What does Yea Forums think about gaming on Linux?

There's still too many games that don't work on Linux.
Don't play games on your budget web server
I'm glad I don't have to reboot to Windows to play most of my games, but if you're happy with Windows, I wouldn't recommend it.
Not worth it. Linux is good for servers, embedded machines, and programming. Not for use on an end user's general purpose machine.
Its the only desktop OS with a future, the only platform making a credible attempt to preserve the entire PC gaming library, and the only platform with working graphics drivers for hardware from one of the two only remaining GPU vendors.
What else is there?
Desktop Windows is EOL in less than six months, moving irrevocably to a tablet-first platform.
OS X is similarly on its way out, with its support for games ending even sooner as it has no support for any modern standard API.
"Adequate" if you're a freedom-minded individual with a single PC. But if you can afford it, you really should have a separate Windows powerhouse for games + a comfy linux laptop for actual daily use.
Linux is the Zsnes of gaming.
Bretty gud. Wine finally fixed 64bit bethesda script extenders and the DX9 extension for DXVK is developing rapidly. Valvemoneys are really showing their power in Wine development. They are also funding work on KDE's window manager now so maybe their next endorced distro will be something with Plasma by default.
Still wouldn't recommend it to non tech savvy people.
Go away tyson tan.
Let me know when Valve fixes KDE's broken software updater.
dude just sudo apt upgrade.
>They are also funding work on KDE's window manager
Da fuck, how deep is Valve going?
Are they planning on making SteamOS 2 ?
>using the command line in current year
Let me know when Linux isn't stuck in the stone age.
But why not have a comfy Linux laptop for daily use, and a comfy Linux powerhouse for gaming?
Downgrading to Windows on my gaming system would rob me of more performance than I currently lose from DXVK overhead.
It's literally faster than clicking your way to the software center.
SteamOS is already version 2. They're working on version 3.
It will launch on a new generation of Steam Machines around the same time as the Windows End of Life.
>clicking one button to update is faster than clicking two buttons and manually typing a command in
This is your brain on Linux.
Ctrl+shift+t, my little techlet.
One mouse click, my little caveman.
>like 20 replies in there's already a guy who's panically afraid of the terminal
Every time.
Linux is literally the only OS that still forces you to type in commands for basic system functionality. Everyone else moved on.
1. no one is forcing you to use the terminal
2. just last week I had to rev up powershell on my windows partition because win10 didn't want to turn off fast boot
Nobody's forcing you, it's just the better way to do it most of the time. Why do you have such a strong opinion on a subject you're obviously not knowledgeable about.
>no one's forcing you
Then why does every solution to a Linux problem start with "open the terminal"? Linux's reliance on old, outdated, deprecated methods are the reason it still has a less than 1% desktop share.
Valve is going to pull you kicking and screaming into the present.
Why are you so angry? Does the terminal remind you that you might not be as tech savvy as your mom always told you?
Because telling people to copypaste one command is easier than posting screenshots telling them which buttons to press on some config menu.
This is why Microsoft has been desperately attempting to catch up to Linux's command line for years. Finally they gave in and just downgraded their OS to a host for Linux containers to allow professionals to get real work done.
Post more kiki
>implying Zsnes isn't a good thing
imagine how many computers will get fucked if windowsfags start running shady commands from internet with admin privs
Hopefully multiplat engines will grow it.
The day we can drop microsoft entirely will be a happy day. Fuck win10.
>IO blocks the DE and WM
>Swapping can swap out the DE and WM
>DE and WM don't have realtime priority by default
These are major issues that need fixing before this thing can become a gaming OS.
It is shit.
Wow great post fagtron you sure convinced me with those hot opinions
just use mint
Proton is pretty impressive.

Proton components can even fix issues on windows.
world domination proceeding as planned
Hitman 2 is actually one of those games that unironically run better on wine than on windows. Only on AMD GPUs due to AMD's windows drivers being what they are but still.
