Sony seems to have this idealized image in their mind about what the Playstation "brand" should be about: Western AAA singleplayer games with "deep" and emotional stories. You can probably attribute it to Naughty Dog's success from the 7th generation, but the pivot is really obvious when you see the homogenized design decisions creep up in nearly all of Sony's 1st party games (Horizon, God of War, Day's Gone, Ghosts of Tsushima, etc.).

They have completely moved away from developing any First Party AA, experiential titles this past console generation. Japan Studio used to put out a whole bunch of funky mid-tier games back during the 6th and 7th gens. Now they're mostly being used as grunt work for collaborations (Bloodborne) or inconsequential shit (Knack, Astro Bot). That studio has not seen any sizable investment at all in a decade, meanwhile fucking awful studios like Ready at Dawn and Bend Studio get the budgets to work on garbage like The Order 1886 and Days Gone.

Japan Studio has a single decent team right now, Team Siren, and even when they manage to put out a game Sony fucks it up. They outright refuse to market any game that looks too "Japanese" because doesn't fit in with the "Playstation" brand image of mature, cinematic Western AAA games they're trying to sell. Remember 2016 where they had Gravity Rush 2, Persona 5, Nioh, Yakuza 0, and Nier all coming out as (at the time) PS4 exclusives? Sony literally never marketed a single one in any significant capacity, none of these games were given a single minute of showtime during E3. Then they wonder why games like Gravity Rush 2 bomb and those developers don't get the budgets they should.

As I already said on other threads, games went downhill after the PS2 era because of graphics whoring. AAA games need to play safe to make a profit and AA games can't keep up with them on the marketing department because people want pretty games.

It's like everyone forgets that the top selling of these super niche fan service things was Senran Kagura Shinovi Versus on Vita that barely sold over 100,000 copies and since then every single game in its series on top of every single other one of these fan service games has been selling less and less because it stopped being a novelty.
It's also ignoring that the line has been progressively pushed over and over again since that game released to see what they could get away with. It's not like playstation had a 20 year history of degenerate top selling games to begin with, if anything it was more a fad that came in to being because the Vita tanked and fan service games were one of the only things besides DRPGs that consistently would sell in the 30,000 copy range.

That's why i don't like current Sony. If it was the PS1 and PS2 Sony i wouldn't have any problem, but since that fucking game everything has gotten worse. So, logically, there must be a why people who wouldn't buy your products before would start to buy it. If only there was some way of knowing what large groups in society want. If only...

Porting games has never been cheaper or easier to do. PS5 is going to be backwards compatible so doing a Switch and PS4 version would be extremely easy and maximize the amount of people that have access to the game, and AA games need every sale they can get.
