I recently got into World of Warships, and they give you shit for watching people streaming WoWS on Twitch. So I turn on the streams and leave them on, having them muted or just not wearing my headset because these Streamers do literally NOTHING of interest whatsoever. I'll watch high skill players of some games like Beaglerush doing XCOM, usually because you can pick up some good skills from it or they are funny. But these guys offer nothing.
Yet I tune in sometimes, and I hear and see people throwing fucking money at these people. They throw money at these Streamers and say like "omg just got off work, super hard day" so the Streamer will reply "Ohhh man that sucks and thanks for the donation, well we're glad to have you here!"

That's the reason why you have sports stadiums, concerts, churches, etc. Twitch streams offer people a way of being part of a big group any time, for free. Second, people have wayyy too much free time these days because most people under 35 are working less than 40 hours a week and have no children and of course kids have half the year off. Twitch offers infinite entertainment whereas most other things are finite. You can finish a tv show or a game, but not a twitch stream.
