you have to figure out the missing three terms prior to, 8+11. Then follow the numerical order of both additives. This gives you 9+12 and allows you to multiply 8 with 12 since that is the function.

There are not enough terms to know whether correct, so that's an oversight of the author.
It could be this or the sum method others suggest to get 40, both are correct for this particular problem unless the author reveals more terms.
If you assume that the numbers on the left are decimal, then:
1+4=5 which is 5 in base 6;
2+5 =12 which is 7 in base 5;
3+6=21 which is 9 in base 4,
then 8+11=19, which becomes 201 in base 3, so my answer is 201

One answer that is unequivocally wrong is 19.
