STR > DEX
Depends. What kind of thief? there are many varieties.
High mobility system, DEX>STR
Low mobility system, STR>DEX
Illusionist > assassin > fighter > everything else.
For example ?
>never again
Warrior:
>Can just clobber without thought and tank everything
>Gear is always super fucking expensive, not that they need it
>Usually has low mobility because game devs got bullied by athletes in highschool
Mage:
>Has dozens of spells and several easy solutions for every situation.
>Always has some bullshit way of generating infinite money
>Just teleports everywhere like they're playing on very easy automatic
Thief:
>Weak as hell, MUST use wits, high risk high reward baller
>Plunders from rich fucks like a champ
>Rope bow, grapple hooks, wall running. All the good shit.
Gtfo, casuals. Min maxxing is the opposite of fun. Gotta have some challenge.
a dick ass thief MC works so well in many RPGs because the companions fill all the other niches and I don't like having two of a single class, you also end up controlling him the most for quickly ending encounters with sneak attacks
Assassin
Rogues
Scouts
Thiefs are not like those though, just base class. He can use steal, lock picking and stealth to catch up to one or two foes
>steal every item
>never use them
I'm actually so damn glad people make these >get 99 elixirs >never use them Posts because now I actually burn through items like they're about to expire and all my RPGs have been a lot more fun.
Thief > all other jobs in real life.
>be a dick ass thief
>"Ramza, draw your sword"
>steal his sword
>he punches for 34 damage
>thief was so fucking fun and broken they had to give abilities to certain enemies so you couldn't break or steal equipment in later versions of tactics
Thief
Always
>Not going maximum DPS class in every game
Thief is not a class. it's just a side stuff that only a warrior can do properly.
>max STR
>kill enemies and take their shit
>smash doors down with your fists
>doesn't need stealth because the whole world is afraid of him
Thief is a literal gimmick
Posting my shitty oc class system
>Martial catalogue
-Melee stuff (knife skills, sword skills, Shield skills etc)
-Ranged stuff (guns, bows, crossbows etc)
-Utility stuff (engineering, alchemy, sneaky etc)
>Magic catalogue
-Matter (elemental stuff, transforming stuff etc)
-Soul (Chi, holy stuff, spirit stuff etc)
-Void (anti magic stuff, space/time stuff, hexes etc)
idk figure people mix and match like 3 skill trees from across the catalogues to make their custom class. Like someone wants to be a necromancer they can just take skill trees from soul shit and can mix it with a big sword if they want, or just more magic.
>warrior
>doing stuff requiring dexterity and finesse
Post your penis size (don't lie) and the class archetypes you are most attracted to when starting a new game.
>10cm
>rogue or ranger
Bards > all
And none of that magical female singing shit. Male bards.
>thief class
>can't actually steal anything
fucking hate generic terms like "thief" and "Rogue" when the class really plays more like a ninja assassin 99% of the time.
Fighter/Thief > Thief > shit > Fighter
>thief class
>can literally steal anything
No RPG has thieves as fun as Elminage, where you can literally steal bolts of lightning or even abstract concepts.
Cleric is the best class
>dexterity
You're not a pole dancer. Even INT makes more sense. You won't be able to steal any valuables without a strong grip, that's for sure. And then again, you'll have to carry a lot of heavy stuff on yourself, since you're a "thief". So yeah, STR makes much more sense here.
>finese
Every class have that.
Both ninjas and assassins did steal stuff every now and then as part of their jobs.
daredevil > thief
Actually, Final Fantasy Tactics does. You can literally steal a person's faith, bravery, loyalty and magical capabilities.
captain america > daredevil
>Mages cant use armour or weapons
>Clerics and Paladins are seperate classes
>Ranger is actually just an archer, forced to have a pet
>Thief is just an assassin
>DEX is the stealth stat
Imagine having never cleaved someone in half stealthily, getting a drop kill by just falling on an enemy with your mass, or lockpick by tearing the lock off. STR stealth is best stealth
My thief in D&D always has max strength too. Nothing says you can't be stealthy and strong.
I like the power fantasy and this kind of aestetics of the thief class. Too bad no game except the Thief games capture it.
Or the worse offender,
>All of that
>In a game where the same character can hop between those classes at will/can get a class change/reset
What is your favorite warrior subclass?
Wizard Slayer
If a knight steals things he is a thief, if he were to be without a lord he would be a rogue.
what im trying to say is that the names bother me in how broad they are when usually the class they're stuck to is specific playstyle that could be more aptly named.
Not compensating for anything
>You can literally steal a person's faith, bravery, loyalty and magical capabilities.
No, and I'm not talking about debuffs either.
The Chadzerker
Monk
How does your Thiefs 'always' have max strength? I thought d&d stats were about dice rolling.
Something like Man-At-Arms. More of a soldier archetype that is not as strong as an individual fighter but is good at organized military, rank and file/formation fighting and commanding others while at the same time dishing out appropriate amounts of punishment. Str/Int but not a spellcaster.
all of those would be loud
>not wanting to be battlemage and light people on fire
What a pussy
Fencer. Come at me, bro.
>max level mages can do reality breaking shit while martials get outclassed
>it's another episode where devs don't understand levels
What's your brilliant scheme once someone gets poked once and doesn't stop rushing you?
Stealth crouching is one of the dumbest things in video games and makes no fucking sense.
Dodging and using your offhand gun to shoot them in the face. That is presuming their tendons aren't already ruptured, of course. What a plebeian question.
>your offhand gun
What??? If guns are an option why not just use two gun's?
Most fantasy rpgs emulate setting of medieval Europe. There were neither ninjas nor assassins roaming the streets back then. Sneaky dudes that sliced men's throats in backalleys were referred asthieves or thugs.
How would you reload them?
>picking ninja over based samurai
i fink fieves are best.
fick as fieves.
what are your foughts on fieves?
Thief is an excellent utility class which typically make games solely focused on it's performance very enjoyable. However when it needs to share the spotlight with various classes, the number of utilities the game can implement is more limited in order to work on each class' basic stuff. Really that's true of any class. But I'd say thief and mage suffer the most from it, though typically magic gets more attention due to being eye catching.
Realistically, just slot one in a holster and use both hands to reload the other.
>tfw playing as mage breaks all other classes
>tfw can do what a warrior does with destruction magic and can do what a thief does with open lock/chameleon spells and potions
Same user. Always be using items, its what the devs wanted.
You ever hear of slight of hand, retard?
I know for a fact you're wrong. Nothing trumps the Wizard
>slight of hand
>slight
Haven't heard of that one.
How do you remain stealthy while having muscles tho
t. Chad
Yeah your big warrior brain makes it too hard to think critically. You sure are correct now that ive spelled a word incorrectly.
>ive
INT is not a dump stat.
I used to save items too but then I figured some time ago that it's no use saving anything for "later use" unless you need a combination or something. It's much more fun to use all the stuff. However in many games it's just a waste of time to use anything else than healing items or damage boosting items, since the best way to play any game is to kill enemies as fast as possible. Using damage items isn't usually worth the time over to just running towards the enemy and killing it
I pop those on bosses but I mainly just meant health and mana potions. No reason to hold onto those forever
Samurai/Bushido
The Death Knight/Blackguard/Antipaladin or whatever you want to call it is the best archetype.
Prove me wrong.
Sez you. I make lots of friends. Sometimes new friends want me to smash old friends. Head hurt so I smash em all. Then I find more friends
Thief is only good if you can steal the opponent's weapon right out of their hand.
I gotta admit, there's nothing more fun than a sneaky, witty CHA build thief.
My nigga
>he doesnt play fighter/thief/mage
>he thinks muscles = slow
Watch something other than WWE
not a thief game but using the force to pull weapons away from stormtroopers and have them run around trying to punch you is one of the most fun things about pic related
In video games this is usually the case but only because casters typically don't do anything other than throw fireballs and fighters don't do anything other than swing swords. Thieves at least usually get simple utility/flavor mechanics in lockpicking and pickpocketing and such. Making interesting combat/magic mechanics is way harder so the other archetypes usually get the shaft.
There are very few games where the Jack of All Trades gets a satisfying end game compared to those who dedicate to a single branch or even just double classing. It's good for a protag in a party based system, provided he gets something to set him apart, but in a single player game it is almost never worth it.
dragonborn > classes
This is because too many games have absurd inflated health pools and shitty attacks that scale off of stats. This is why RPGs that have very slight stat scaling are best. After all, in real life a 15 year old who shoots a man in the head is just as deadly as a 30 year old who shoots a man in the head.
>Rogue class specializes in ailments and fucking up already ailing enemies
>Ailments don't fucking work
Battlemage, Spellsword, Magic Knight, or anything to do with Sword & Spell
MAGIC MISSILE
>play fighter/thief/mage
>run from all possible combat encounters
>Jack of All Trades
>Ends up horrifically underpowered at the end of the game
>Requires massive amounts of skill points to be wasted in multiple different schools
updated my journal
So many goddamn games make status effects useless that I never use fucking anything unless someone explicitly tells me they DO work on everything. Fuck every Square, Enix, Atlus, etc JRPG.
based
>Atlus
But buffs/debuffs are extremely useful and important in SMT games.
Play Etrian Odyssey. The ailment-based classes actually work well in that series.
Battlemage was my first serious oblivion run, good times.
My problem is that I always gravitate toward the rogue characters, but I like being rogue myself. So I end up with two squishies and get pounded in combat situations cuz every video game ever rewards going heavy on tanks
Fuck yes, magic resistance stacking warrior master race
Good luck trying to zap me, you old fragile grandpa
aka Witchunter
>Single Player
Whatever the damage Mage is
>Party Based
Support Mage
War Monk is the best class in any game ever.
>Hard hitting axes
>Can use healing and utility magic
>Extremely high magic defense
>Pretty good physical defense
>Obliterates armor units with magic weapons
Perfection
Fighter gameplay
>Auto attack
Thief gameplay
>Auto attack from behind
Mage gameplay
>Control the battlefield with a variety of interesting and visually impressive spells
Yeah I'm probably playing a wizard if I ever try Pantheon as well...
Stop playing MMOs you caveman.
