Autochess games are just elaborate slot machines.
Prove me wrong.
Autochess games are just elaborate slot machines.
Prove me wrong.
I dunno man, slot machines are pretty elaborate these days
I can't.
wtf is an autochess game?
IT'S A SURPRISE MECHANIC REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
You're not wrong.
The "genre" is boring as fuck.
So this is the next meme genre?
>dont know what auto chess is
>dont care either
>Autochess
That's just flipping a fucking coin isn't it? What the fuck.
most of today's popular multi-player games can be boiled down into being 'elaborate slot machines' as much as auto-chess can, if you want to be like that
So it seems. What are all the meme genres anyway? I can only remember
>Battle Royale
>Early Access Survival Horror
>Sandbox
Comes from a mod of Valve's Defense of the Ancients game.
As far as I can tell, you have an empty chessboard an an allowance of Gold. You use gold to buy Pieces that you put on your half of the board while the other half is hidden. When both players are done placing, the pieces spring to life and start fighting until one side is destroyed. Strategy comes from winning by the slimmest margin possible because unspent gold gains compound interest. You win by dealing enough damage to your opponent after their pieces are all killed. Pieces do stuff like clone themselves, damage adjacent spaces, move to the back of the enemy formation, etc
Slots are gambling games where you win by chance (and a bit of strategy). AutoChess is primarily a strategy game with an element of chance that you can win consistently with a good strategy. The burden of proof is on YOU to argue why chance matters more.
mugman is so goofy man lmao just look at him
Yeah, RNG bullshit with no skill at all.
Depends on how you define meme genre. Space shooters yielded to platformers and platformers yielded to brown and bloom shooters, but those were very long periods between transitions and I can't really pick out anything in between
I dont know about all of them but the DOTA one feels like an RNG game. Like, player agency isn't nearly as essential as luck. I don't get the appeal./
I kinda feel like I missed out on a lot of bonding with my NEET friends during the survival meme genre.
You forgot ASSFAGGOTS
>that you can win consistently with a good strategy
lmao no
ASSFAGGOTS for sure.
It’s easy to prove you’re wrong. Watch any decent streamer play an autochess game, they win at a rate noticeably higher than random chance
Why are all of you so wilfully ignorant about the strategic element in the game? You're not going to win just by randomly putting pieces around the board; you have to actually think about your build, positioning, and even earnings from winning/losing streaks (yes, sometimes it's better to deliberately throw several games in a row for a better payout and recovery).
>Spoonfeeding
I’ve never played one because I hate trends
Moba
>Streamers
>can win consistently
Yeah, no. I've had series of games where I alternated between 1st place and 8th place based on what I got in the slot machine.
>(yes, sometimes it's better to deliberately throw several games in a row for a better payout and recovery).
So....a coin flip. This is literally the basis of slot machines, are you being daft?
Wait this sounds really familiar. Wasn't this a thing back in the day under a different name?
I have never actually played it. This is coming from a few forum posts and the Dunkey video.
"Survival" Minecraft games like Rust or Subnautica.
>already defense force initiated
people are fucking ferocious when it comes to defending trends. I thought BR defense during PUBG was bad
Let's hope this doesn't take off
If I consistently win more games than I lose, then I consistently win, period. Or do you need a guaranteed victory to make things 'fair'?
Leave, you grumbling boomer.
Leave, bottom-feeder
There were a few mods like Footman Frenzy that were about AI armies fighting, but those were more about players grooming the battles in progress. AFAIK this one is entirely about setup and you cant do shit once fighting starts.
Remember how a decade and half ago a bunch of subhumans foubd Warcraft 3 too hard and decided to play a heavily dumbed down versions of it? Well now they did to it what they did to Warcraft 3 back then.
Then all that thinking, positioning, and earnings management gets thrown out the window when the slot machine fucks you over.
>Early Access multiplayer survival game with crafting
>ASSFAGGOTS
>hero shooter
>______ simulator
This still doesn't prove there's a lot of skill to be had, just that there is a clear meta
It's obviously RNG-reliant but you're not going to say that strategy doesn't matter in poker and mahjong either, are you?
I've been playing tft for less than a week and I'm already getting tired of it, I don't think this fad will last long
Nigger you don't get position shit in chess you both start with the same spots.
shut the fuck up
I'm , do you read posts closely before replying to them? I'm not downplaying the strategic gameplay, quite the opposite. I'm saying, if you want to call Auto-Chess a slot machine, then almost all games that are popular these days are slot machines
Getting top 3 is easy to do so long as you aren't completely fucked. The retards are weeded out by then, however, whoever wins late game is going to be decided by luck.
For example, the slot machine can give you 3 identical cards at once, which is going to boost your power significantly if they are high tier or fit your current loadout.
dota auto battlers please go an hero together with gatcha shit crowd
The skill of autochess is how you deal with bad rng when you get it
it's already too late
Bad RNG means you can't upgrade your heroes. You can't win without upgraded heroes, period.
Which mod with severe skill gap compression is going to become the next big trend after autochess?
>a game requiring forethought, strategy and team building is equivalent to a literal coin toss
Even slot machines aren't as random as a ckin toss and can be manipulated somewhat. Go pound glass up your ass.
>Autochess games
literally who
>team building
Excuse me, how do you build a good team when your heroes are based on RNG?
Like, I've had a game of dota underlords where I started with the Inventors item buff, then didn't get a single Inventor in the slot machine until 25 rounds later.
There is definitely a large element of decision making to it, unlike a slot machine, You need to plan out your economy, know when to take risks to roll, when to boost your level, and what units and synergies to take to counter the opponents you scope out to be the big threats without going into a team comp too many other players are already committing to to avoid being cut.
It’s more of a deck builder game really.
As for proving you wrong, there are elements other than rng in the game, such as when to spend gold leveling up, when to throw fights to save up money and when to spend to secure your winstreak.
Or you could be a reductive asshole and say it’s all range in which case any card based game or game with rng is just slot machines.
Does Dominions count as autochess? I mean, there have been other games where you just pick your units, define their behavior and then watch the battle.
And what strategy to you suggest when the slot machine doesn't allow you to upgrade any heroes?
>put gacha units on board
>watch them fight
>RNG decides if your pieces are better than your opponent's, if it isnt, you lose.
>stupid people get good RNGs early on and get hooked on buying more and more gacha units while they think they're getting better when in reality they're just throwing money away
Yep sounds like a good scam to me
No wonder its getting big
You really cant trust the average consumer after all.
:^)
That pretty much never happens unless you're too late. If you bank losing streaks early then at 50 you need to aggressively re-roll for a line up as other players will have bought up pieces to fill their board.
Autochess is like playing a card game like Hearthstone but you draft your deck in the middle of the game rather than before. You build your deck around what you draft and can change depending on what is available later in the match.
It's basically a spreadsheet simulator. You follow a flowchart based on what is good at the time and watch the game play out. It's a perfect zoomer game because it requires very very little attention to play.
>pretty much never happens
Depends on your luck, doesn't it?
Does every player have access to the same pieces?
No, it's draw 5 random cards you find a match you take, you don't you don't take. Whoever gets the best matches while not building like a nigger wins.
Button clicker sim, but every button click is a random number of points so even slowbies can sometimes win.
So if another player happens to get multiples of tier 5 cards, and you get absolutely none, you're fucked.
The dlc got delayed, didn't it?
>play League autochess
>have no idea what I'm going but get third cause the two guys with dragons burp all over my team and wipe them
>get bored
I think this is pretty much a new meme like card shit. It's basically a deckbuilder.
10 dollars says Blizzard is in on this before summer is out.
I reckon this one will only last a few months. God knows what the next meme will be. I just want to understand how this shit gets popular.
Yes as in there's one pool of pieces to draw from
Like 10 copies of every legendary unit, if someone took them all you can't get that unit anymore
Maybe you're just garbage
Blizz/Activision is desperate for money, so of course they will.
It will be just like their failed MOBA and it will have heroes from all the franchises people wish they made games for, and of course put it on mobile with microtransactions.
PUBG is a good game
So is Fortnite
Nah. It's far too complex for most people.
>I just want to understand how this shit gets popular.
Have you tried playing one of the games
How does that explain the wins then? If I'm garbage and the game isn't based on RNG, I should be losing every game.
>How does that explain the wins then?
Because you're playing in trash ranks and the others are just as garbage as you are
It's addicting, just like slot machines are.
PUBG is "who has the better optics for sniping", the game.
Apex is better in virtually every way.
The whole genre is trash though.
Early Access Survival Crafting Multiplayer game
Speaking of which have any of these EVER released fully day one?
>streamers
Sorry I'm not a faggot
I'm making an autochess game at the moment. My game development analysis, compared to other genres, is that it's a mix between tactical JRPGs and roguelikes, where player agency is manifested at a strategic level.
As far as game development is concerned, they are actually pretty easy to implement. The greatest challenge is unit AI and movement.
I've been playing a bit of Dota Underlords and what attracts me the most to this style of game is how much the player needs to adapt to the situation. Autochess games are a little like an advanced form of poker. You are dealt a selection of cards and choose what you need for your builds, with the resources you have available. Because there is also a limited pool, you need to be aware of what your opponents are doing, so you don't run out of card combinations.
I actually like the RNG elements of the game. No two matches are the same and you can't make a cookie cutter build that will win all the time. You need to adapt to your opponents and build to counter with what you have. If you get shafted by RNG you need to save your resources and wait for the right time to counter build.
With a little bit more player agency during the battle phase, I think it could become a very good genre.
Some info and differences about my own game:
- 12 players per match split into 4 teams of 3 - so it's a cooperative autochess
- players choose to travel to nodes to capture objectives, which give resources
- objectives spawn copies of the players army and send them to adjacent nodes to fight other players or copies of their armies
- 3 traits per unit
- duplicate unit's traits stack
- larger units take up more board space
- scissors/paper/rock mechanics between units (think cavalry/infantry/archers)
- more agency in battles (can't control the army directly, but players can generally guide what the army does. ie. target certain groups, maintain certain formation etc.)
I'll upload a demo in about 3 months on steam.
I mean yeah they are
They are gacha games
Used to play clash royale
pretty much this desu
Seems like it.
I wonder how many years that one will take to fade away...
>advanced form of poker
stopped reading there
>autochess is pure rng you just rely on the luck of the draw for characters
>magic the gathering? Now that's a game of pure skill
Hmm
The skill in MTG is deckbuilding and the games deal with more than just a single hand.
Autochess lacks depth.
Lol there it is
Autochess doesn't allow strategy early on because there are so many peaces in the pool and so many players that piece scarcity is not relevant. You have to go for one of the 2-3 things that are not trash early.
Autochess does not allow strategy in the mid game because it's more or less chosen for you by the pieces you are lucky enough to get 3 of.
Autochess does not allow strategy in the end game because you can only try to transition into the 2-3 good late game comps composed of high star pieces with AOE stun.
It's a game very good at tricking you into thinking you're playing it. But in actually you're just rolling the dice for the same shit as the other dorks.
>hehe there's nothing to it but rolling the dice kiddo
>unit placement? How is that relevant in a chess game kiddo hehe
I don't even play MTG, you're just dumb as fuck. The last card game I participated in was fucking Yugioh in 8th grade, and I don't know if I even ever played a proper match.
No matter how well constructed your deck is you could get screwed by rng every single time. Mtg is a pure luck game
No one brought up MTG. You did.
I don't like MTG or autochess games for their randomness.
Show me a game without any random
If you can draw a hand of only bricks, your deck probably isn't good in the first place.
Without the amount of mana in a 60 card deck that's easily rng-able
Chess
You can become top 10 in any battle royal by just hiding, doesn't mean you are any good.
For autochess just pick units that work well together and you'll already be better than 50% of the other players that don't know shit, no skill involved, literally just look at a tier list.
>- 12 players per match split into 4 teams of 3 - so it's a cooperative autochess
Stopped reading there, fuck other people.
>poker doesn't require skill because it's random
what the fuck is chess
It really doesn't if you can't bluff or see the other players.
based
poker is more about bluffing and knowing your opponent's tells
it takes skill if you play in person
I say again, if you brick out turn one, your deck is probably bad.
My bad, I replied to the wrong post.
This. If your deck has so much junk you keep getting completely shit hands, trim it so you always have a good chance of drawing something decent. It's your fault you don't understand probabilities; play Slay the Spire if you really want to learn the basics of deck-construction without 'RNG bullshit'.
I call it a slot machine because it has a literal slot machine mechanic in it. You get a free spin every round at the random hero slot machine and pay two gold for extras.
