>Soulless: Pokémon Gold and Silver
>SOUL: Pokémon HeartGold and SOULSilver
it's in the name you can't dispute it
god i fucking loved it that's for sure.
Pokemon hasnt changed its basic formula since gen 1. Why the fuck do people still play this dumb shit franchise i have no idea.
stfu you zoomer.
>best Johtomons are in postgame
>no evolution stones until postgame
>kills Safari Zone
Nope.
Go on a quest, capture new and old companions with an extreme amount of personality and ways to play. Whats not to like? prior to gen 6(gameplay wise)
In my opinion, yes
Peak retroasthetic
you wish, zoomer
yeah
has loads of features without feeling bloated
as a kid used to go back and just hang around, riding my bike, getting on the train or walking around the cities was a cosy as fuck
I almost never went into the Safari Zone
didn't see the point, was I missing out on something?
No, it's Gen 5
a bunch of exclusive mons like tauros and scyther, locked behind one of the most obnoxious minigames in the series
anyone who says they miss it are lying or deluded, it was never fun in any game
Speak for yourself. Safari Zones are fun for the challenge and rare pokemon are the reward.
there is no challenge, it's entirely luck based it all amounts to just pressing the button and hoping it stays in the ball this time
it makes me yearn for my youth the most, so yes.
This considering the autists that want turn base are a small percentage of a franchise that has made 17 billion in video game sales
I'd say it was for me. The older artstyle was still going strong, music was still phenomenal consistently, and I always loved the designs of the Pokemon and how they fit into the region. Then you have a game like Crystal that adds animations for the Pokemon even if it was just at the start of the battle. The regions of Johto and Kanto were both nicely designed. Gen 3 had a few things I really liked. Then gen 4 did as well and I loved the G/S remakes a lot. Gen 5 was really not my cup of tea but I liked some of the Pokemon and region aesthetics. Gen 6 introduced 3D and was kind of underwhelming but I did like the region. Gen 7 sucked. Gen 8 looks like a dumpster fire from what I can tell. I'll still play gen 2 games here and there. Pokemon has so much content now and newer generations seem to only give me a few things I can like from the whole.
>Is [gen i grew up with] the peak of pokemon?
Black & white two were the last good games.
It was for me but I can acknowledge its faults such as a poor level curve. Gen II did a lot of things right though.
>Two Regions
>Day/Night cycle
>Best sprite work in the series
>Great ost
>Best end-game boss
>First battle-tower that posed a great end-game challenge in Crystal
>Able to re-battle trainers with the cell-phone mechanic
You can thank iwata
KANTOOOOOOOOOO
No, gen 4 was, but 2 is extremely kino.
Nope, the peak was Gen5 in terms of feautures and deep lore.
You mean Johto. My autistic unova zoomer friend.
No, gen 1 was.
No. The GBA to DS era is.
this, Gen5 showed a lot of foreshadowing, even from BW to BW2 aswell as to a possible sequel, and the Team Plasma is rounded by a whole conspiracy theory
Literally this.Anyone who still pays for these are mentally dysfunctional
Gen 4 in every possible way, best main games, best remakes, best spinoffs.
What about Gen 2 but with Following pokemon and open world, OP?
Gen 4 doesn't have remakes or spinoffs the hell are you talking about
it has THE spinoffs, cumlord
>kills safari zone
The bug catching contest was cooler
nothing hits me with more nostalgia, so yes
Yeah. Also go back to your containment board.
Johto is the original KANTOOOO
>can only catch rare bug types on certain days if the week
Nah
>baby tier dungeon crawlers
Yeah sure bud
In Gen II you missed out on nothing since their was no safari zone.
I burned out on this game when I tried breeding. I thought it would be fun.
Based and redpilled. HG/SS are what the original games should've been,
Platinum and BW/2 were. They are the only games to feel like complete games on their own.
>slow as fuck in battle, hp drops at a snail's pace
>bad variety of pokemon, enjoy seeing Pidgey on 90% of the routes
>no special/physical split yet, some pokemon can't even use a reliable STAB attack
>learnsets are abysmal, enjoy relying on headbutt for your main attacking move for 50% of the game
>level curve is ass, adding late game pokemon to your team is a huge hassle
Nah, they were good for their time but today they feel really primitive.
>Team Plasma is rounded by a whole conspiracy theory
Not in the games. Gen 5 is weak and the beginning of the end for Pokemon. Sorry zoomer.
Sorry but Gen V is the series peak and the last time Madura put any sort of effort in the series.
I'm a boomer who skipped pokemon entirely until this year when I decided to see what all the fuss is about. I picked up PLGE and boy howdy, what a boring game. Could've beaten it blindfolded. Sold it back after finishing it and that was that.
Apparently older games are better, but if it's the same formula (pick pokemon with type advantage, one shot enemy, repeat x1000) then I don't see where the fun is.
DPPt/HGSS was the peak
BW/B2W2 was pretty close
GSC is good, but it's not as good as gen 4 (plus Gen 2 remakes) and gen 5
>Gen 6 is weak and the beginning of the end for Pokemon.
FTFY
>Sorry zoomer.
ZoomBoomDoomGoomToomFoomJoomNoomKoomMoomLoomEoomSoomHoomRoomUoomQoomCoomXoomIoomYoomOoomPoomWoom
>compared to over 100 hours chasing one pokemon with an extremely low catch rate
ok retard enjoy not having that chansey
Look I’m not gonna defend the entirety of the SZ but being able to go back over and over is better than only being able to go on certain days of the weak and only being limited to bug types.
Why'd the series go to shit after Black and White 2?
You sure you've got enough eggsecute for that omelet buddy?
Gen 2 was the death of Pokemon for me. It was just Gen 1 all over again with no originality or charm. And the Pokemon designs were 10 times worse. The fact that it's still more popular and beloved than the original games to this day is unfathomable to me and always has been.
I even replayed Silver recently to see if maybe I missed something... But no, it was worse than I remembered with all the soulless towns and gyms/leaders and all the stupid HMs you needed to get around. Why the fuck were there like 5 different water HMs. Christ. And the Pokemon are so stupid looking. I honestly had a hard time putting together a single team because there are just no Pokemon I like. Even the starters in that game look retarded. What a shit game.
Eggs > bug shitmons
Masuda and Omori
Ryhorns too can't forget about that safari zone "variety" of super cool mons like psyduck and slowpoke either
KANTOfags got mindraped by ice cream and begged for Charizard to save them.
HGSS effectively replaced GSC, there's no point to playing GSC in 2019
Yup, all better than bugs.
Two of which (version exclusives) are the main attraction in the Safari Zone
Masuda made more good games than bad though. It's sad that Tajiri is the one behind Let's Go.
Do you think there's hope for the new games? Limited pokemon aside.
You know i would really love it if nintendo made a pokemon game in GBC graphics. I feel the pokemon games were taken away from that too soon. They were peak comfy
Gimme Gen V in Gen 2 graphics on the Switch and vice versa.
You picked literally the most dumbed down games in the entire series by a wide margin. The only games with less shit going on were gen 1, the games Let's Go were remakes of, except there were already Gen 1 remakes that vastly improved on them. They're not super hard games but you can solo Let's Go with your starter without issue using moves of literally any type you want that they don't have in any other game.
The games to play if you want to experience every region are FRLG, HGSS, Emerald, Platinum, BW & B2W2 (actual sequel so it's worth playing both), and then stop. XY weren't terrible but they were bland outside of Mega Evolution and Gen 7 falls short on as many things as it improves on from 6.
Masuda was good when the limitations were as far as his asperations.
>Gen 2
Day night cycle
Special split
Dark and Steel types

Custom pokeballs

Weather
>Gen 3

>Gen 4

>Gen 5

>Gen 6

>Gen 7

No HMs
Which Gen made the most important changes? Which was most insubstantial
Gen IV’s Split. It made Gen 3’s changes worth something.
>Masuda is still okay at making base duologies; BW was good and XY was okay if bland
>Various other directors have done amazing things with third versions
>This motherfucker Ohmori has shown complete incompetence at both Pokemon direction skillsets based on ORAS & Gen 7
>Somehow, I feel like even the best directors would be handicapped by Game Freak the studio's laziness given how Sword & Shield are progressing
There will literally never be a good mainline Pokemon again.
Gen 2 added the most but Gen 4's split was so critical that I can never go back to Gen 3 and back
the spec/phys split RUINED pokemon
No one bought the games they put their heart and soul into even after caving and adding old Pokémon to the regional dex.
>the spec/phys split RUINED pokemon
Fucking explain yourself
Get back in your hole, troll.
youtube.com
Your post is upsetting me. I recently replayed Platinum after listening to the soundtrack. The game was even better than I remember it.
Gen 2 took the concept and made it something more legitimate. Gen 4 was a huge leap that helped 2 & 3's changes be more meaningful. Gen 5 innovated the least due to BW being a soft reboot and yet it's arguably the best gen, possibly because they devoted more time to improving what they had going, which allowed B2W2 to be an even better followup entry than previous and later gens got.
The phys/spec split genuinely was the biggest change as it allowed many pokemon to finally have a STAB option. Take Gengar for example, it's massive special attack stab couldn't use a ghost or poison attack since both of those were physical attacking types.
>allows you to skip the shitty catching pokemon tutorial
it certainly is better than everything that came after
since they have mandatory tutorials
>Gyarados is a water type that couldn't use water type moves
>No good flying type moves available to it
Thanks Game Freak
his games are awful and always use the same garbage formula
Gengar was already great before the split
Gen 2 was pure kino. Very nearly perfect. Just needs physical and special split. A more developed Kanto would have been cool, too.
turned the game into hyper offense trash. every type has a high damage phys and spec version so the only stat that matters is speed and the offensive stat of your choice. balanced pokemon like pidgeot became worthless
And the split made him better, any Pokemon who got shafted by the split is on GF for fixing them.
It was great because of it's stat spread, levitate for the spikes meta, and access to other actual powerful special moves. All of it's success is in spite of the lack of a split, not because of it.
Was more just trying to use Gengar as an example of how ridiculous it was, Gengar's stats were enough to carry it obviously but still.
Gengar was great because it has an explosively high SpA stat and is fast even by modern day standards AND has ridiculous coverage. Still couldn't use either of its STABs whatsoever.
Crystal was fucking amazing. The main issue it had was the Move type determined if it was phys or spec
As a guy who wants to get into Pokemon (first few gens specifically), should I play Red/Blue/Yellow first, or jump straight to gen 2? I ask this because I know the region from the first game is present in gen 2, and playin it first could have an impact.
You're conflating the split with new high damage and widely accessible moves when they have nothing to do with each other, and you make this same shitty argument every time you post your retarded opinion. Pidgeot isn't bad because it's "balanced" it (and many other mons) are bad because it's a shit typing, shit abilities, and shit moves, and has always had these problems for the three gens before the split you claim to hate so much
Play FRLG, it made RBY obsolete.
Also, are the third versions of each generation always the best choice?
Fuck you. There were pokemon that weren't even allowed to leverage their own typing because of their typings. You're mad about hyper offense? How about Alakazam running all the elemental punches because they all scale from its special?
>stall doesn't exist in the modern day
>always the best choice?
Yes. Mostly because they often fix at least a few of the mistakes of the vanilla versions or add things not present in the vanilla versions.
>no evolution stones until postgame
Sure if you're some pleb. The elemental stones are available if you know the right trainers to add into your phonebook.
Definitely gen 3.
Peak grafix, peak soul, peak UI
I can play RBY but I also know I have nostalgia tied into it. Even then I only play romhacks. Yeah play Fire Red or Leaf Green. There's a little bit of stupid shit (Golbat) but overall you can get the Gen 1 experience but a bit more streamlined
Was gen 3 your first? I found it to be kind of lacking compared to the first two.
My first game was Silver, then I played Yellow, then Sapphire.
I still consider gen 4 to be the absolute peak of Pokemon. Everything else for me after never lived up to it again.
Not him but I have this weird infatuation with Gen 3. The movement is snappy, the effects are just enough show power without being too much and I love the layout of Hoenn. The only reason the water routes suck is because there's nothing there compared to the land routes that's loaded with stuff
No, it was the DS era
>Thank you to all of our fans for caring so deeply about Pokémon. Recently, I shared the news that some Pokémon cannot be transferred to Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield. I've read all your comments and appreciate your love and passion for Pokémon.
>Just like all of you, we are passionate about Pokémon and each and every one of them is very important to us. After so many years of developing the Pokémon video games, this was a very difficult decision for me. I'd like to make one thing clear: even if a specific Pokémon is not available in Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield, that does not mean it will not appear in future games.
>The world of Pokémon continues to evolve. The Galar region offers new Pokémon to encounter, Trainers to battle, and adventures to embark on. We are pouring our hearts into these games, and we hope you will look forward to joining us on this new journey
Why are you fags crying so much about the pokedex or whatever? I don't get it.
No. It wasn't done that well in terms of progression. Johto ends way too damn early and the Kanto region is just fucked as all hell with progression and leveling.
Gen 4 is since it technically includes Heartgold and Soulsilver
emerald, HG/SS, and B2/W2 are all better. Platinum is arguably better
It's the last one Tajiri was deeply involved with.
Pokemon was his vision that he went to extraordinary lengths to create despite not being that experienced, because he and his friends at Gamefreak just loved JRPGs that much and wanted to create something new, inspired by SaGa and MOTHER.
Pokemon 2 was them learning from the mistakes and turmoil of developing the first game, implementing everything they cut, and packing it with as much content as possible.
I hate the term soul, but if there's a game that fits that word, it's Gold and Silver. It's the work of truly dedicated developers striving to push their limits and create a game they would want to play, based on an imaginative and original idea that they did their best to embody with their limited technology and expertise.
Games after that just implemented the same design without understanding why it was designed that way in the first place. Instead of creating RPGs taking elements from their contemporaries, they started just creating Pokemon games, going down a checklist of things that are characteristic of Pokemon.
And then you have the modern era where Masuda literally just doesn't care at all anymore and treats making the games as just a job instead of a collaborative, artistic effort.
With all the increases in technology, we still haven't gotten even one step closer to what the original idea behind the game was, the games take zero influence from contemporary games and it's why they feel more and more dated every time.
Because people don't generally like being told to fuck off when they're told their favorites won't make the cut
Because claiming there isn't enough room for the national DeX sounds like bullshit when Switch games are minimum 5x bigger than 3DS games. Especially when they're still using XY models
Because their excuse about adding details sound like bullshit when animations are straight missing
Because their claim that they suddenly care about balance also sounds like bullshit unless they're changing Butterfree to be in even terms with fucking Tyranitar
Because the auction game still looks like shit despite claims that they're increasing the detail in exchange for the national dex
Because we live in 2019 where the national dex can be patched in even if the rest were true
And yet it’s still the most worst off main game thanks to the awful level curve and trash Pokemon distribution.
>With all the increases in technology, we still haven't gotten even one step closer to what the original idea behind the game was, the games take zero influence from contemporary games and it's why they feel more and more dated every time.
Pokemon Platinum, Black & White and 2.
Platinum is outright better Emerald and any pre-Split game.
Gen 2 originally intended to cover the entirety of Japan but then it didn't.
So what do you end up with? Two "regions" that are both 1/3rd the scale of what Kanto was in gen i. It's total garbage and everyone that enjoys gen 2 and it's towns/dungeons/routes that are all smaller than their gen 1 equivalents is a child that literally had gen 2 as their baby's first pokemon or some fucking retard.
Mt Moon in Gen 1 is fucking comparable to Gen 2's victory road. It's ridiculous.
>Platinum is outright better Emerald
>slower
>more worse HMs
>region is far less diverse
>worse battle frontier
>sub 30FPS
>worse contests
>mount coronet
>dex filled with shitty legendary/baby/crossevo pokemon
only thing platinum does better is phys/spec split
Imagine it were route 69 lmfao
it was and RSE were the last games in the series that needed to exist
>slower
>more worse HMs
Surf, Waterfall and Strength are useful, Defeog is optional and Cut is one time use. meanwhile you got three water HMs and two get outclassed by Surf.
>region is far less diverse
It’s the most diverse region after Unova with good mons.
>worse battle frontier
Better since it ditches the gimmicky RNGfest of the original.
>sub 30FPS
It’s turn based.
>worse contests
Subjective
>mount coronet
Filtered plebs
>dex filled with shitty legendary/baby/crossevo pokemon
Started back in Gen 2.
>the level curve
>Horrible Pokemon placement
>Fucking Johto gym leaders not using gen ii pokemon
> Kanto is barren
Pokemon didn't get good until Emerald. The golden age of Pokemon started there and ended with B2W2.
Yes
>RSE were the last games in the series that needed to exist
What a low point to end on. Fortunately Platinum exists and made that shit obsolete.
This
Battle Frontier is fun a fuck. GameFreak could suck it for not adding it back into ORAS. Jerks. And B2W2 had awesome post game too with the World Championship. So fucking rad
waterfall and dive are one time use, but you ignored that for gen 3. Flash is also used in platinum for optional areas despite not being an HM
>It’s the most diverse region after Unova
still less than Hoenn
>with good mons
the mons were so shit in D/P they had to fix distribution in platinum and it's still not good. Also the mons are shit, see the legendaries, babymon, and crossevos
>Better since it ditches the gimmicky RNGfest of the original.
also gets rid of pyramid and pike leaving the only good one being factory
>it's turn based
except for everything in the game that's not
>subjective
sure but it's generally agreed upon
>filtered plebs
nobody thinks Mt. Coronet is difficult, it's a tedious HM filled shithole that you go through multiple times
>started back in Gen 2
and it wasn't nearly as egregious as gen 4
>couldn't use water type moves
It had 100 special attack in its debut.
you forgot natures for gen 3. Biggest change is either Abilities or Phys/spec split
Nobody plays DP, it’s Platinum, and had better diversity and mons thanks to the split. Half of Hoenn’s roster is shit because they have trash learnsets and stats. And I see you got filtered by Mt. Coronet. Bitching too. Thanks for making the series into what it is today.
yes
/thread
So when are we going to get a poke psychologist or something to let us change natures without an hour or breed autism
>better diversity
no it does not, any area that has diversity is packed into the post game aside from the bog and snow which slows down the game ever further. There is still, like, 2 fire pokemon in platinum. the phys/spec split doesn't affect this
the rest of your posted devolved into frothing at the mouth and I won't bother addressing it
never, they never even attempted to fix IVs instead of some horrible system where you have to get your pokemon to level 100 and farm for coins.
christ, you're fucking stupid.
you too.
>Which Gen made the most important changes?
>Gen 8
No national dex.
>bitching about the snow and mud
What a faggot.
>There is still, like, 2 fire pokemon in platinum
And retarded too. Check how many there actually are.
Are there people on here that are really dumb enough to believe that G/S/C was better than HG/SS when they're basically the exact same shit but the later is an updated version that improved upon the former in almost every conceivable way? My only real issue with the remakes is that they still failed to fix the embarrassing level distribution in Johto. But aside from that, the only reason why you'd ever prefer G/S is if you're a low iq nostalgia fag, in which case feel free to kill yourself.
Yea. The continuation of pokemon was only really allotted up to gen 2.
Season 1 of the cartoon opened with ash seeing and yet named ho-oh and there being discussion of other pokemon in the world. Gen 2 included ho-oh.
Open and shut.
Shit should have never gotten has retarded as it had.
>but the later is an updated version that improved upon the former in almost every conceivable way?
Someone bring up the Rocket Executive
>bitching about something that slows down gen 4 even more
seems valid to me
>Check how many there actually are.
ponyta, houndoor, magmar. Great selection
After a quick look on Google
Chimchar line
Ponyta line
Flareon
Magby line
Houndour line
Not a whole lot but it gets filled with HGSS
Gen 2 is indeed the peak of Pokemon.
I looked it up but nothing came up. What is this in reference to?
>seems valid to me
You’re bitching about something that can be evaded by moving back and forth, and adds a feel of traversing and adventuring to the region.
Fire types are pretty rare in most games with Hoenn being the one with most fire mons.
then wait for 2 weeks to get em lmao sure
Because it's so addictive fans have gone full autistic over it and the devs milk it for all it's worth.
Don't believe me? The whole #bringbacknationaldex fiasco happened because they kept supporting gamefreak's backward ass decision of removing content over the years just because, so it's no surprise they were going to cut pokemon if they didn't even give a damn about the national dex. And the best part is, by the time it's all over, those same people are still gonna buy sword and shield because of the stockholm syndrome pokemon laid into them.
Leaving the franchise after learning how laughable the 3ds games are was in hindsight the best decision I've made in my life.
every pokemon game except Gen 3/4 is fucking easy. Gen 2 still the best.
He’s the big bad of the game and despite a decade of experience with Pokemon games, he still has the same shit team.
>Karen
Only applies to the single player. And I don't mean that spitefully, I'm a Karenfag. But every time I hold Xerneas hostage with a Prankster I know this would never happen with a competent player
>adds to the feel
feeling of shit, yeah
What's so laughable about the 3ds games? I know many people say they are trash but for me it looks like the same shit as ever. Can you do a quick rundown on the things that made them bad?
gen 1/2 have more excuses due to a smaller amount of existing pokemon but even they have more than platinum
>My only real issue with the remakes is that they still failed to fix the embarrassing level distribution in Johto.
That's what romhacks are for ;)
Both are good. Yes it's easy even for Pokémon standards, but the region is comfy incarnate. Best ost, towns, unobtrusive plot, radio and walking Pokémon. It's the best game GF has ever made and it makes me sad that they will NEVER put in as much effort as they did for GSC and HGSS.
for
user, all I’m getting from this that you have shit taste. Get over it.
the gen 3 remake coming one gen too late is the biggest tragedy in the series
Hgss are my favourites too but don't praise voltorb flip in my presence
>slow movement in snow routes and mt coronet are largely criticized by the playerbase
>hide behind a non-existent challenge factor as your defense
>somehow i have shit taste
>hours of searching for specific Pokemon
>throw one ball
>runs away
how fun
such challenge
>but even they have more than platinum
Quality > quantity, Gen 2 mons are trash for the most part and get mogged by Kantomons on their own turf.
gen 4 pokemon are trash too and suffer from the same issues, too many babymon and cross evos. gen 4 also had shitty legendary bloat
Worst GB era gen gets worst remake, it’s what it’s worth.
>Pokemon hasnt changed its basic formula since gen 1
Why does it have to change the formula? It works, people like it, they add enough new pokemon, characters and stories among other things each time. Why does it have to be a complete rework of the entire franchise?
>i have shit taste
You do, you’re shitting on what gives the region a distinction. Plus Coronet was criticized by Japanese CHILDREN who couldn’t figure their way.
Oh yeah definitely. I've never been a fan of voltorb flip. Shame GF folded instead of allowing the slots to stay. Hell, they could have put in some effort and made something better than a minesweeper clone.
So Gen 6 and 7 tried some different things and the results were... mixed. Gen 6 introduced Mega Evolution. Basically allowed a single Pokemon on your team to go super Saiyan. Stats were remixed, abilities were changed, design was changed. All at the cost of your item slot. Only 46 pokemon got access to a Mega Evolution but despite the name only about 4 of them ended up being ridiculously powerful with the rest being kinda powerful. Also Gen 6 introduced Fairy to balance out the dragons. And by balance them out I mean completely obliterate them since the dragons could do nothing to them and they were only weak to very uncommon offensive typings
Gen 7 became far more story centric than any other Pokemon game. I mean Jesus Christ hours of cutscenes in the single player. But it introduced my favorite thing ever, regional variants, so I'm mixed on it
>suffer from the same issues,
They don’t. I don’t have to wade through trashmoms like raticate and pidgeys to get to the good stuff.
>What's so laughable about the 3ds games
Haven't played any of them, but from what I've read:
>XY had literally no postgame or actual new pokemon compared to every gen prior (around 30 were introduced I think)
>they rushed the Ruby Sapphire remakes and blamed cellphones and children for the lack of Emerald-related content
>Sun and Moon is full of hallways, small areas and it's a cutscenefest somehow worse than Mario & Luigi Dream Team and the Enhanced Ultra games are pokemon crystal levels of "enhanced" AKA barely anything was added or fixed
No idea about let's go sadly. Maybe it's somehow actually good but I doubt it
Gen I, II, and IV. VI would have been if they actually fixed the problems a la Platinum.
Lots of people bought them, but slightly fewer(15mil instead of 16 or 17mil) than average bought them. This was enough for gen5 to be considered a "failure" and gamefreak have since basically given in to the KAAANTTOOOO meme. They've always been hacks, but now they're burnt out, lazy hacks.
i dunno what you're talking about, the best johtomons are all right on the same route after Violet City
if the distinction is shit, it's worth shitting on
>Plus Coronet was criticized by Japanese CHILDREN who couldn’t figure their way.
they weren't the only ones
Yea peak lazy, feels like shitty gen 1 dlc
Nope. It's simplified kiddy shit like "baddy bad" or "splishy splash". It's sad because I can see how this could have been a good game, but there's just so much handholding. Plus your starter replaces hms in really dumb ways, like a bike with balloons instead of fly.
>if the distinction is shit
It wasn’t, you’re too much of a lazy butch to move back and forth to get out of the mud and impatient to move through the snow. You’re also a giant dumbass for getting lost on Coronet.
That’s pretty much what Johto is, while regions like Sinnoh and Unova have their own identity. Johto is Kanto’s footstool.
I really hope the SwSh controversy shakes shit up so the DPPt remake doesn't get fucked up
but my hope is long since gone
That's literally the worst game in the series though. It's like playing Final Fantasy Mystic Quest and thinking every Final Fantasy is that way.
gamefreak are incapable of developing in 3d.
mud isn't the distinction of sinnoh (although it sucks too), mt coronett is
>too much of a lazy butch to move back and forth to get out of the mud and impatient to move through the snow.
am I playing a video game here or wage slaving?
>getting lost on Coronet
holy shit you are a really dumb faggot. I didn't get lost in Coronet and it's not the reason people complain about it, Mt. Coronett is terrible because it's filled with required HMs that you need to fuck up your party build for as well as having multiple required visits, get that through your thick skull you troglodyte
SOULLESS: HeartGold
SOUL: SoulSilver
Mt. Coronet is shit
Did anyone else stop really caring about pokemon after silver? I remember being HUGE into pokemon as a kid. It was truly an amazing game and marketing scheme at the same time. I wanted every doll, happy meal plushie, cartoon VHS, and card I could find....right up until after Silver. I guess I just grew out of it luckily. I've gone back and played BW/Emerald/Yellow and so on, but not in forever and only to scratch that light itch I get sometimes for a mindless "rpg". It just seems so weird to be a 25+ year old pokecuck You complain about games that are made for little kids. Gamefreak doesnt care about their opinions because theyll buy it regardless of how shit the game is or graphics are.
yes
Actually, yes.
I'm nostalgic for gen 2, so my opinion doesn't count. Heartgold and Soulsilver I enjoyed more than the originals though.
>moving back and forth is wage slaving
user tell me you’re not that lazy. I can get the shit for preferring Emerald over Platinum, Hoenncucks are just as delusion as Johtofags, but that is just pathetic. Hell, the mud is easily avoidable too.
That's the kind of future pokemon is getting sucked into, huh. That sucks.
>Plus your starter replaces hms in really dumb ways
No idea what that means but if it's implying HMs are no longer a thing then jesus christ gamefreak actually might have learned no one liked those
Ah yes those complaints are very valid. Why make only a few of a cast of 400+ characters able to attain a more powerful version than others, in a competitive game nonetheless.
Also fuck unskippable cutscenes
user, the whole turn based rpg content was created solely based on the limitations of the systems back in the day.We have alot of modern games that are more innovative and fun then push a button simulators which makes turn based combat feel boring and outdated. The ones that still buy these games are dumb manchildren who have shit taste and normalfags that want to play the same game over and over again for nostalgia.
Shit I WISH every FF was like Mystic Quest.
youtube.com
>tfw Ryuji Sasai did some chip music for some rando Kemco RPGs
>the music is all tinny as fuck and you can literally feel his depression in it
What the fuck happened? Someone call Yasuhiro Kawakami and Chihiro Fujioka and get the band back together. Throw in Tadahiro Nitta and Satoshi Kadokura as well, because why the fuck not?
HMs should have been innate pokemon move that they all have, which is authorized/permitted after getting certain Gym badges.
No children play these games. Its either manchildren or normalfags with nostalgia.
No, Pidgeot was terrible even before the physical/special split. youtube.com
Gen1: Blizzard and Hyper Beam were the game's biggest haymakers in terms of damage. Any Pokemon weak to blizzard was a liability. Because of how speed is tied to critical, the best normal/flying of Gen1 was Dodrio by a longshot, same attack as Snorlax, has Drill Peck, and had a high speed (and therefore high crit chance), but even Dodrio was fodder to Blizzard spam.
Gen2: Everything is bulky as fuck due to how DV works and how every Pokemon can max every stat. Pidgeot still doesn't have a good Flying move. The most successful Pokemon of this gen were bulky sleep talkers that could also slam hard on opponents. Doesn't help that steels resist Pidgeot, Raikou/Zapdos and Tyranitar are on most teams, and Pidgeot still has shit movepool, and Hyper Beam got nerfed.
Gen3: Pidgeot still can't compete. Skarm/Blissey are the defensive cores, and Pidgeot can't fucking get through these, nor Crocune, and we have offensive powerhouses like Tyranitar/Salamence/Metagross wrecking everything, too. It's movepool, yet again, is still shit.
Pidgeot and other pokemon dying off wasn't due to the phys/special split. It was because other better Pokemon kept getting added into the game that could KO the few things Pidgeot could threaten, but better, or they had more stats overall, or better movepool overall (like Swellow getting added in Gen3, with Guts as its ability, and Facade as a STAB option)
Consider Arcanine, who actually has a better typing, better movepool, better stats overall, but is still mostly a balanced-mon in terms of stat distribution. It's actually done pretty well (all things considered for a Gen1-mon). Arcanine always had a niche (intimidate, extremespeed, bulk, etc) despite new pokemon.
Pidgeot and other shitmon died because they were shit.
Playing White 2 right now and its probably the most boring campaign out of the main series. Worst rival and villain team.
>We have alot of modern games that are more innovative and fun then push a button simulators which makes turn based combat feel boring and outdated
Sure we CAN do a lot more with games, but why? People enjoy the pokemon formula. They think it's fun. They enjoy the turn-based games. If you don't like the formula that's been in place forever and there's no sign of change in sight, then go to a different series.
Not even that. Just give me a fucking flashlight or hedgeclippers. Rental pokemon actually make sense as well.
What the fuck are Morimoto, Kawachimaru, and Unno doing these days instead of saving Pokemon? All those madmen made great games, and yet the absolute hacks keep taking over. What the fuck is going on over at Game Freak?
Even though some people bitched at Megas, overall they were positively received. A lot of people expected more Megas for pokemon that needed them. Now even though new Megas didn't show up in USUM, regional variants were great. Muk got a new lease on life with its Alola form.
The whole point of HM moves is to involve your pokemon on your traversal
>Playing White 2 right now and its probably the most boring campaign out of the main series.
GSC and HGSS still exist.
>Gimped sky pillar.
Fucking what? Sky pillar looks infinitely superior now.
Don't tell me you liked 5 floors of the same short tiny room shit and a quick and easy mach bike puzzle.
I dont even play pokemon anymore so your point "hur dur if you dont liek it dont play it mentality" gets invalidated by default. My point is the games can offer so much more and there were countless fan projects that innovated the combat to a more intense and fun system just to be cancelled by the IP owners on copyright infringement. That is why i fucking hate the corporate faggots so much since they dont ever try to do anything new or different despite having the resoruces to do so.All they do is monopolize their IPs and milk them to oblivion thanks to retards that have shit taste, and yes you are partly the problem.
The single most important change for Pokemon is by far the Phys-Spec split, so Gen 4 wins by default. Playing the old games without hacks to retroactively introduce it is a pain in the ass.
What's worse is that Mega Pidgeot could've been good if Game Freak let it have Blizzard to round out its coverage. But no even with a Mega it's stuck in mediocrity
>thought SwSh was a retarded abbreviation when I thought the game might be good
>Now I don't give a shit
Interesting. DPPt are going to be shit and alienate the original gen 4 fans. Also I think Platinum still holds up I have a softspot for Pearl because Gamefreak fucking hates Glameow and Purugly
>Voltorb Flip
>Interesting minigame
Choose one
My mind always lumps Mystic Quest in with the FF Legends (Actually part of the SaGa series) for some reason.
>go into Mt. Moon
>catch Clefairy for Pokédex
>turn on Repel
Yeah, I got that, except
>90% of HM moves are shit in battle
>can't erase these moves with another TM or level up move
>have to have the proper badge to use anyways (less of a problem later on when badges and HMs were received about the same time)
>this ends up with you fucking your team up by having 1~2 HM slaves and only 4 viable pokemon
The smartest thing they could have done to both keep HMs on pokemon and still let you have your good moves would have been to give fifth move slot exclusively for HMs and let it be allowed to be overwritten by other HMs.
Also, no more than 6 HMs, preferably only 5 or even less, especially if one HM can do multiple actions (i.e. allow surf to use the waterfall and whirlpool effects by using surf in the proper contextual spot, flash lighting up caverns but also having the defog effect, etc.).
HMs were always shit.
>Is Gen 2 the peak of pokemon?
>introduce a bunch of unusable shitmons
>anime filler was boring and killed pokemania
>regurgitated Kanto instead of focusing more on the new region and new pokemon
>terrible level curve where nearly every trainer is piss easy, especially the rival
It's been said before but it seems that Gen 2 fans are just Gen 1 fans that like prettier graphics.
>move that burns away stuff cant remove a bush but a weak cut can
Gen 2 and Gen 4 introduced the most fundamental changes, and they are incidentally, the best gens.
Its easy to take for granted, but online Pokemon battles and trade was such a godsend that it made all other issues with Gen 4 (like the speed) seem irrelevant at the time.
Platinum still holds up except for the fucking FPS. I was just really looking forward to them receiving the HGSS treatment until I learned how shitty ORAS was.
The easiest thing they could have done was have multiple moves that have the same function out of battle. Then you don't have to give up moveslots for garbage moves. That, or make HM moves useful on their own.
>introduce a bunch of unusable shitmons
What is Gen 1
> Day night.
Good change. Not the most impactful, but quite good. Essentially doubles the capacity of any given area to give mons.
> Special split.
VERY impactful. And a good thing.
> Dark and steel types
They weren't super impactful during that gen iirc but they were extremely impactful long term. Also good changes.
> Hold items.
Ridiculously impactful and top tier change.
> Custom pokeballs
fuck this shit. Was always dumb and worthless. Ultra balls are better than any other ball anyway.
> Hazards
Meh. Set up a new metagame that didn't come around till 3 and was abandoned by 4. Not very impactful and not a particularly goodchange.
> Weather.
Same as above.
> Double battles.
Lmao.
> Abilities
Crazy impactful and very good change.
> IV's
FUCK OFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF IV/EV TRAINING IS CANCERAIDS
> Pys spec split
Good change. Very impactful.
> Wifi battle.
Good.
> GTS
Very good.
> Infinite TM's
About time. Not super impactful but very nice qol.
> Fairy type
Fuck dragons lmao.
> Mega Evolution
Fucking stupid. Why didn't they just make it a regular goddamn evolution. Why do they have to go back to whatever it was? Gyarardos mega is so fucking sweet. Goddamnit. They should have just been regular evos for fucks sake.
> Z moves
Fucking stupid.
> Regional variants
Could have been much more impactful than it was, if it were implemented earlier. Would have made the degradation of quality in new designs less apparent, and really eased off the pressure for 100+ fresh faces every gen. Maybe instead you just realease the ones you really really fuckin like instead of cranking out fucking lawn mowers and shit. Candlebro is based though fite me.
> No HM's
Good change. Fuck HM Slaving, seriously.
All in all, Gen 2 was the most impactful and has the most actually good changes.
>fuck this shit. Was always dumb and worthless. Ultra balls are better than any other ball anyway.
I bet you also think nicknames are worthless
It's a bunch of things and it's hard to summarize in one post since it's easy to go into detail.
>The games have become steadily more railroaded and go out of their way to prevent the player fromwalking off the main path while gluing the Pokémon equivalent to Clippy to the bottom screen that always tells you what to do and where to go
>Hurting the reputation of whatever platform they're on by running like ass. So many people blame the 3DS for Gen VI and VII's technical shortcomings (they barely even have 3D support and struggle to maintain 30 fps in 2D) when numerous other 3DS games have had full working 3D in large 3D environments and maintain steady frame rates
>Bizarre interviews where they say stuff like "the Battle Frontier isn't in ORAS because children have smartphones and don't have the attention span and only a minority of players would care", "rivals acting like rival characters instead of your best friend wouldn't be liked nowadays", "we don't add certain content so that each game feels unique", "Pokémon is too complicated and difficult now and we need to simplify it more like GO", etc.
>A distinct lack of meaningful content. Like you can obtain every Legendary between USUM, but it feels really pointless because they have no buildup and are just all thrown into a generic Ultra Wormhole encounter method with no dungeons, story events, or even overworld models. It was a similar problem in ORAS. But they haven't done a Battle Frontier since 2009, and everything since (minus the PWT in B2W2) has been a Battle Tower clone that's steadily losing modes or a gimmick like battle royals. Triple, rotation, sky, and inverse battles are gone. Mega Evolutions and Z-Moves are leaving. Trainer rematches are extremely limited without a Vs. Seeker.
>Games are now rushed out for yearly deadlines and gap years seem to be a thing of the past, and the game quality suffers for it. New Gens now try to hit every 3 years, when 4 years is preferable.
>Forgot gen 2's breeding and giving Pokemon genders
Shame that they accidentally made it so that female Pokemon always had worse stats than male ones but I'm sure some people think that's based and redpilled.
>Both are good
I strongly disagree.
Both HGSS and ORAS did not fix their level curves or poor important NPC teams save for a few. Both HGSS and ORAS also added mandatory story filler while removing customization and QOL improvements from their shared generation (examples: HGSS didn't have the VS Seeker even though Platinum had it and ORAS didn't trainer customization despite XY having it.) There's also distribution issues: HGSS still makes Gen 2 pokemon an unnecessary rarity and cross gen evolutions are inaccessible until late into the postgame. ORAS doesn't fix the distribution of the RS water routes either.
It was definitely the most exciting time. I remember reading about it in EGM. Things like a day/night cycle, being able to battle trainers more than once through cellphone calls, special events on different days of the week, pokemon at specific times. The ENTIRE kanto region and league in addition to the base game. It really was the best game on gameboy of the time. Incredibly exciting and even kids at school who had no social media to spread the word were talking about "Pikablu" which was mostly just Marill. All kids were hype. After how good red/blue was how could we not be?
post yfw
>Play Crystal for the first time and see that the Pokemon sprites have a little animation
Blew my little child mind back in the day.
>They weren't super impactful during that gen
They were there specifically to make psychic types fuck off
>Megas should just be evos
Sure sucks for Beedrill, Pidgeot, Aggron, etc.
>only gen in history to have differing spites depending on version
That's actually a good suggestion I hadn't thought of. I do wish Pidgeot could learn Blizzard now, too. Especially since it's a Genwunner pokemon and how absurdly stupid shit like Tauros and Rhydon could learn Blizzard.
It'd also work really well in dobules, since heatwave/hurricane already are wind-like moves that hit only opposing pokemon.
Kino
>HGSS and ORAS did not fix their level curves or poor important NPC teams save for a few
Fucking this. This shit is unacceptable.
>HGSS *STILL* has johto gym leaders using bad gen 1 pokemon despite plenty of appropriate gen 2 pokemon being readily available around their area
>ORAS doesn't giving gym leaders their good Emerald teams but instead their shitty RS teams but with *LESS* moves than RSE
retard gen 2 was the peak of pokemania. the reason why it was "gen 1 all over again" is because it was like an expansion pack for gen 1. this is apparent due to the fact that many pokemon there were originally supposed to be in gen 1.
Gen 2 is good, the remake is very good.
This times a hundred. HGSS will never be on the tiers of Platinum or Gen V for those reasons.
It’s been a decade and the region is still just an expansion pack for Kanto for the worst despite other regions escaping that label.
>Third versions are now split into two versions, thus completely killing any point to them existing. Imagine if they released Emerald Ruby and Emerald Sapphire, or Platinum Diamond and Platinum Pearl. Not only that, but USUM was released less than a year after SM instead of the typical 2 year minimum and it made SM feel extra pointless since there was literally no benefit (minus maybe Island Scan Pokémon) to owning them. XY and SM were also left in the dust by ORAS and USUM and received no updates to be compatible with the new moves and forms introduced in those games. USUM also literally introduced new Pokémon instead of just forms, making SM feel extra incomplete. Of course events always focus on the newest games, but Game Freak never does any content patches and the older games get totally ignored now.
>Events are now just distributions with the odd NPC coming in and saying something irrelevant. There's nothing like the Ilex Forest event, Birth Island, Navel Rock, Faraway Island, Newmoon Island, the Flower Paradise, Hall of Origin, Liberty Island, etc. anymore and it deprives the player of an actual interesting experience. It's just handing the player a yearly advertisement now with nothing to make it feel special.
>Pokémon are just shoved on routes in large quantities without interesting encounter mechanics. Many Pokémon like Feebas or even Munchlax aren't difficult to find with a couple minutes of patience, but now it feels like there are less bragging rights for owning a specific Pokémon. Not only that, but the shiny rate has been doubled making finding them less exciting.
>Every Gen needs to have a "defining gimmick" now that will be forgotten as soon as it stops being marketing material.
>The game does everything in its power to give the player an advantage, from Pokémon-Amie giving you bonus criticals, healing your status in battle, and surviving attacks you shouldn't, to Exp. Share affecting the entire party without an exp split.
Gen 2 > Gen 3 > Gen 5 > Gen 4 >>>>>>>>>>>>>> Dogshit >>>>>>>>>>>>>> Gen 6+7 >>>>>>>>>> Gen 1
got this earlier
do you guys like my shiny celebi
I’m cool with Feebas and Munchlax being easier to find. Shit was tedious find and catching them back then and rarely felt rewarding.
no other region was labeled that.
I'd rather play Gen I than Gen VI or VII because even though I is the roughest around the edges and the lowest in content, it actually had passion put into it. While I started with Silver, I can still appreciate Gen I because it nailed the core elements that got me into Pokémon, even if many later games did it better. I also like the Gen I aesthetic.
Ugly, laggy, braindead easy
I got them both in Platinum and I was so proud. Mind you I had to use a Shiny I found to determine my Secret ID so I could use Filb's honey tree calculator so I'd optimize my searching, but I did find Munchlax within a week after checking those four trees up to three times a day.
>Find shiny Hoothoot
>Didn't have any pokeballs
I fucking hated the safari zone.
Gen 2 had best OST, most enjoyable setting, and most charming grafics
and thus to me it is the best in the series. yeah sure list whatever humongous list of gameplay nitpicks you want. IMO it doesn't even matter. the gameplay in this series ranges from 0/10 to 2/10 anyway.
I played Pokémon from gen 1 to gen 7.
My favourite gen is gen 4. Because
- Good gameplay
- Gallade
- Very comfy music
- Graphics are nice to look at
- Gallade
- Professor Rowan in my opinion has best design from all professors, he looks very wise
- Gallade
- Legendaries are awesome.
- Team galactic is nice to fight with and their boss is really a good villain
- Maylene's feet
- Gallade
- And most importantly. Best Gym leader battle theme.
- Also, Gallade
drawing is hard.
only in crystal
Ampharos
what a cutie.
definitely not competitively, cool mons get shafted due to no phys/special split and lack of good abilities introduced in gen 4-5
my man
Thank you for proving that Gen 2 fags are superficial and shallow.
Isn't Smogon Gen 2 just turtling?
>competitive pokemon
but it's missing scanlines and ntsc color bleed
zoomers will never get that sense of wonder assisted by raw imagination
Basically. Snorlax and SkarmBliss make it impossible to get anywhere so you have to whittle them down before matches are allowed to proceed
Pokemon peaked at gen 1
Seething
are you implying that pokemon has deep gameplay or something? gotta know before i can write you a proper reply
Well it's deeper than people give it credit for. 800+ critters all with different stat spreads pushing then to different roles. Differing passive abilities in conjunction with equippable passive abilities. Hundreds of moves with varying secondary effects. RPS gameplay subverted by the fact you can learn moves outside your type. Field modifiers that hurt and help different types depending on situation. The ability to boost and nerf stats and status ailments. That's actually a fucking lot for a children's rpg
this
i bet the person ur replying to would get whooped in netplay
>you can just use pikachu to kill everything
ebin game
yeah i probably would, that doesn't make it a good competitive game
as for single player, yeah there are lots of mechanics but in practice in any given game you can just juggernaut your starter, spam STAB moves, buy full restores and revives, and, if you want to really get wild with it, throw a master ball at a legendary so you can have not one, but two level 70s in the endgame. i was beating these games when i could hardly read
reminder that you arent playing the real game unless youre battling players
Battling players is gay
Well this is Game freaks fault. Either they don't understand how their own game works. Or they're so afraid of alienating their player base with difficulty that they won't use any of it
No, its gen 5.
Reach
>real game blows ass
>voltorb flip
how bad did dragons get fucked in gen 6/7 i never played anything past bw2
I want to play B2W2 but I hate the protagonist designs but I don't have the autism to import bw protag in the game
Dragons used to be everywhere in Gen 5. Now there's only 5 in OU top 30. It's all about the Fairies and the Steel types that can murder them.
>steel types are now chads
i like this news, but seriously im reading up on fairy type, they seem a bit up being only weak to posion and steel while countering dragon and fighting two popular types, kinda bs if you ask me
>phone
What a useless feature.
>some faggot brags about his rattata or some shit constantly
>guy with something actually useful never calls you
Well that's the problem. No one fucking uses Poison or Steel offensively. Meaning the only guys who can kill them are the guys who don't usually attack. This also means that Ice type doesn't exist anymore. They were already struggling because Water types do everything they do without the crippling weakness to Rocks. But now Fairy has usurped them as the dragon slayers, their one niche. So Ice type is dead, there's only like 2 of them left.
Gen 2 is great.
Only complaint is the amount of EXP you get from battles near the end of the Johto region. Your party is around 30 but only level 20 Pokemon show up.
Cringe. The remakes fucking blowed.
This is the peak of pokemon.
github.com
The peak of Pokémon is PMD
what the fuck is that machop arm
>not Sky Peak
The SUPERPOWER pokemon is swole as fuck. Shocking.
that arm's longer than its fucking body.
USUM is the only pokemon game you will ever need, it's pokemon perfected.
UNBELIEVABLY shit taste mate.
bait
hey hey you're not allowed to like that game here
>HGSS didn't have the VS Seeker even though Platinum had it
I missed the VS Seeker too, but it was probably deemed a bit rebundant since HGSS had the phone for rematches.
Even with its obvious flaws, this is still the best Pokemon game.
hgss butchered the music too
youtube.com
youtube.com
It's trash.
The pokewalker's actually pretty OP. You could get some pretty powerful mons with it insanely early
>hgss butchered the music
youtube.com
God I hate the soundfont they used.
>says this without saying what he doesn't like
Hate the game if you want, but fucking say why you hated it. So tired of people doing this for every game ever.
>Why
GYM leaders still have all gen 1 pokemon, duplicates and shit teams in general.
Gen 2 pokemon are very uncommon while gen 1 pokemon are everywhere, you can catch rattata on every route but sentret is only on like 2 as an example.
The level curve is fucking retarded.
Cutscenes and handholding everywhere slowing the game down greatly.
Kanto is still dead and empty.
The music is shitty and unfitting.
Gameboy sounds option is locked behind fucking postgame.
Human characters and rocket executives went from Ken Sugimori designs to retarded circus freak caricatures.
I disagree with some of it, but I can see why some of it can be pretty off putting. Surprised you didn't mention the forced trip to Bell Tower/Whirl Islands.
It's more the straw that broke the camels back. I don't think people care as much as they say, but year after year of the same animations, the fact that they seem to always go one step forward and three steps back, GF not even bothering to patch them in, the fact that they say it's for balance(Bullshit), KANTOOOOOOOOOOOOOO shilling, what's supposed to be their 1st series entry on to a main Nintendo console-- only to be met with GC-tier graphics and the aforementioned same animations-- add all of that, and that's why people are sick of GF.
Easiest Pokemon game ever made but it has best atmosphere
>pouring our heart
they ripped the heart out of the games long ago
>GC tier graphics
Don't insult the Orre games like that.
>A mode that’s rigged is better than another mode that’s rigged
