What does this mean for gaming?
What does this mean for gaming?
More shitty machine translations.
The reason things like localization exists is because sometimes you can't directly translate from Japanese into English without losing context.
That's not how it works. Watch the videos and tell me that's machine translation material.
Overly literal, soulless robot translations.
You didn't post a link, am I supposed to know there was a video?
Just google the fucking thing jesus christ you literal moron
ztranslate net
since op is a drooling retard i'll post the videos
youtube.com
youtube.com
>drooling retard
>people literally on the internet but don't know how to use google
Fuck off you stupid newfags. Not everyone should spoonfeed you literal retards.
You're a fucking idiot.
Thank you.
It's a glorified OCR, what's so special about it? I wish Google Translate's OCR was available on PC/desktop.
Thanks. I literally had no idea what the ever living fuck OP was talking about.
Nothing, programs like this have existed for a real long time.
>you're an idiot
>the name of the program is in the fucking OP
>will literally take 2 seconds to type it into google to find the website
Does your mom change your diaper before she drives you to school?
There's a description of the program and the program name right there. Holy shit Yea Forums is dumb.
Is there a free OCR that isn't a pain in the ass to use and can handle Japanese text? Google Translate has a bretty decent OCR but it's only for phones, Is there something similar on PC?
Looks CPU intensive.
It is
youtu.be
4:13 - 6:17
So useless in higher tier emulation, the only place it'd get any use.
Not everyone should have to back up your claims. Get bent, faggot.
What fucking claims? All that was asked was what it meant for gaming. Stop being a fucking retard for one second in your life.
You know what you doing
if it takes off maybe an easier way for people to do fan translations for games and will definitely be way better for visual novels compared to the buggy text hookers most people use
>Watch the videos and tell me that's machine translation material.
its fucking machine translation material you braindead moron do you think machine translations are still on the level of babelfish and atlas from 2004?
Why the fuck is this shit running on CPU
As opposed to what?
GPGPU
GPU for calculations. There's a reason every modern neural network is trained and then ran on GPU.
It's common practice to include some kind of evidence or support for any point you're trying to make, it's not up to him to "google it". Include an example next time for people who aren't familiar with whatever you're shilling
second-rate google translate. next shill please
>using jewgle
yikes
Nigger the fucking info is in the OP. Stop being a lazy stupid cunt and do your own research. The time you spent arguing on an anonymous image board could have been the time do educate yourself about the topic instead of looking like a dumbass.
Are YOU retarded? You tried to make a point and when people asked you about it you told them to fuck off and look it up themselves
Next time you go to work do this to your boss and see what he says
Oh shut the fuck up, people like you are the reason why everyone is so entitled. If you won't look up information yourself and instead want to be fed by mom then fuck off out of this thread and rub those last 2 braincells together to off yourself.
>Hey did you guys check this out?
>No, what is it?
>Fuck you figure it out yourself
Okay bud
You dumb motherfucker, the information is in the thread. If you're too stupid to fucking read then that's not my fault. Your post only applies if the information isn't readily available you nitwit. Kindly rope yourself cunt.
chiming in to say op is a big retard.
>I refuse to learn unless someone does it for me!
It means dicks in OP's ass
Why is OP so sensitive?
I'm sensitive to people being moronic and refusing to do anything for themselves given the tools they have. And there's a lot of that on Yea Forums.
Are you cute? Be my bf?
Stopping in to say OP is a fag lol
Post links if you're going to talk about shit that no one knows about you fucking brainlet
OP is a massive dicksucking faggot. Stop crying like a little bitch because you like to half ass your posts.
Yea Forums used to scorn spoonfeeding
now you all just call people tranny niggers and complain about breast sizes
Different kinds of language have different of grammar, so the ZTranslate is a worse version of Google Translate because at least Google Translate don’t require any kind of downloads
jesus fuck I agree with OP
Here you all sit, connected to the worlds largest information database with multiple different services made specifically to make finding information easy, and you sit there and demand youtube videos?
You lazy faggots couldn't just open a new tab and search the fucking name of the project? For real?
No, we just don't give a shit unless told why should we care cause we are bombarded with shills and shitposting fags. You better convince us or fuck off.
tldr
description because op is a retard who doesn't understand how making claims work
>ZTranslate translates games based on screen grabs on the user's machine, in either package mode, or automatic mode. In automatic mode, when the user presses the tilde key (~) the client grabs a screenshot of the current window in focus, sends the image to the ZTranslate server, and then waits to recieve the translated image back to display in ZTranslate window. The server does this by doing a generalized OCR algorithm, and then using machine translation to translate the OCRed text to the target language (both via google apis).
>These two actions can be slow and inaccurate, so the image sent to the server is saved, where the user can modify and improve the translation, and eventually release a packaged translation. In package mode, a user loads a pre-made package, and then the client will continuously grab the window in focus and translate the image based on the package. This mode runs much faster than automatic mode (allowing continous grabbing), doesn't require making calls to the server, and uses a currated human translation instead of a machine one. Packages themselves can be made public for other users to download from the downloads page on this site, or they can just distribute it themselves whichever way they want.
tl:dr it's an ocr software with 2 modes. one that uses google translate and takes ten million years to send an image to the server and the tl'd image back to the user. the other loads a human-made tl 'package', because it's loaded locally and is human-made, it contains none of the problems of mtl and can load the tl instantl
That was a wonderful episode of Game Dungeon
So this is utterly worthless for auto-translation given the insane latency, but it's "alright" as a way to overlay subs for games people are too lazy to actually hack. It also gets past things like character limits, I guess.
The problem is you're left with an incredibly ugly product. And shows the latency is totally unusable even for fucking DOSbox, because this turd is obviously hammering your CPU constantly every frame.
>>if it takes off maybe an easier way for people to do fan translations for games and will definitely be way better for visual novels compared to the buggy text hookers most people use
Maybe for the first, absolutely not for the second. We already have text hooking stuff that overlays in real time. It's shitty, but hooking works fine on almost every engine. This program doesn't improve the translation at all, it's just a new, very slow, way to draw on screen.
You want me to give a shit about this then fucking provide information or get fucked. I was interested until you showed how much of a piece of shit you are.
so basically the implication of it is that people can use this tool to provide their own tls without needing to find hackers to directly replace the original script with their tl'd script in the game files. the tl mode with no human intervention is essentially google translate, like in pic of the quoted post (and is also so slow that you're likely to have already advanced past whatever needs to be tl'd by the time it comes back, just like in the pic)
yeah it seems like it's just a way to provide tls without needing hackers. the tradeoff is that it's extremely ugly and probably still requires the translators to make a package (script) for the tool itself. doesn't seem like it has very many use cases
>We already have text hooking stuff that overlays in real time. It's shitty, but hooking works fine on almost every engine.
it's both shitty and does not work "fine" on almost every engine, text hookers are at best shitty as you said and at worst either a pain in the ass to set up or basically unusable, and they have to be configured differently for basically every engine
this is way more effective, easy to use, and compatible. its also way slower and cpu intensive outside of package mode which is why it probably doesnt have much machine translation potential outside of vns
if you read your vns waiting 10 - 15 seconds for every new frame to be translated and sent back to you, sure i guess
I'd say bypassing the text limit and cutting out the hacker middle-man is pretty useful, there are a lot of translations that are stalled due to a lack of hacker. I'd say it's worthless right now due to the absolutely insane latency even in package mode, but in 5-10 years it could be a viable way to play games.
I am concerned about how it actually works on games that aren't static screens, though. There's a lot more information to process if I can see a text box a million different ways, and with a transparent backing I don't really know how the screen recognition part would work. It'd have to default to some kind of hybrid OCR system, and I feel like that would be much slower.
Text hooking works fine. The few titles that do something weird generally have codes, setting them up is about as difficult as running 2 programs at the same time, and it's really fucking bizarre that you'd think that this is a good replacement for them when it'll probably be 10 times more janky. For old console games, this could work. For VNs? You couldn't choose a more convoluted system. With auto mode it's completely unusable for VNs, with package mode you're far better off just hacking the game.
