I was honestly surprised how much of a difference 1440p was. I used to obsess over anti-aliasing back on 1080p, now I barely need any.

I've not encountered a single recent game that didn't support ultrawide, if not natively then through a simple mod.
Even games as old as Alpha Protocol and Alan Wake work with ultrawide.
It's mainly online multiplayer games that don't support it (because it gives you an advantage) and even then it's only some of them. I can play DBD just find on my ultrawide (though I see less of the top and bottom).

It's the best way to experience RPGs.
The Witcher 3 is a prime example. Even The Witcher 1 runs it natively (but not TW2 oddly enough, but fixed with a mod).
Ghost of a Tale is great with it too.

I love playing games on windowed, provided they allow you to resize the window and move it around.
A lot of games with windowed mode forces the window to stay in the middle of your screen.

What I do with games like Armello or Clue is I resize the window (on my ultrawide monitor I have more space), and I put them on one side of the screen, then next to it I have my internet browser open, and below the game screen I have a movie playing. Since games like Armello/Clue are turn based anyway with a lot of downtime in between turns, I can browse Yea Forums and watch a movie while simultaneously playing the game. You can do the same with a multiscreen setup, but since I have an ultrawide monitor I just do that.

Oh and the game can't be too demanding of course.

Reminder 1440p is literally the best option since both the monitors and cards that can push this spec aren't outrageously priced and they can comfortably do well over 60hz AND HDR
4k144 (or even just 4k60) is a meme that still costs an arm and a leg, plus current displays standards (HDMI and DP) literally do not have the required bandwidth to do HDR and 60+hz together so current first gen 4k144hz monitors that costs thousands have to use shitty compressed 4:2:2 chroma subsampling

AMD cards barely have any noticeable impact with HDR (2%) whereas nvidia have a larger impact (10%)

I play games at 1080p now but resolution doesn't matter to me as long as the game looks okay. Modern games ideally I'll play 720p or up, otherwise it's a complete non-issue. Stylization > resolution all day.

1080p/60hz is the g-spot for gaming imo. I have a 4k monitor and a $2600 PC and I only use 120hz for my desktop (I love that buttery smooth mouse motion, forgive me). Anything higher than 1440p/60hz is just taxing your hardware for very little visual benefit.

The one good thing about it is that when it's well-supported, HUD elements can effectively stay off the typical 16:9 playing area entirely (especially for UI- heavy genres like RPGs and strategy games). Ultrawide is a QoL preference and nothing more.
