Did they ever un-fuck No Man's Sky or is it still all style and no substance?
No Man's Sky
They added more style
>Boring shit: the game
Whatever happened to the newest expansion? Did it come out yet?
They added a lot of fluff and window dressing. It is better than release but it's still essentially the same concept.
if you like comfy space stuff you'll probably enjoy it. if you are the indulgent type you may even put 30 hours or more into it. i did, but at some point i got tired, currently waiting for the vr update hoping it's gonna be good
If you have never played it and find it for 10 dollers it’s good I’m a bit pissed because they did add more thing to keep it interesting and change it up but I put almost 60 to 70 hours in the base game I really can’t imagine doing that again. I preordered and bought a bigger tv it was such a let down.
It still revolves around grinding. There's a "game" in there, but it's very barebones.
How is VR going to change the gameplay experience?
I enjoy it for what it is. They have surprised me with the amount of support they've given the game after that shitty launch. I've probably put about 100 hours into and have finished all the storylines and made it to the center of two galaxies. It really is a game you can just pick up from time to time and jump in right where you left off
You'd be surprised. VR is just more engaging overall. It makes a shit game like Payday 2 "fun".
I got tired of it after I got 40 hours in, did a lot of the shit and realized the rest of the game is just going to be grinding another 120 warp cells to get to the centre.
The point of the game isn't going to the centre, you brainlet. There's nothing there to gain there anyway.
no gameplay has been shown as of now, so there's no way of telling how. Some reviewer got a preview copy a couple of months ago and said he liked it, but still no gameplay. Personally i'm cautiously optimistic, i think HG is on the way to clearing their name after the launch fiasco, but that's just me.
Either way, it's a comfy game, can be a little tedious, but as i said, if you're into that kind of stuff, you'll probably enjoy it
You shouldn't be calling people names if you spent 100 hours on this shit. And besides what is the point of the game then? Collecting rocks? Building a shitty base?
I feel that, I did something similar and somehow just got the urge to play it again one day. I find it more enjoyable in short bursts because like you said, the grind can be a pain in the ass during long playthroughs. I was lucky enough to farm emerald back before they nerfed the price of it. That made the grind slightly easier.
They also added a mission that gives you a free freighter so that saves you around 80 million
I'm the guy with 100 hours, I didn't call you a brainlet :p
It's got more content now than most AAA games. You need 200+ iq to appreciate this game. It's not for everyone.
If your post wasn't 5 seconds too slow I would have known that! Never mind.
Oh, but Minecraft gets a pass?
Yeah because it's much more flexible and there's much more to do.
>there's much more to do.
like?
Shill me on this.
They added a bunch of filler and crafting, but the core gameplay is still shit
Just play astroneer
Filename says it all. However its still a crafting survival game at its core, it ain't going to make you like it if you don't already. Another description could be that its Space Engineers but there's actual survival gameplay in it instead of it being strictly a ship designing simulator.
they keep updating it and adding free DLC
last year it was multiplayer
this year its underwater world building
who knows whats next
Do you have to buy a VR specific copy? I was gonna buy after a friend said it was much more fun but I dont wanna buy again.
>next
Heh, nicceeeee
Got a used copy for $10 but currently waiting for the VR update, from what I've seen, this game looks like its a blast on VR.
VR has started to be the new "its fun with friends" for me though desu.
Don't fool yourself it's still not close to what we were promised or the pre-release footage. They've been updating it for a half decade now, it's still not good.
it's coming real soon
No Man's Sky is the patrician thinking man's game. Nothing comes close to invoking thoughts around the nature of our own reality.
The only thing I really want out of NMS now is a reason to build bases and fortify. Make base attacks, have NPCs move into houses, give me a reason to call a planet home. Change what I can get depending on planet, biome, if its underwater or not. Also improve underwater biomes and make water planets. I know that would require a universe reset and they're kinda really against that, but I think the underwater stuff needs it to be made so much better, waters are simply too shallow as they are right now.
AFAIK, it's a free update.
you either love it (i love it) or you hate it. there is no in between. as much as i love it, i would never EVER recommend that anyone ever buy it unless you're super fucking curious AND can get it for no more than 15 burgerbucks
I played it for the first time after i heard they fixed it.
It is still ABSOLUTE garbage, do not waste your time
bruh all they need to do is add an option when you start to head to a new galaxy at the core is a pop up asking if you want to go to a NEW type of galaxy aka one with water worlds and shit instead of the next galaxy in the pre-established chain or however it works
I assume craft shit. No Man's Sky is just the mine without the craft. Don't bring up base building either because that's paper thin, clunky garbage.
though what they've done to redeem their game is very admirable the problem lies of it all lies at the core of the gameplay loop.
you've got your inhibiting survival grind with nothing that lies beyond. No unique biomes, no forests, no mountains just an endless repeating checkerboard of hills plains and ponds the variety of being hazardous or non hazardous depending on the planet. with a beacon, crashsite or soulless intergalactic truckstop every half a mile.
>game revolves around moving from planet to planet (which in and of itself falls flat because theres like 5 different types of planet total so youll never see anything new)
>adds base building, static fucking buildings that dont move
does not compute
also freighters still have a gorillion bugs involving making a base on them too
Games actually worse than it was during atlas rises
this game looks gay like Spore.
I'd rather play a space game without a gay wimpy art style.
Alright boys here's what you do in NMS. You get a fucking ship, and you fly around from planet to planet hoping to find one that looks neat. You will, the overwhelming majority amount of time, find planets that look like pure shit, but sometimes you will find one thats pretty neat. In that regard, its strictly an exploration game.
If you don't want to explore, you can build up a fleet of freighters and ships and send them off to do missions that you don't actually interact with much and spend your time building up a massive financial empire of wealth that you use to buy more ships.
If you don't want to do economics, you can do shitty repetitive missions from the mission NPC to raise your standing with the 3 different alien races.
If you don't want to do boring missions, you can complete the game's "story", which involves a lot of running around, and base building.
If you don't want to complete the game's story, you can fly around space and hope to get attacked by pirates so you can fight 1-3 enemy ships for 30 seconds every 5 minutes.
If you don't want to hunt pirates, you could find a decent planet and build a race track to drive land vehicles around on.
If you don't want to fuck around with land vehicles, you could explore planets and scan the same rocks, plants, and animals that you already saw on another planet but have a different name now.
If you don't want to catalog new species of plants and animals, you can land on a planet and start a fight with the robots until they send all three different variants after you until you die.
If none of this sounds somewhat fun to you, don't play the game.
Cool thanks kind user.
Thanks me too
how do I improve the performance of the game?
are there any Yea Forums server/game?
Couple of my screenshots...
PRÖÖÖH :D
It's fine for now, nothing too good or spectacular, they really are sticking with it though, come back in 5 years and maybe you'll have a good cheap game waiting for you.
Wow it almost looks like how it was advertised 4 years ago, based hello games!!
rude
>No Mans Sky thread the day i decide to try it out again
based
How does one make the game look as good as these screenshots posted by this user but also make it run well? Are there any ini changes/mods i need? I already changed my ThreadCount and tried out NoFade but hated the amount of pop-in it created
i run a gtx1080ti but this is also in 4k, runs smooth for me 50 - 70fps.
I bought it today for the VR stuff, is it worth playing RIGHT NOW or should i wait to install it until the update drops?
Stargate
Worth playing right now as theres a lot of content to catch up on with quests and building shit.
can i build a galactic empire in this game yet?
No you can build bases and buy freighters to do missions for you but thats it.
needs moar wings
>The abyss update
Wow finally i'm going to explore alien oceans and terrors and it's going to be scary and cool
>comes out
>every "ocean" planet is the same no deeper than your average lake with the same two eyed jellyfish aliens and schools of fish
>underwater vehicle moves like molasses and controls like shit.
Holy fucking shit i'm still disappointed.
>no different biomes on planets (fucking space engine can do it fuck you)
>every uninhabitable planet is just the same no atmosphere grey desert when there could be uninhabitable hot, freezing, corrosive, poisonous, radioactive ones (much like real life you need not look further than the solar system) but instead a planet that has 340 degrees C on a good day has weird red dogs strolling around and liquid water
>no volcanoes
>no lava
>no frozen oceans
>no gas giants
This was supposed to be my dream game.
I have Reichland which is 20 star systems linked together all with bases
I wish they didn't focus so much on trying to make it an MMO.
