather extra content for a series be solely in the fucking game then spread across a bunch of rebooted media.
Benjamin Jenkins
It could be another one of those instances where they simply lost the code making it nearly impossible to remaster. Nothing would surprise me.
Christian Watson
the atmosphere and artistic dressings of this game are so fucking cool, but it doesn't really make up for the mind-numbing gameplay sadly enough. GU is a bit more of a playable game
Oliver Peterson
>Sign and Liminality are shit They're literally Lain tier and to dislike them you have to be a brainlet, an NPC and a zoomer all in one
Jace Sanchez
>sign >shit Horrible fucking zoomer-tier taste, sign is kino. Liminality *is* a bit on the boring side, but the way the events of it interact with each of the games is cool and make it worth a watch while playing
Charles Scott
sadly, that's bullshit. To achieve graphics simply used to be more expensive. The real reason is that modern devs don't keep in-house composers anymore and that music hardware became much cheaper and widespread, increasing the amount of mediocre composers available to hire for cheap. In the case of .hack, not all tracks of the OST are that good anyway, and comparable to average stuff today, however the different culture and care in its development gave us a few good ones.
When you get to the final boss and you get immediately clapped, don't give up. Think about what you need to do to win. And don't take all the fun out of it by grinding.
Liam Parker
>with G.U gameplay. Nah, let GU be its own thing and stick to its cel shading style. Just make an really improved version of IMOQ. Maybe with graphics similar to the sekai no mukou ni movie, well maybe not all too similar but at least similar the scenery.
IMOQ has so many issues front to back that a completely rehaul of the game would be needed. They're soulful otherwise.
Take caution newcomers who want to emulate it.
Isaac Watson
This
Like seriously they give you a recap for the first series but the whole thing was a multi-media project that was the whole point so you don't have: Sign, Liminality, Legend of the Twilight Bracelet, or Root AND a kneecapped understanding of the first series. WTF were they thinking.
Parker Scott
Is .hack really over? There's nothing after the Thanatos Report and the mobage that got shutdown in a single year right?
Zachary Reyes
It's the first true "episodic" game.
Ayden Carter
Which is funny when you think that CC2 was originally doing the FF7 remake.
Wyatt Moore
CC2 are more interested in making naruto fighting games and softcore furfag porn these days sadly enough
Christian Watson
LINK was probably the nail in the coffin for any main games.
Bentley Rogers
It was the first of its kind, that's how.
Jayden Murphy
>Legend of the Twilight Bracelet That's non canon
Oliver Sanchez
Name any other franchise to do this that isn't GU.
Bentley Smith
What are the major issues? I'm kind of loving it right now but it's too early to really tell. The world and music alone are worth playing it.
Jayden Russell
Accuracy is a joke, even late game with 99 expect to keep on missing.
The fetch quests, even as part of the story, are abundant and time wasting. For example: go to area, go down 6-10F dungeon (have to fight every battle in your path, can't escape!), get told to go to another area then come back, do the previous song and dance there, come back to original area and do the dungeon one more time. Even with the most efficient grinding you still need to complete two battles of 520 EXP (the max per battle, no matter the level difference) out of 1000 per level. The bright side to this is if you grind in high level dungeons you can easily climb to the disc's level cap.
Camden Barnes
That seems a little annoying but I think I can deal with it. How would you rank the 4 games? I'm wondering if the quality got better or worse over time.
Jack Morales
After that bullshit game and the retarded retcon of the whole events of the setting being an elaberate keikaku of a fucking tree hugging terrorist group. I want to keep IMOQ and GU. Link is dead to me as is that shit awful ova.
Evan Barnes
Fortunately it's pretty consistent, but the bosses are always some form of trouble. It's been a good while since I played so other than my complaints I don't remember specifics.
Highly recommended turbo in an emulator.
Logan Williams
One thing i hope they keep from them working on it is the side quests and extras you can do after the plot for the first game is over then import in to the next one. It worked so well in .Hack, so it should be great in FF7R.
