In the past comic games were a way to discover obscure new characters or a vehicle to give cool C-listers a time to shine, and now for the most part it just seems like "movie cast, assemble"

MVC3 and MVC2 definitely pulled some oddballs out.
And most of the ones from MvC3 ended up getting movies.
2 mostly had them reuse the oddballs from MSH and make even more X-Men characters like Cable & Marrow. MvC2 was basically X-Men vs Street Fighter 2 (feat. Darkstalkers).
I like the stories about Marvel 3's roster selection, like how the devs went through a huge book of Marvel characters and the moment they saw MODOK they went onto a video call with Marvel and begged to let them use him.
Where the fuck are Taskmaster, MODOK, Nova (not the Corps, I mean Rider) & X-23 in the movies then? Also Iron Fist got fucking screwed, his Netflix series sucked and isn't MCU canon and now they're making a Shang Chi movie. I bet we won't get Daredevil, Punisher, or Heroes for Hire in MCU just because the Netflix stuff didn't go so hot after Daredevil's later seasons.

IIRC Shang Chi's movie is confirmed to have the legit Mandarin. There was a canon MCU short where the fake IM3 Mandarin was interviewed by a film crew in prison and the ending reveals that they work for the real Mandarin.

MvC1 is peak "SOUL" but it's a broken mess of a game, way more than Marvel 2 is. MvC2 is just unbalanced; its systems are actually pretty simple and straight-forward and most of its bugs are on individual moves. MvC1 is busted on a system level, where you can mash Airdash Fierce with War Machine in neutral until you have 3 bars and then bring in both characters to do supers over and over and get 50% guaranteed chip damage before just building meter all over again.
UMvC3 was the perfect balance between being a good crossover and a good fighting game. One solid patch would've made it practically perfect, and a UMvC3.5 that added 6-10 new characters (like the ones Infinite got that were fun but in a shit game) that weren't broken would've made it literally perfect. TvC:UAS is arguably the best Vs game but I personally like UMvC3 more.
Why point out just Dhalsim instead of the greater problem of copy-pasting SF Alpha and Darkstalkers characters to pad roster size? If anything the biggest admission is Ken & Akuma, since Ryu could literally use installs to get their moves in MvC1.

MvC2 has horribly-resized sprites for everyone with an insane amount of cut frames, not to mention that most of Capcom's newcomers are recycled from other games, and this is the only real time a fucking clone was part of the full roster, rather than being a bonus hidden character like all past entries.
He was just a garbage character in general. At least Ken and Akuma had popularity on their side, not to mention, for some retarded reason, Capcom replaced SF3 Ryu with his younger SFA version for that game.
I think it was to keep consistent with all the Alpha sprites they shoved into the game (like they did with XMvsSF & MSHvsSF).
I'll miss MvC1 & UMvC3 Ryu. I think those are two of his most interesting incarnations, with Third Strike and Smash Ultimate following them. Marvel Infinite fucking ripped away everything cool for the sake of one shitty bonus animation if you do his Level 3 in the Evil Ryu costume.

At least the voice direction isn't whoever was in charge of Infinite. That's what killed all the voicing in the game. Marvel 3 Blaze is god tier but I liked the clip we heard in the E3 trailer more than any of his Infinite lines.

Well in-universe they do call her Spider-Woman iirc. Thing is, every Spider-Woman other than literally Peter sucks. No one remembers them. It's the Spider-Girls and Gwens that manage to stay afloat without a ton of shit surrounding them, like 616 Jessica.

Marvel 1 unironically is better even with the limited roster. The stages are actually marvel/capcom themed and are beautifully done in pixel art instead of falling for the 3D meme. The music is great and hype too. While 2's soundtrack was good the jazz didnt really mesh as well as MvC 1's

It was the prelude to it. During the time the Superhero Registration happened, some government shenanigans put a medicated Norman Osborn in charge of the Thunderbolts, who became the state team for Colorado.
Thunderbolts at this time is a mixture of the classic team, like Radioactive Man and Songbird, who are genuinely reformed villains turned heroes and Norman's caged hitmen like Bullseye and Venom. Then Secret Invasion happens, Norman is televised around the world killing the Skrull Queen and Tony Stark is forced to run, leaving behind his life as Director of SHIELD.
Norman is given SHIELD, disbands/renames it HAMMER, steals Iron Man's armor, turns himself into the Iron Patriot and his Thunderbolts, minus the moral ones, become The Avengers, but with traditional hero personas, i.e. Bullseye pretends he's Hawkeye, Venom is now Spider-man, etc.

Cosmic Marvel was once the best thing going in capeshit like a decade ago. Granted, that period wasn't all GotG, it was in part carried by characters like Nova and Super Skrull.
