A few years ago I started playing a hardcore New Vegas game, with an in-character journal. I forget why; I guess I thought all those day-one Skyrim guys had fun. I don't know if they did. Anyway, I started. Then a lot of my life happened and I didn't play the game for about 5 years. I want to continue.
The journal was first-person and I wrote an entry every time I encountered something new and wrote it like he were writing it. He's a drunk and lech, loves energy weapons but is not (and never will be) skilled in using them. From his perspective, he's only done quests for selfish reasons or he's literally wandered into them; He does not pay attention most of the time. (He thinks the Boomers are a religious cult and killing the ants in their 'dark room' was some sort of initiation ritual. Once they told him to go raise the plane out of Lake Mead he just 'walked away, casually.')
Because he's a bit of a dullard, or easily confused, House telling him to go see Caesar and to "do something" over there, has lead me to a bit of a problem: The Caesar story is very short. In character he has stumbled and fumbled his way to Caesar's door and if he goes through that door, he's probably going to side with Caesar. Every NPC running at him and asking him to do something for them has made him sympathetic towards the Legion, who have never done anything to bother him.
What should I do? I've got a book at 228 pages, both sides, and I've used about 52 pages. Almost to the first "subject break" which I figured would work as a kind of natural chapter-line. If I side with Caesar the book is essentially done, now. He's already written off House as a boring wing-bag and unless I push him (as an outside entity, aware of the story) he'll never meet Yes-Man. He's an NCR citizen, as written, but he's about as engaged politically as a can of tuna.
Do you think I should, as the writer, intercede and send him off on a series of dumb side-quests before the game forces him to pick a side?
I considered this. I can maybe show you some of the sketches in it, but if I was ever going to post the whole thing, I'd want it to be done. Or doner than it is.
I may have sequence-broke to get Lupa's brain before the game said I should, but don't worry I wrote like two and half pages explaining it. In-character.
user no offense but... this is pretty autistic. Still, it looks good and you should keep making it if you want to.
Ryder Hernandez
Get laid mate and dont keep a fucking journal while playing, nobody does that
Ryan Lee
If having fun makes me gay, then I'm as gay as a daisy in May.
Cameron Davis
Way too long for me to read, but that image is wrong. If you travel North upriver from Cottonwood Cove you'll find an unmarked stretch of land called "Deathclaw Promontory" where you, as you may guess, fight lots of deathclaws. You get rewarded with a unique piece of armor.
Based as fuck I wish I could get this into an RPG. Also considering your character is an NCR citizen maybe the meeting with Caesar and hearing about what he intends to make of the NCR might be a wake up call to even the most disengaged person.
Fair point. I'll probably use your justification, since right now I have no other way to keep this book from ending before I've gotten to even a single DLC.
Benjamin Hughes
This is fantastic. I want to see more of the journal
Easton Watson
I believe I've shown you every doodle in it that wasn't an establishing shot; The dinosaur in front of Novac, the sign in front of Goodsprings, and other stuff like that. There's some stupid stuff on the cover, but it's just like "highschool notebook" stuff. Little explosions and knives. Splats of blood.
I should say, my character is keeping one "pre-war book" and a pencil in his inventory at all times to keep this coherent. But I seem to recall one of the DLCs stripping you of your processions. At least one of them does. Maybe I'll write that whole section on different paper, in different ink.
Elijah Reyes
You ever plan on posting the journal somewhere, like DeviantArt of something.
Hunter Roberts
Not really. I was just going to finish it and leave it on a shelf or in a drawer somewhere. If I should write it through to the literal end, then all it is, is a story like any other. There is a run of like 7 pages where I didn't draw anything and I kick myself when thumbing through it.
I mean, if it was done, done and I felt like it was neat-o-worth-a-damn, I might post it to a... I've got a blogspot blog I used to upload a comic strip, I was posting on Yea Forums.
There is plenty of shit in that "empty" space. It's just not marked.
Connor Gutierrez
The premise is that if you side with that side of the river, the story is very short. The Legion are under-written and there are not many side-quests for them. Don't be so literal.
I'm probably going to go with that guy's premise:
Adam Young
Do you play on PC? There are some mods that overhaul and expand the Legion if you are looking for that.
Landon Diaz
These look like the scribblings of a mentally diseased retard.
The definite upside to keeping an in-character journal, with timestamps and SPECIAL and stuff like that, is if I say "no, I was playing this on a 360" then it doesn't matter because I can translate the game over to a PC game if I want.
Also, I started on a 360, then picked up on my PS3, but then it shit the bed and I went back to my wife's 360. It's all been contiguous. I just gotta follow my own footsteps and the story stays the same.
It's only about two hours of gameplay, so if I wanted to start a PC game, I'd have it coherent and ready to go in no time. What are those mods like? What do they do for the Legion?
Ian Sullivan
Honestly i would tell you to kys
But this shit is too good, and the drawings even more, post them, or make em a short series
Logan King
To be fair is character looks like a mentally diseased retard
William Wood
These are unironically very good, definitely some SOUL in here. Thank you for putting a smile on my face
Shit like this. New areas (what you want), a new companion and new items. There's another mod called "Honest Hearts Reborn" which adds a Legion presence to Zion and in turn provides an alternate path for the player to follow to complete the DLC.
Owen Campbell
I have as well but the problem is I don't really plan ahead if I do a RP character. I might start a vague idea in my head and expand upon it as I play the game and think about how they'd feel about X story event or Y npc or come up with bits of his backstory as I go along, so it might contradict earlier entries.

Does he have a negative reputation? I know he ports lots of models from other games but I don't think that's given him a bad impression.
Alexander Cruz
This is actually fantastic, user. I wish I could enjoy videogames that much.
Got any tips on how to get into and keep at RP shit like this OP? I've been wondering about trying something like this for a while now, maybe without the drawings. Only problem I'd have is being worried about someone finding the the fucking thing since I live with two others.
this is actually cute. you did this when you were like 14, yeah?
Brandon Martin
I don't have a reaction pic saved that displays the sheer volume of disgust this image fills me with
Brayden Campbell
Not OP, but it's all strong self control.
The best option is not always the right option, even when it may ruin things, you pick it because it's what your character would do. It's hard, but eventually you'll get used to it.
Christian Bailey
>want to boot up New Vegas again >but then I remember how hard it is to use guns effectively
Jackson Carter
28, actually.
But yeah, it's all in good fun.
Grayson Parker
Looks like shit

Jesus fucking christ these look horrible.

I think it's honest hearts, whatever one has the sierra madre casino is the one that takes all your stuff.
Anthony Wood
fuck nevermind it's dead money for sure.
Aiden Evans
Just do it, write synopsis of each play session and make remakers on things like glitches Level up guns and dont miss.
Oliver Sanders
these suck but what the fuck is going on with judy nash in particular.
Hudson Wood
>came to laugh at OP's journal autism, ended up smiling warmly n-nice.
A part of me wants to bully and roast you but the teenager in me wants to invite you over to my parents house so we can smoke weed in my garage and play dungeons and dragons with dirty mike and the boys
Wow. That's pretty much how I'd love to play RPGs. Ever since GTA 3 I've viewed games in my head with my own little story and push the player character towards events I thought made sense with what was going on in my head and in game, but to actually write about it and think about what would be a more organic way to finish the story, just wow. Hats off to you, you have the levels of autism I wish I had. Maybe consider actually writing a book, who knows you might actually be decent at it.
