very simple. and ill explain.
1) you make a thumbnail, a small 1x1-3x3 inch picture of the final product, this gets it so you just focus on is your concept even appealing, and you can rapidly do these
2) you do not do a full redesign like seemingly on a whim. you only do this as a last resort, and like any porn game, you allow multiple versions to exist.

for the most part, doing art and refining it is a process that does not radically change the end product, you see artists make BIG changes however most of the big changes are are bringing the art to a more correct appearance, like lets say an arm or something was to big, or in an impossible pose. this is typically what happens, what you are seeing with op and the others is a 'draw X again' where the artist, while technically better then before, decides to impart their new style and taste on the art rather then redrawing the art.

this only really happens to the far left or art school (see cal art) people who get pushed into corners. hell there was an artist I saw do a good job on some steven universe shit (yea, content aside) did a good job shadowing, did a good job getting the character down and 3 months later has flat as hell clean characters with stretch marks as an overall 'improvement' to their style. don't get me wrong, simplifying art can be a way to improve, but not like they fucking did.

If it was in a vacuum with no prior art shown, stardew is far from the worst tumblr influenced art has given us, see or crosscode as examples where all I can think is a different style would have vastly improved it.

as for pixel art in general, I think it looks great when done right but there is a certain amount of pixels where it will start to either look to sparse or start to gain to much detail to really be pixel art. I thin stardew is on the edge of that shit where none of it needed to be pixel art.

in the real world gay people are less than 5% of the population, and when I say gay I mean 100% cant go straight gay, for that to even be possible that there would be a gay couple, you would need at bare minimum 40 npcs and then make a plausible story on how the 2 gay people were both the same sex and both were compatible unless you want to add domestic abuse to the game, anything beyond this is more or less pandering.

Personally believe that there are as many straight people as there are gay, the only thing that makes straight people the dominant end game irl is kids and it just makes life easier to be straight then gay. I believe most people default over to what do they like, masculine and feminine but most people make the mistake that penis or vagina is the real choice they are making.

i think the biggest problem with all the relationships was its too easy to get to 10 hearts with everyone. just give them something they love on their birthday and get like 5 hearts and two events. would have felt more natural if you couldnt get more than like 5 hearts with anyone until like a month or two passed.

and complete tangent, but finding out what everyone likes and dislikes is so obtuse. the characters mentioning their friends/families likes and dislikes is too scarce and half the time its a randomly generated, "this person hates being given literal GARBAGE. bet you didnt know, huh?"
and why dont they fucking tell you themselves? like, i loved that Leah told me to just give her driftwood because she can make stuff with it, but she's like the only person who ever did that.

Did you know you can turn animals gay? Not bi, but gay. You just raise a bunch of males without access to females. As they reach sexual maturity, they'll want to have sex, but there are only males around, so they'll have sex with each other. Let them do this for a while, then introduce females. All they do is either stay at the house all day go to town all day or stand in theire special place on the farm all day they really dont do much. Each spouse "can" perform a task like feeding all animals but once you upgraded your stuff you will have an auto feeder so thats basically nothing. Abigail used to repair fences whatever that means
