Just googled it. Set in the 70s in Brazil right? It honestly doesn't matter where it's set, the fact is that it's going to have that fucking awful control style where they tried to make it "realistic". Like when you press your stick in the opposite direction, your character does that really slow turn around walk. I hate that shit and read dead has it too.

>main characters are likable (mostly just including Niko and Roman)
>overall theme and premise is very unusual for a triple A game, let a lone a rockstar game
>pop culture references in the story are kept to a minimum, sheds light on places and characters instead who are from the lesser known places like the eastern-bloc

The bad

>story is absolute wank, doesn't go anywhere
>barely any side activities
>traversing around the map feels like a drag most of the time, every one just takes the cab to missions
>supporting cast is unlikable and forgettable, most characters are just cynical assholes
>the physics are a bit too much and overemphasized
>overall depressing aesthetic that's uninviting (most likely intentional)

IV is good if you take it for what it is. Most people at the time were expecting San Andreas craziness.

I'm 25 and i like GTA4 because it has a lot of slavic culture and i'm Russian so i felt like at home while playing gta4.
Also i really enjoyed the driving. Hate it all you want but it felt so satisfying.
4 is as good as SA.

I like gta 4 but I have a feeling disliking the game has a lot to do with nico's character. I'm eastern european and find nico's antics endearing and funny in a dark gloomy way. maybe americans dont like playing as nico because it's hard to relate to him.

It's still one of the better GTA games. Really interesting, quirky characters all with distinct personalities. One of the more interesting backstories to a GTA main character. The most impressive city when it comes to how lived in it seems. Sure, there were a couple steps back when it comes to the PS2 games but I think this game and if especially if you includes the story expansions adds so much to the GTA formula. I actually like it more than 5, I found the characters of that game to be almost insufferable and the game world even if it was more expansive, much more boring to roam around in.

I hate the character control in Rockstar games too. I think anybody who's ever played a modern one does. Fuck that "character has weight" bullshit. It's sloppy and makes the game feel heavy.
