They said the PS2 was a supercomputer on a chip. I don't know how they get away with these statements.

Ps2 was about 300x more times powerful than the PS1.
The PS1 was about 100x more powerful than the N64.
The Dreamcast was basically the N64 so......

It really sounds like Yea Forums is just salty than sony is superior.

They made a 128-bit processor no one knew how to use effectively, same thing happened with the Cell. There’s a reason the PS4 is x86-64.

What??? N64 better then ps1

Look at FFX and tell me they couldn't have made DOA look like the right image on PS2.

It was a lazy port.

Is anything Sony has ever said true?

Didn't they literally the source code to that DoA to emulate it on PS2?

i dont think FFX is really a good example but yes, it was just a lazy port.
but dont tell shitposters that.

they only like sticking with their own stories to enforce their own narrative.

It is, but DC games ported over to PS2 looked like shit. Games like shenmue pushed the DC. I dont think we could have ever seen something like FF12 or Shadow of the Colossus on DC. Even early HL1 ports struggled on the DC, yet Ps2 ran an upgraded version of it.

Dreamcast couldn't handle the fog.

I mean if you he Dreamcast survived we'd still be getting games on 3 discs up until 2004 with load times up the wazoo

>tries to make a point by cherrypicking shitty ports
How about comparing the actual specs?

>i dont think FFX is really a good example
M8, I don't like that game much either but it was absolutely gorgeous at the time. and it came at the beginning of the PS2's life cycle

lol what the fuck

It could do 128-bit SIMD instructions but that's nothing special, every other 6th gen console had that as well except the DC. To the best of my knowledge nobody has made a 128-bit CPU because it's incredibly overkill.

In raw power, probably. Dreamcast came with some neat tricks, especially in the department of 3d development and transparency, but I think you can pull up actual numbers than put PS2 ahead.

I remember being blown away at FFX's graphics when it was released.

They trade blows, but PS2 do have some really strong blows.
Basically in terms of image quality in general the DC is better. 640x480 for every game, texture compression, some neat depth buffer effects.

But the PS2 have an HUMONGOUS fill rate, it is better at transparency than the PS3, 4 and 5 if they aim for 4k.
Also the PS2 have much bigger polygonal count that allowed it to have pivotal games such as GTA 3.

Nothing Sony ever said was true

>games needed multiple discs and you had to buy a separate peripheral for such a basic function as saving
>loading times after literally everything you did
>wobbly and/or blurry 3d graphics
>3rd person camera was all over the place
What a horrid time.

>The Dreamcast was basically the N64 so......

Attached: IMG_0810.jpg (522x450, 30K)

What's a fill rate?

The proper term is soulful time.

>console kicks the bucket
>don't lose your saves because memory cards can just be moved while HDDs are usually encrypted
Memory Cards are a wired vs wireless controller kind of trade off.

Jesus christ snoyboys just love pulling shit out of their ass don't they?

Sony also said that it can run Toy Story in real time

Dreamcast games had peak aesthetic. PSO looked great and so did SoulCalibur

bruh.wav

iirc sony asked tecmo for a working build itagaki gave them a build that ran but wasnt intended as the final product and took it and published it w/o him knowing and thats why he held a grudge against sony

Back in the day, they literally said that the ps2 was more powerful than the Deep Blue IBM super computer.

It is a very good example, why not?

Was it?

I mean...MGS 2 and 3, FF10, 10-2, 11, 12, silent hill 2 and 3, Jak Trilogy, sly Cooper, ratchet and clank, all these games looked galaxies ahead of dream cast, dreamcast looked good during its brief lime light, but it was never as powerful as ps2, and that was the weakest of the big 3 hardware wise.

looks like switch vs anything now lol

Technical limitations usually bring about soul, but the things I listed are just annoying shit.

Yeah, I actually don't have anything against memory cards, but I thought it was a pretty jew move to put saving behind a "paywall".

Didn't PS2 come with a memory card?

I have a vague memory of that being the case, at least with the original model.

It's how many pixels per second the video chip can draw.
And the PS2 can draw MANY pixels per second.

This is evidence that graphics have never ever been the deciding factor for success and is why i feel like the only sane man who thinks "it's graphics are better!" being used as a way to win a argument is a joke.

No.

No unless it was a regional thing or store promotion.

>N64
>Not 64x more powerful than the PS1

soul soulless

More or less. He got depressed for a while, then came back and released DOA 2 Hardcore for the PS2
eurogamer.net/articles/2012-02-09-itagaki-tecmo-tricked-me-into-releasing-unfinished-dead-or-alive-2

Early DC-to-PS2 ports like DOA were rough, but that was solely down to PS2's weird hardware and rough development tools vs. the very polished and straightforward DC SDK.

The PS2 was doing stuff the DC couldn't pretty quickly after that.

whatever bait your selling, i'm buying
how the fuck is the dreamcast an N64?

Attached: 1541179909034.jpg (1200x675, 63K)

Well how does that translate in practice, because PS2 games don't really look good

Attached: d7E8sX7.png (1334x750, 2.25M)

Nope. Parents got me and my siblings a PS2 for Christmas, with a spare controller and a game for each of us, but didn't buy any memory cards. Instead, the next day, we went out and had to buy our own memory cards.

Compare it to any open-world DC game. Oh wait, there aren’t any.

ok thanks for the facts, Trump.

Completely forgot about this one

And the one that sony said the ps2 would not be sold in Iraq because the ps2 was so powerful you could use it to make guiding systems for rockets.

4 more years hahahahaha. Did you see the democrat candidates at the debates? OH NO NO NO NO NO

Based onions-n-

now, to be entirely fair, the ducks in a bath is a real game, called super rub a dub

>Was it true when Sony said that PS2 is much more powerful than Dreamcast?
Yes.
youtube.com/watch?v=TGTR0G2xC1E

Honestly, I wish savegames could be copied to a controller's onboard memory. This way you could go to your friend's house with just your controller (which you are bringing anyways to play couch co-op) and you'd have all your savegames with you in case you wanted to play on your save (i.e. because you have more unlocked characters in a fighting game). Just imagine not having to open the save upload/download dialog on the PS4 because the saves are stored on the controller itself.

ps2 could push higher polys but it always seemed like dreamcast had better textures. also dreamcast ports to ps2 were generally sloppy and had lighting issues.

however regarding doa 2, every single version (even on the same console between regions) changed the game slightly. loading up doa 2 hardcore ps2 japanese version shows the same level with the same graphics as launch doa 2 ps2. they did intend to add that distance fog and it wasn't a porting error. like here they tried to add more shape to kasumi's shoulders and new lighting to make the outfit shiny.

It's a novel idea but it would lead to exploits out the ass in online games. Also it would increase costs of controller significantly, probably up to nearly $100 USD.

woah, you're so fucking stupid
don't pull shit out of your ass and post it ever again.

yes, the dreamcast couldn't even play DVDs, which are essentially just really long FMVs

This here.
Also Dead or Alive 2 Harcore was incomplete and Tecmo had to trick Itagaki to release it:
wired.com/2012/02/itagaki-dice-2012/
>"All of the staff, led by me, fought for a victory with all their energy," Itagaki said through an onstage translator. "But unfortunately, the result wasn't what we expected."
>As the deadline of the PlayStation 2's launch grew closer, the company's sales general manager approached Itagaki at his desk.
>"Can I borrow a copy of this so I can play it a little?" Itagaki remembers the manager saying.
>"I said, sure, yeah, go on, and I handed him the disc which was still under development," Itagaki said. "But this disc was never played by them."
>Instead, Itagaki said to the crowd of game developers and executives, "it was taken into a factory for production on that day without me knowing it."
>Tecmo, Itagaki said, "made a huge profit." But the release of what he called an unfinished game sent Itagaki into a spiral of depression.

It does sometimes.
Just compare the SH2 fog and MGS 2 rain on PS2 to ANY other port.

>Marketers and advertising lie to you
Revelation of the century right here.

Holy shit are those subtitles hard to follow.

Deus Ex is hardly a fair comparison and looked dated even for PC games of 2000

the fuck is wrong with those subtitles, why would anyone think this is a good idea

They are from the youtube automatically generated transcript, so yeah they're a mess, but since we can't use sounds webums here is that for now.

>Ps2 was about 300x more times powerful than the PS1.
>The PS1 was about 100x more powerful than the N64.
>The Dreamcast was basically the N64 so......
Have your (you), you deserve it for bait this fresh.

left has soul

No i don't mean the text itself, thats fine, I mean how it updates.
Normal subtitles either replace both lines at once or they always replace the bottom line with the new one, but these these keep alternating and its really hard to follow I have literally never seen this before

This is your brain on $oyni

>Ni-oh
>Cancelled
Retard.

Just turn on auto subs on youtube and you'll see how magical it is.
Here another example.

Attached: It didn't just died, it was murdered.webm (1254x616, 2.47M)

It was a PS3 exclusive that was cancelled at least back in 2013.

Again the issue isn't the engrish it's how the subtitles are displayed.
This is fine since its adding new lines at the bottom of the screen, if your reading ahead of the speed/at the same speed then you just always read the bottom most line.
Ridgu Raceru however has you swapping between lines since it seems to change which ones get new text at random.

With games. Seems the other companies forget about those.

>it would lead to exploits out the ass in online games
who actually cares
I thought online was cool 10 years ago when it was picking up speed but I wish it would stop being such a cancer on the face of video gaming now that online is sucking the fun out of some games because they need to be balanced and sterile or the mobakiddies will screech
