Well, it’s one of those flawed gems. Artistically and narratively it’s fucking beautiful but it’s boring as fuck to play outside of any spectacle so if gameplay is what you base the sole experience on then it won’t be for you. It’s one of the few games that legit made me feel dirty afterwards and it gets points for that. It’s very, very bleak.

AMR was too long. It should have ended at the 5 hour mark, like the original.
It's the same problem McGee had with Scrapland. Too ambitious in length without the gameplay to support it.

You can buy the sequel on Origin. I think only some physical copies came with the original game though and unless you want to get a used copy then you have to pirate that one

I tried a couple other versions but they had HUD problems, the one in that link has widescreen working with no issues.

No, it's a good action platformer that got screwed over partway through. The pacing of the back half just feels like an extension of what you spent the first half learning and not in a good way, but it's all rather competent mechanically. That all said, the first game is absolutely superior aside from the hair physics.

MR had fantastic art direction. The gameplay just got stale really fast while the game never seemed to end. 3 hours in you've seen basically all the mechanics and obstacle types and it never changes for the remaining 17 or so hours.

It's been in pre production for over a year now and they're currently in talks with different publishers for the funding. America still needs to gather a devteam to work on the game and hes already been scouting around Southeast Asia, mainly in Thailand. From what I've gathered from his streams, his still dead set on having the game finished around 2021-2022 so things are moving along, though he cannot discuss the specifics because of signing multiple NDAs with different parties.

There wasn't too much info about the plans for the story but it kind of felt like a remake of what's already been done. I think I'd like to play the original in virtual reality, seeing some of the in-game effects in first person VR might be amazing.

Madness Returns wasn't an amazing platformer but it was beautiful and interesting to play through. The art, music, levels, characters and the atmosphere together was something really great.

EA fucked it as they're wont to do, looking at all the cut content and knowing it didn't make it into the game sucks

there is something so special about the first games setting to me that i feel would be very difficult to replicate, plus its that very rare story situation of delving into psychosis with a female lead and its done really well.
