After the retarded faggotry that was the final season of Game of Thrones, I have an insatiable itch for some proper Tolkienesque fantasy. Please give me some recommendations. Bonus points for strategy games.

Why post the Hound? His scenes were the only good parts of Season 8, and his death was the only decent one.
As someone who is only a book faggot, what happened in the last season?
Cause he's my favorite and I want a game based on him
There's too much to even list, but seasons 6, 7 and 8 were a culmination of bad writing, forgetting about character arcs and just bizarre shit that doesn't make sense within the context of the show
Total War Warhammer. Age of Wonders 3
Pathfinder kingmaker
Ghost of a Tale.
It's more Redwall than Tolkien but they descend from the same tradition of chivalric romance.
Why is he doing the soiboy face
That said, season 6 had two of the best episodes in the entire series. You could tell George's influence was still there. And yet in seasons 7 and 8, it was vacant. Seasons 7 and 8 went for cheap tricks and thrills akin to boring, content-less, trope-filled Hollywood movies like the current superhero phenomenon.
Soon.
I have that installed.
why haven't I touched it yet?
Lego Lord of the Rings is genuinely the best LotR game ever made.
Battle for Middle-Earth is still good after all these years.
>forgetting Jorah
Jorah ad a good death too, he went down redeeming himself and protecting the one thing he cared about and his Queen, "Here I Stand", while basically single-handledly fighting the Night King's army by himself fucking twice. He was a Knight.
Jorah and The Hound were the only good parts of the final season.
Jorah appeared the fuck out of nowhere. His appearance made no sense. How did he cross an entire battlefield that's supposed to be swarmed and encircled with the dead?
His death is emblematic of some of the worst problems of season 8. And Dany even held him and used him as a fucking meat shield too. Besides, his death was cheapened when Dany went mad for no reason
Because Jorah cut his way through them, he went back out there once he saw Dany land. As for Dany going mad, her story was always going to culminate in that, even the books paint that picture clear. The issue was with the pacing with it, Jorah was needed in that moment, he died in that moment doing what he was meant to do. That's a good death. What happened after wasn't his fault, yes had he been alive he could have tempered Dany and she'd have likely been fine, but that's part of the tragedy now isn't it. As for using him as a meat shield, she didn't at all, what are you talking about, he literally shoved her out of the way and took the blows.
I felt the same away after watching the retarded faggotry that was the FIRST EPISODE of Game of Thrones.
>That arc where John Snow travels back in time to save half of the Red Weddings victims.
Shut up faggot the first episode was kino
It was cringe af hon
Witcher.
>hon
Oh god, do people still do that passive aggressive shit? Grow up and be aggressive like a normal person instead of a snarky middle-aged valley girl that never grew up.
On Yea Forums being passive agressive is more offensive than being agressive
>hon
:)
Why the fuck were you watching Game of Thrones for tolkienesque fantasy in the first place?
Who ended up winning the Cleganebowl?
Nah, it's called being bitch. Anyway, you keep doing you I suppose, I got other shit to do.
Have fun sweaty
>Season 1 has a scene specifically where Jorah mogs the sandniggers because of his fancy plate armour
>shitty undead wigth sword cuts through his now even fancier plate armour
He was wearing leather armor during the Long Knight, it's stupidly obvious, also before you ask, Plate freezes pretty easy and becomes a problem in cold weather.
Its no surprise that Dany went mad -- it's been telegraphed pretty well. And like you said, the issue is with pacing, but also with cause. There was no cause, no incentive for her to snap in that moment.
And I'm sorry but Jorah could not have covered that sort of ground in that short of time. She landed far away from Winterfell, and he arrives second later. Scenes show the white walkers washing over the soliders like a tsunami, and then all of a sudden Jorah mows his way through an entire army of them to get to Dany? Come the fuck.
And yes she absolutely DID use him as a meat shield. Watch the scene again. At one part she grabs him and swings him around to take a blow for her.
OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOHHHHHH
It was a draw but the Hound bested him in combat
fuck you, this shouldn't have made me laugh
Jorah literally shoves her out of the way with his left arm to take that blow, and some time had passed for him to fight his way back through. Which again is a pacing issue. The man fought his entire way back from the initial onslaught, I think he'd be fine fighting back to get to Dany, it's just poorly paced.
I'm a brainlet that has never beat a From game but this has potential to be God tier
Shadow Of War.
I feel like a lot of faggots say this about anything.
>appeared the fuck out of nowhere
The whole set-up was fucking stupid.
>be on a dragon
>in the air
>can breathe fire
>want to help Jon
>could do strafe runs, or just hover for a bit, like she did multiple times already that episode
>instead lands, lets Jon go, and sits around like a fucking mong until 50 zombies have climbed on
>falls off because the dragon is tired of her being fucking stupid and bolts
>conveniently close to Jorah who decided to leave the fighting because he heard her flying overhead 10 minutes ago and deduces that it means shes in trouble, even though she wasn't at the time, and even though she was flying the whole time anyways
It also doesn't help that the only competent costume designer was eaten by a lion in africa halfway through the series.
Is this true
He said he wanted proper Tokienesque fantasy.
GODS what a game this was
Just turn your brain off bro lmao
It was a visual editor.
Why would I play this when I could play AoE II
>there to save nature
>gets killed by it
Because AoE2 isn't fantasy, and they're actually radically different games?
Damn that sucks, imagine just wanting to take pictures of a lion leaning of a vehicle and the thing lunges and rips out your throat. I imagine that Lion must have been starving to go at a car and try to leap at the window though.
Sad, had some good movies behind her too.
A Lannister always pays their debts.
Battle for Wesnoth
OH NO NO NO NO
>Its no surprise that Dany went mad -- it's been telegraphed pretty well.
Sort of? Kind of? Dany was always presented as a petulant brat but always one that cared about people. Even if from her own ego. She spent seasons preaching about caring for the little guy and saying how she doesn't want to be queen of the ashes. And all through S1 through S7 she's only ever targeted people actively against her. Oh she executed people? Yeah so did Ned Stark and he's the most honorable man in the solar system.
Of course they realized that she's supposed to go crazy before the end so they had to load ALL of her character breakdown into a single season where she threw a tantrum because people liked Jon more than her.
>get bit on the shoulder and the lioness jumps back
>didn't try to roll the window up as fast as possible
She'd have lived otherwise.
>all those little girls out there named Daenerys or Khaleesi
If you weren't rock hard when Dany torched the city you're a faggot
Why the sudden drop with 8 and not 6 or 7? That just shows that viewers are retards.
fucking kek
If you read the news stories about it, it wasn't even like she just went full retard next to a pack of lions. The driver offered to show her "a good spot" and once they got there, he rolled down his window to show it was fine. So she followed suit and rolled hers down.
>Mr Govender said that at first the male and female lions did not seem interested - and that the lioness stood up 'without warning'.
>He said: 'It was terrifying. After the first bite the lioness retreated from the car with blood dripping from her mouth and paw. We all thought she was done and didn’t like what she’d just bitten. But then like someone in a temper that wasn’t satisfied in a fight, she leaped back into the car and mauled the passenger."
And the fucking driver during this?
>'But then the lioness lunged and we saw the driver diving into the passenger seat and punching at the lioness.'
>Mr Govender said it appeared to him the driver did not have a chance to drive off or close the window.
Instead of closing the window or driving off, he just tries to smack at it. Big wonder he 'didn't have a chance'.
Viewers are retards and most of them loved Dany because YAAS QUEEN BURN THEM ALL
I could not even have been a hunger thing.
the Lioness might have been protecting cubs or her self from a perceived threat.
there is a reason the rules are "dont get out of the vehicle"
>GoT only went bad in the final season
lol
just lol
Take every character. Make them do the opposite of what their character arc is about, except Jorah and the hound. There you have it.
Braindead normies are behind the curve. In fact, the first 3 episodes of season 8 were rated a strong 8.5 or so for weeks after airing and have only gone down in hindsight after they got butthurt over the rest of the season sucking even more. The damage control was strong when Yea Forums and other shrewd viewers were calling out The Long Night for the garbage fire it was, journos and #DemThrones were having none of that. Normies only turned against the series after Daenerys was undeniably demonstrated to not only be fallible, but incredibly flawed.
>and his death was the only decent one.
>dies because of a fight that was completely contrary to his entire character arc
>good
CK2, HOI IV, and Warband are all strategy games with great fantasy mods. I'll list my favorite mods for each.
>cK2
The GOT /song of ice and fire mod
>HOI IV
The MLP mod is actually amazing, though not tolkein fantasy
>Warband
There actually is a LOTR mod. Pretty fun too.
>leather
>surrounded by fire
>plate freezes pretty easy
please man. and Dany also killed several wights without effort despite never being trained with a sword
>getting that far
how? it was absolutely unbearable by session 5
I was too busy knowing it was retarded and didn't make any sense and that they specifically chose a chain of events that would make sure there was absolutely no reason for her to do that when they have made it slightly less retarded in so many ways.
>The MLP mod is actually amazing, though not tolkein fantasy
Nothing happens in the first episodes so it makes sense people were not too mad.
When they could have*
Gothic 1 and 2
You can try 3 with the community patches as well but it's quite different
>MLP mod
should have dropped that hard during season 5
KEK
>The MLP mod is actually amazing
>The MLP mod is actually amazing,
can't believe you faggots are still around
go back and rewatch it. she has always hidden behind good ideals and circumstance.

Again these were explicitly her enemies and those that would do her harm. Viserys had every intention on letting his sister spend her life being raped by horse people in exchange for an army. And she also has the right to kill people killing her soldiers. Noble people have killed for far less. No she wasn't perfect, she was a bitch half of the time which is why I thought Tyrion was there to temper that until the writers decided that dicks were evil so Tyrion became a drooling retard overnight.
That's why I said they had to load all of her crazy into one season. If we had time to watch her react to a land where no one likes or trusts her and all her good will went unappreciated AND the fact that suddenly the her reasoning for wanting the throne actually supported Jon more than her, it might have been fine. Because we would've seen her actually struggling with this information. Maybe she should've stayed in Essos. Maybe Tyrion was right. But all of this shit has to happen in 4 fucking episodes. And the reason for her claim being threatened amounted to nothing because other than 4 people no one even fucking knows about it.
>Tolkienesque
Explain what you mean by this gay, stupid word and maybe I have a good one for you
Glad I named mine Goku
medieval fantasy bullshit for children and manchildren, regardless if it's edgy medieval fantasy bullshit for manchildren like GoT.
en.wikipedia.org
Not just an Age thing
>Khaleesi
Which basically means concubine or fancy whore, never mind the fact it's a made up fantasy word nobody will recognize decade or two down the line.
Hilarious.
George is a fucking hack and nothing will tell me otherwise. GoT was always shit.
To be fair, so is tolkien's work.
Sean Bean and Mark Addy though
To be fair, you're completely wrong and also a faggot
>man who criticizes Tolkien for not doing what Tolkien knew would make LotR impossible to finish ends up creating a book series thats impossible to finish
Pottery
absolute shit taste
His death blew ass. That entire fight felt like fanfiction and completely undermined his character arc.
Stale and obvious bait
Pathetic
>Tolkien knew would make LotR impossible to finish
what is that?
You big dummy
Too many cooks in the kitchen. Bringing in a well known author who has no clue about video games doesn't mean he'll be able to add anything substantial. It'll be just like every other fromsoft game. Hopefully, anyway, because the trailer was stupid.
he's just wrote the mythos, his work is already over and it has basically nothing to do with video games
The masses are idiots, more new at 11.
It's childish fantasy bullshit just like any other, diet popcorn of literature.
but you haven't read the books, so how do you know?
>this is what my professor told me aren't I smart and educated?
>but you haven't read the books
On what grounds you assume this?
Metal Wolf Chaos soon my good buddy.
Your posts carry that implication
on the grounds of you not being able to recognize the immense dedication and talent of Tolkien. not liking it is fine, tastes vary. but saying it's bad is just fucking ridiculous based on the vastly detailed and cohesive world he built
>I did begin a story placed about 100 years after the Downfall, but it proved both sinister and depressing. Since we are dealing with Men it is inevitable that we should be concerned with the most regrettable feature of their nature: their quick satiety with good. So that the people of Gondor in times of peace, justice and prosperity, would become discontented and restless — while the dynasts descended from Aragorn would become just kings and governors — like Denethor or worse. I found that even so early there was an outcrop of revolutionary plots, about a centre of secret Satanistic religion; while Gondorian boys were playing at being Orcs and going around doing damage. I could have written a 'thriller' about the plot and its discovery and overthrow — but it would have been just that. Not worth doing.
Fantasy is fantasy.
of course, what the fuck is your point? what says fantasy is inherently bad? you're just saying the books are bad because you personally don't like the genre
Tolkien is the Seinfeld of medieval fantasy. It's easy to look back and fault a pioneer because they've been so influential you immediately recognize all the tropes.
I don't give nearly as much of a shit about worldbuilding as I do characters and story, so I'm not much of a fan of LotR, but you have to give credit where credit is due. The man could wordlbuild.
>what says fantasy is inherently bad?
College professors
so basically he kept his stories as fantasies and not a shitty retelling of the real world like got?
Working out the details of Aragorn's tax policies.
Harboring fantasies is bad, inherently.
The Witcher 2 and 3 are probably the closest you'll get in terms of a fully fleshed out world.
youtube.com
The early seasons where Hound is traveling about Westeros feels a lot like Geralt on his travels.
lol why?
GODS I love that quote from the History and Lore.
Age of Wonders series.
lmao
I still find it fucking hilarious how one of the most famous writers of our time can't comprehend high fantasy. Such a fucking hack.
>Sansa rape ep got review bombed
Lol
People voting seasson 6 or 7 over seasson 1 & 2 makes you think
Isn't it self-evident? It distracts you from reality. It's a waste, through and simple.
For being so big about taxes, I don’t recall Martin ever talking about it.
Like what will be Bran the Broken’s tax policy?
Take your whack philosophy and preach it on a board that's not about fucking video games
>it's not real, therefore it's bad
holy shit what a retarded pseud you are
>distracts from reality
the fuck do you mean by this? it's not supposed to be reality, that's the point
Shadow of War is pretty good as long as you allow it to not be a lord of the rings game. I hope they made another one with some more polish.
>history of the orcs so you can see that this nigga killed you, got shamed, went berserk when you killed his brother, killed another orc in the pits etc
>nemesis system for the gondorians. you can choose to command gondor soldiers or orcs hoards
>way to train or breed orcs to have traits you want
>make fighting pits less coinflippy
>make it more lore friendly
>it's not supposed to be reality, that's the point
And that's why it's inherently harmful.
Tell me what lasting gain is there in investing yourself to (intricate) make-believe. I say none.
Get Warband and get one of the various fantasy mods for it. There's the 2 GoT ones, the LOTR one, the really good Warhammer one, Perisno, etc.
Where do you think you are?
>way to train or breed orcs to have traits you want
>make fighting pits less coinflippy
great, now I want an ork pokemon game
Battle For Middle Earth 2 is exactly what you want.
>that's why it's inherently harmful
if you're schizophrenic and can't recognize reality maybe, yeah
can you just make a fucking argument and explain HOW it harms anything?
Play Dominions 5.
Warband's Last Days mod is by far the LOTR game I like best, really highly recommended.
So let's do away with all forms of entertainment then as they contribute nothing to our lives and are a complete waste of time.
Play The Elder Scrolls games. They're like Tolkien, but better. Trust me, I am a King.
MWAAAAHAA THE ELDEN RING
>Jorah ad a good death too, he went down redeeming himself and protecting the one thing he cared about and his Queen,
And then her incestuous lover killed her like, a week later anyway.
If anything, his death was pointless and did nothing but prolong the inevitable.
In fact, I'd argue that had he not been there, a lot less people would have been dead by the end, all said and done.
Hell, you probably would have ended up with a happier ending.
Dany would have been dead, through no fault of anyone but her own dragon and a zombie.
This means the unsullied would have nobody to be pissed at except an enemy that no longer existed after that night. They'd either fuck off because their patron is dead or swear themselves to John's army because it would have been what their Misha wanted.
This would have left John Snow a pair of dragons, since they both liked him, and even if Drogon fucked off with Dany's body, he would have still had the one that accepted him as a rider.
He could have accomplished the same thing Dany did but without slaughtering all of those civilians afterward. King's Landing.
Jorah's existence at Winterfell ironically ruined everything for everyone because he was a White Knighting loser who died for an incest fetishist turbo thot mad queen who kept denying him pussy year after year but he kept giving her everything despite her regularly treating him like shit.
Jorah was the king of the beta male orbiters and saving Dany was his biggest mistake in both life and death.
based
I'm on a video game discussion board, witnessing men in their prime ruining their life.
There is pleasure to be found in living virtuous, productive life Only those who live wrong need dedicated entertainment.
Just play Mount & Blade. There's even a ASOIAF mod.
BRUH CLEGANEBOWL even though the entire point of the hound's arc was that he was trying to get away from all the stupid pointless fighting, the knightly society and his brother. seeing his retarded, monstrous brother turned into a literal retarded monster should've been all the catharsis he needed, instead he goes and throws his life away for no reason despite everyone on his travels telling him to give up his life of fighting. d&d somehow found a way to be predictable and subvert expectations in a really shitty way at the same time
What an embarrassing specimen you are, really. You're saying entertainment is inherently harmful, but you cannot provide a single argument. You just spout drivel and projections to cope with the fact that you're an unproductive person yourself, and you desperately need an unique philosophy to justify your existence.
>witnessing men in their prime ruining their life.
As you waste away pursuing this hedonistic folly.
How do normies just watch this shit
It seems so boring but it's all they talk about
Honestly, I can't even describe it. It's just so contrary to what everything has been set up as. Almost every character goes against their own intentions multiple times for no real reason, and there's just no actual logic.
you have never read a book
>Tolkienesque
If you mean actually like Tolkien and not just the generic fantasy genre that came after him, Dark Souls 1, hands down. Closest I've ever seen a vidya come to the lovely melancholy of LOTR/Simarillion. The world WILL end eventually, as in Middle-Earth, but the meaning is found in how you spend the time you have and the role you're given. Ultimately Tolkien's mythos has a more positive outlook because it has a legit deity in Iluvatar and Dark Souls' is ambiguous about that.
And even if you just mean generic fantasy, Dark Souls will do.
>you desperately need an unique philosophy
It's an observation.
Pillars of eternity. I myself just got done with wasteland 2 and am starting with pathfinder kingmaker today. Wasteland= 120 hours long, latter is 160 hours.
No, it isn't. Know why? Because you cannot make an argument to save your life.
>entertainment is bad because I say so
What do you base this on? Seriously, TRY to make an argument, please.
this isn't a good troll but you're getting a surprising number of (you)'s. congrats
He can't because what he's doing right now is entertainment to him. He's baiting you.
You didn't read either.
holy shit what the fuck
the hound's arc was butchered HARD. how can you be so bad at deciphering motivations and subtext. his whole arc was about him trying to find a purpose in life besides risking his life for shit causes and killing shit. first he had one with arya, then he had one as a monk, then he thinks "nah nevermind" and just goes for a suicide mission to kill his brother for no reason. he didn't even want to kill his brother at the tournament when he could've very easily tried to. all he wanted was to get away from kings landing, shit kings and his shit brother
He's a big guy. Some of the best scenes in the show.
I was a fag and got an English degree, but you're still a retard who doesn't read
teach english in japan
thronebreaker
>sjw shit
No thanks sweatie
underrated
the fuck was the deal with the house quotes anyways? they were all nonsensical and honestly really campy
what you quoted wasn't a house quote though :)
it practically was because it was repeated all the time and was more known than their actual quote
