A level where you traverse a poisonous swamp and into a haunted house. This is the third level I've made just now and I wanted to try something new. It has a rising swamp, some puzzles and a Crash Bandicoot firefly style section. All feedback is appreciated!
Redid this level with some advice from a few anons. Still looking for critiques.
I made a level with a similar theme on MM1. At the time, that was the level I was the most proud of due to how difficult it was.
Now here in MM2 I've done a similar stage with the same theme, but I've upped the difficulty by a little bit... heh

I'm hoping as the Boo! and Like system comes into effect the quality filtering kicks in a bit for playing Endless Challenge. Currently it's an unplayable mess on Normal, either "ride a car through 1 million coins" easy or "LMAO didn't you realize there was a key hidden at the beginning? and now you're softlocked" hard.

The boss at the end far more difficult than fit the theme of the level, I think. I died several times to it before figuring out the winning strategy of "don't use the platforms at all", but that was kind of incongruent with the rest of the level.
Made a comfy snow town level, it's a red coin hunt. Not too difficult to find them all, main challenge is a platforming section in a spooky basement. You can go inside all the buildings too
Ice blocks and that other block I can't remember the name of will break from bob-ombs, charged super clown car shots and that spiky piston thing.

Used feedback from last night to adjust the level. There was accidentally a dev door, I have since moved that door to make it impossible to cheese the thwomp section. I've added coins to the thwomp section to help you gauge where to adjust on the thwomp, and overall made the thwomp section easier.

unironically the absolute fucking best dark-based level I've seen. Cool design and atmosphere, and I like how you use the dark to make things in the light look dangerous instead of "lol something touched you that you couldn't see fuck you" like most people do. 10/10.

It seems like you have two extra uses of the on/off switch, if I'm not mistaken. If you're fast, you can use your last use to get the key, which will trigger the p-switch, but you have enough time to get to the door. Was that intentional? I followed you for more puzzles
Nice course. Felt like it needed a tad more medium tier difficulty though. First 80 percent is ez pz and then those last two sections can catch you off guard out of nowhere if you don't think to vinejump constantly. But really great and comfy level. I always love the boss themeing

it was okay, but it felt a little off, like it should have been using the sky tileset or something.
Whoever made Forest Frenzy, I beat it. I was okay with everything up until the chompers near the end, for whatever reason I could NOT go into that fuckin pipe until I lucked out after like eight minutes. It pissed me off so bad cause I wanted to claim first to finish but then some guy did it in three and a half minutes. It's not a bad level, but I feel like the chompers and the razor thin margin you need to fit in that pipe is just too much of a jump even from the rest of the difficulty. Not gonna boo or like it, but man. I'm mostly upset with myself.
Hot off the press, spent the better part of today working on this level. I took what you guys suggested on my other level and made this. Let me know what you guys think

Fucking AMAZING course. Best I've played to date. Loved getting glimpses at the cremation via firelight and how the "story" progressed to the end. The darkness was used perfectly, no bullshit at all just using it as a legitimate unnerving tool.

I can see it.
King Boo acts like the Dark Boo from Super Princess Peach, which means he chases you while you are looking at him and cowers when your back is turned. He can also spit blue fireballs at you.
Petey acts like he does in NSMB, trying to fly above Mario and dive attack from the air, but landing causes him to slip, leaving him vulnerable.
King Bob-Omb throws Bob-Ombs and will occasionally throw a quick barrage of lit Bob-Ombs. He can't be jumped on.
Gooper Blooper's body is mainly in the background (so it would be 3DW exclusive), and will try to slam its tentacles down on platforms. They will remain for a brief moment after, during which they can be attacked to damage Gooper. He can also cover a limited area in ink, giving the ground ice physics for a bit.

For the Thwomp one, you need to make the Thwomp move to the right. If the Thwomp hits a wall, it will rewind back until it collides with another wall. That's when you'll need to drop a POW block on top of the Thwomp. The arrows later on help show when to hit the Switch block.
Yeah I unfortunately noticed it far too late. Doesn't seem like every person plays it that way though so I guess it's an option.

Bit Crusade 3 is the sequel to the two full games (1-1 to 8-4) I created within Mario Maker 1, reminiscent of traditional Mario levels. Meant to be played in sequence as an adventure game, starting at the 1-1. There's secrets to find, alternative pathways and other goodies as well. Try to find all 5 Power Pepperonis hidden in each stage to access the super secret bonus room at the end of each level.

But that one vehicle at the start you need to pipe through... I didn't realise you needed to pipe through. And because it was autoscrolling, I panicked, and then damageboosted over the top, skipping a good part of the level.
There's a philosophy that there's no such thing as bad players, just bad level design, and I sometimes subscribe to that so I don't have to admit I'm bad.
Maybe the pipe could be made clearer? Put in a place noticeably different from the decorative pipes?

I like the inventive use of the tubes here, but I feel like some of the elements could be telegraphed better. There are a few gaps full of spikes where the full extent of the gap isn't visible, so you don't know how far to jump. Otherwise, neat level. I especially like the use of the flying ants as a filter between Mario and the dry bones.

Thought it was pretty cute, I think the jump with the paratroopa at the beginning is a little odd. Nothing like it reoccurs and then momentum shift from the slope threw me off since there's not much room to work with at the top. I'd say scratch that and introduce the fire bros earlier on. Coming out of the pipes and having just the right amount of time to react and fire back were the best parts of the level. Gud level tho

Kinda, music blocks play a different note depending on their position on the y-axis which goes up a half step every block.
You set the tempo based on the type of movement you choose (running, walking, autoscroll, conveyors, etc.) Then the subdivision of the note is based on how much you space the music blocks apart. You could just copy from sheet music if you really wanted to but that would be really boring.

This level singlehandedly made me hate piranha creepers. Not because it's a bad level, I actually really like it, but because their hitboxes are FUCKING BULLSHIT. FUCK YOU NINTENDO.
I like the use of piranha creepers as spike blocks, where you make sleeping ones very long. Reminds me of the bramble levels in DKC2. Also, I noticed a question block at the top of a tree which isn't really necessary. You can put items inside of trees, where they will spawn when mario climbs to the top of them.
Yeah, I was mostly dicking around with what you could do with the question blocks. I thought it would add a bit of challenge to it. Is it really that bad?

Touch control is actually faster than controller, generally. As for ideas, I recommend trying to think of unique ways to use things. Mess around with gizmos and enemies, see if you can find a unique interaction that you can build a course around. For example, if you put a thwomp in a clown car, it will float around and try to smash you but just knocks you back instead of hurting you. I built a whole boss around this concept, it tried to push you into dangerous stuff.

It's a cool level. I beat it after about 4 tries. The saws are not very threatening and I think they're relied on a bit heavy, I was able to clear a lot of the latter half of the course by hugging the top of the screen, especially the hammer bros right before checkpoint. Same thing right before the goal. Consider lowering the ceiling, or making it more dynamic to the shape of the map.

I didn't find any secrets but I did replay it thinking I had. On the seesaw underground where the spike beetles are climbing up I tried to spin jump on them to climb the wall because I thought there was a secret up there but I forgot spin jump kills them in Mario U style

Nah, I wanted the course theme to be that kamek steals the goalpost, and you need to chase them down. Ideally the clear condition wouldn't even be there at all, since the flagpole does only come back when the kamek dies.
Unfortunately the game doesn't seem like like my idea very much.

coins are sort of a universal indicator, if a person sees a coin over a tree and no other trees have ones above them, that'll be enough

Anyone else kind of hate the 3d world theme. Having to sacrifice so much for a few cool enemies and blocks. Like this game would be so much better if the 3d world objects were ported to other themes

I was upset to find the dotted line blocks missing from 3D World. The beat blocks also not falling in time with the music makes them even less interesting than creating a switch to flicker dotted line blocks in all the other game modes.
Super Ball Fortress is pretty easy, but also really fun. I'm not a HUGE fan of the boom boom softlock, but we can kill ourselves so it's not a huge deal.

It isn't really a softlock if you can still get past it, unless there's a actual softlock I don't know about. I made it so you could kill boomboom with superballs if somehow the bombs didn't hit him.

Yeah, I noticed that was a problem with feathers specifically. I couldn't find a way to make them shoot faster, because the feathers don't despawn until they hit the bottom of the screen and that takes forever.

maybe put that checkpoint behind some one-way blocks, if you restart the level and don't react quick enough you get blown off and die again right away. Or even make it so the checkpoint is closer to the pipe. Awesome design though,
Yeah, but it'll be a nice change to have the more open, acrobatic levels of the main series rather than single gimmick centric ones of MM2. They'll also have the ability to introduce new entities and objects for every level
Also, that level in story mode with the lava bubbles on the track underwater was pure kino

Your level is very fun and looks great. My only complaint is that the way the lava goes down and up inside the volcano is a little bit "artificial difficulty"-ish, since you have no idea how to advance the first time around and it comes up at you by surprise if you aren't fast enough. After several tries, I learned where hazards were and was able to complete it fairly easily, though.
They always spawn facing you, only way to have them face right is to use a door/pipe to enter a new area and have them to the left of Mario

I’ll keep that in mind. I want to redesign some of the levels I made that I wasn’t as happy with later down the line so that’s definitely something I’ll do in the improved version.

Yeah, in endless mode you can get up to 3 lives in a stage to add to the toal. People would be more likely to like your level if you have them since they won't be as bothered about dying in the level.

I like it, I think the level lent itself to the "defeat X enemies" goal really well. It was like a koopa scavenger hunt.

The first part seemed pretty aesthetic at first but then became kind of a clusterfuck. I really liked the saw climb other than the ending seemed weird. Felt like I had to take damage to get passed the last caterpillar. Still had a mushroom so I was good though. Solid level overall.
Re uploaded a new version for improvements. Still want to hear from anyone who thought the puzzles weren't clear enough.
