You can though, you can be a Corpo, Nomad, and Street Kids, along with being able to choose or mix between Netrunner, Solo, or Techie. That is 5 of the classes right there in the tabletop core game, many of which can be combined to make a particular character of your choosing.

I think they adapted and made the character customization smart in this game. They turned Corpo, Nomad, and Street Kid into actual background lifepaths that make your identity and start, and turned Solo, Netrunners, and Techies into classes and professions. If you think about it, it makes sense, what stops a Corpo from being a Solo who works for the suits, or a Corpo being a netrunning hacker? What's stopping a Nomad from being a Techie trash finder who builds robots from spare parts?? I think Mike Pondsmith knew this in his influence to the game, and this will most likely be the case in his upcoming new Cyberpunk RED tabletop game when he releases it this August.

They're just life paths. Think of it in terms of Dragon Age. You're going to have unique paths in the beginning where you can be a Nomad, Corpo, and Street Kid, each of which have unique dialogue trees that others can't choose from, and then the story conjoins and diverts once you get the immortality chip.

Yeah V is a Solo, and you choose between multiple skill trees like Hacking Guns, augs and whatever what sort of Solo.

It is really confusing keeping track of what is current since they keep changing it, and since there's very few or any real video game news sites being clear on it. How the fuck are they even going to implement the backgrounds in meaningful and good ways when they added Keanu and made a bunch of changes late in development when the game is playable from start to finish? Unless the childhood heroes selection was already going to have different starting points.

I'm going to wait 6-8 months post release to even consider buying this game while remaining completely oblivious to anything about it other than surface details and judge by the amount of butthurt on Yea Forums if its worth pirating for a test drive to see if its worth buying.

Corpo: mainly stealth and trying to avoid killing or leaving a trace. Doesn't like dealing with scum or changing the terms of the deal.
Street kid: Stealth is only really for ambushing or avoiding anyone who looks too tough. Not so concerned with avoiding bloodshed or having a viable exit plan. Also not concerned about being a backstabbing fuck either.
Nomad: Violence.

Actually this is not entirely true. From what i understand if you have the corporate background you will be able to do some quests with the corporate police and have special interactions with them but since you are a disgraced corpo that's all there is. No joining them(unless there is a corpo ending of the game where you end up permanently working for a corporation again).

Stealth archer, unironically. So probably netrunner for max non-lethal/stealth possibilities and max interesting missable lore dumps/additional paths. I disliked drones in Shadowrun so I'll save techie for last so that leaves solo for 2nd playthrough. As for alliances I'll see where the story/questlines/etc. take me but mainly interested in some chaotic good/neutral do-goodery for lack of a better term, although I doubt it'll be that clear-cut or easily inferrable in this game.

I know but at the very least it's another little thing to help differentiate the playthroughs. Multiple choices/ways to deal with quests offer some RP potential for different archetypes of characters.

Well those are role playing options. Like New Vegas. Through dialogue. And bypassing Meredith and buying the bot yourself is your own choice without dialogue.

In the actual gameplay part you have the option to do non-lethal takedowns even on bosses. One of the play testers of the latest demo said you can even spare the animal final boss. Which is pretty cool.
