I ended up getting a partial bolt-modded model m in the end

They were all garbage 6 years ago too, nothing but rubber dome over membrane and pre-retooling Cherry switches as far as the eye can see. There are a lot of chinese boards now that are just as shitty, but appropriately cheap at least. And some of them even have hotswap sockets so anyone too retarded to get the hang of soldering can get one of those and replace the garbage switches they come with with something good like Kailh Box or Zealio switches. And then there's the availability of shit like modern hall effect and optical switch keyboards, and even Cherry got their shit together and retooled their switches so at least the linear ones are less garbage now. Too bad their clickies still sound like shit and their tactiles still aren't tactile.

They even suck at that, I switched from a backlit board to a non-backlit with white-on-black keys and I actually have an easier time reading legends on these in the dark with just the glow of my monitor.
