Before the start of FFVII, Tifa got her father murdered by Seph, and Cloud was feeling like shit because he promised to come back stronger to be her "hero" and that situation pretty much exposed him as a weak guy that failed to become a high class soldier.
He then went through the 4 years Mako experiments, lost his mind, and came back being really distant to Tifa.
Instead of the usual where we start with the heroine being introduced and slowly having something with the MC, Tifa was the love interest that the MC already had but was actively avoiding due to past problems that the player didnt know about.

This is what you get when you put two autists together. Neither of them know what they are doing. That's what makes it cute. Too bad no doujin can get that dynamic just right.
