Exceptions notwithstanding since there'll almost always be at least some good films and with hindsight the film industry was hit hard by the great recession (and still feeling the effects imo) which combined with the post-Iraq+Afghan War and how it proved beyond any shadow of a doubt that 'representatives' in supposed democracies do not in fact listen to their peoples even at the absolute most crucial and critical times. And a bunch of other stuff resulting in a nuclear explosion of disillusion in (at least) the West and resulting mass escape into cyberspace and surrender to sign value with the rise of social media and especially Fakebook. In other times of hopelessness, uncertainty and peril this might have spurred some creative revival but outside of some stuff it seemed to have done more damage than good, with the industry playing it ever safer and risk-averse just to satisfy bottom lines, flocking to reboots, capeshit etc. which however entertaining is vapid even compared to the source material. Just seems like a massive drop in interesting stuff somewhere in this period.

Music I disagree with, Sturgeon's law always applies, and even in dire times good music continues to be made and as long as you don't let Spotify or Apple dictate your musical tastes it won't get completely drowned out by all the crappy stuff.

Games is a mixed bag partially as a result of the same troubles with the film industry, but at least we got some great stuff still, esp. non-AAA.

You ignored my point you fool, I stated that their inherent greatness and potential is unknown because of how it is limited by the times however their effectual greatness and to what extent they changed music, etc can be factored in to say yes he is objectively better. Tchaikovsky was one of the few men who were able to escape the shadow of Wagner and find some level of uniqueness to gain such fame. His greatness is not just simply great for his ingenious music but because of his art as a culmination of the arts with the direct philosophical intent.

Lets say there is a great civilisation. Now another greater one comes along many years later past the existence of the previous. It is the absolute greatest in every way, it is the height of advancement, it created the most given its current level of advancement, it advanced the fastest, etc. No man would disagree that this newer civilisation is easily the greatest not that the other was not great. That is of course he would not agree if he had some sought of personal relation to that previous civilisation and that is what happens when one claims all great artists to be equally good. Because a human is far easier to grow attached to in some way every man finds himself related to his favourite artist somehow.

It definitely wasn't the best time, that would be the 6th gen era. However, I wouldn't necessarily say it was the worst time either, just because even back then things were better than they are now. That era is where everything started to slowly fall into the abyss. 2007-11 still weren't all that bad, but you could notice around that time the slow, painful transition to the shit state of gaming we're currently in. 2007-2014 was the beginning of the end.
2015 to now is a worse time overall, because we are all exposed to the nuclear fallout from the bad decisions that had piled up in that era. And it continues to be a worse time, because those bad decisions made in the late 2000s and early 2010s still persist to this day, being made by the same companies.
Not to mention newer, more sinister shit like loot boxes, online gambling and microtransactions being put into almost every AAA game.

Undoubtedly a lot of the stuff in the late 00s and early 10s isn't so great. Many small developers went out of business in the 00s or got taken over by giant corporations. The original auteurs of the game industry were largely forced out. Many games are about franchises and reboots with people that weren't originally involved or weren't that important like TES and Bethesda being led by a beta tester.

Now everything if formulas and cunning techniques to sell gambling to kids and the impressionable. The hype train really got going in the late 00s and hasn't stopped since. Now since the early 10s you can watch as some of those auteurs return to cash out with Kickstarters. This is the time line where people pay for emotes and are glad to have DRM that manages their entire game library.
