Does that mod fix LUCT's awful post-game content, or is it still a tedious grind fest like always? The SNES/PSX version of LUCT is better than FFT but the PSP version is as you said. They're two completely different experiences and I have no idea how they allowed it to be so grindy and tedious in the remakes.

Absolutely. It levels much faster (especially skills and finishers) but the biggest thing is that the mod rebalances equipment and skills so to be more realistic. So someone hitting with an iron sword would do about as much as someone many levels higher., though their chance of success would obviously be lower. You can manage characters 20 levels higher if you prepare yourself well enough. I played it a bit and it was great, looking forward to playing it in full soon.

I've tried. Used to really be into JRPGs but now I just keep seeing how they pad these games out and it's ruining my enjoyment. Tried Xenoblade 2, Tales of Vesperia, Octopath Traveller. Didn't get far in any of them. Persona 5 was the last JRPG I finished and I had to slog through it. I think that was the breaking point for me.

Persona 5 is the longest JRPG i've ever played. most JRPGs last about 30-50 hours at best. Persona 5 on the other hand, you can easily go over 100 hours played.

Have you tried 3 and 10-2? Mary Skelter also has a job system but it's a sex appeal game if you can stomach that.

I kinda dislike playing turn-based RPGs but some JRPGs have soundtracks so good that it's ridiculous.

I'm using the Slaughter Shield with its 100 base defence to juice up Shield Smite / Shield Rush. It makes her pretty squishy but the damage output is about 50% higher than my landsknecht's fully ramped Heavy Smash and gunner's Ricochet.

You can try jumping straight in but I doubt it'll make much sense. The game's pretty light hearted anyway unlike FFX which is more of a typical serious FF. But is just play them both since they're both good games

Just suck it up and play Dragon Quest VII. Just make sure to stick to one job line per character, there’s no reason to max out multiple jobs on anyone except to unlock advanced vocations (or monster vocations).

Bought Death End Re:quest before a holiday and now booted it up for the first time yesterday and the game doesn't fucking scale the effects with resolution so even at 4k it looks like 720p. Ys IV, Ys VIII, Hyperdimension Neptunia Victory just to name a few.
I'm just not playing a JRPG right now so kindly fuck off.

VIII is pretty good, though it overstays its welcome a bit at a whopping 60+ hours. Jumping/platforming is back which is a small step in the direction of Origin/Felghana. Exploration and sidequesting was fun but a bit on the easy side since the game is very lenient with quest markers.
It unfortunately retains the Flash guard system you may have been using in Seven unless you missed it because the game never really tells you about it and also has Flash dodge which Celceta introduced.
Celceta is a piece of shit that won't run properly on my machine, but from what little I played it felt like Seven.

Like, achievable in one solid playthrough, no need to play the game 10+ times or grind a nigh-unkillable enemy for hours to fill out every single bestiary entry. That shit was fucked, so I skipped it and settled for a single clear on Nightmare.

I have played Phantasy Star, the first one. It was alright but definitely not anywhere near as fun as Earthbound. Not being able to select an enemy makes random battles harder than boss fights. And that last dungeon was a pure slog, and Lassic is basically impossible if you don't bring all the best equipment the game has to offer. I'd be interested in the others but I hear 2 has an enormous dungeon you spend like 4 hours in, not that far into the game.

And DQ looks really boring every time I watch a video. I'm a bit bored of high fantasy. Is it actually worth it? Certainly the first few games look dull and really grindy

not him but here's my point of view

the Arland games at least (haven't really played the others, only Ayesha for a bit) are 50% cute girl SoL. You know the term iyashikei? That's how the plots feel, even the more dramatic Totori plot ends up on the heartwarming side. Lots of fanservice too, like bathing girls.

The other 50% are merciless number crunching, free form exploration and lots I mean LOTS OF CRAFTING. When you're an Atelier pro, you're basically an Islamic terrorist - all your thoughts will revolve about making the deadliest bombs. The games have very many endings, and to fulfill all the true endings/clear post games you need meticulous planning.

V has the best story. IV is fun because you get to play as different parties, I can't comment on VI since I haven't played it yet. There's an amazing remake of DQVII on 3DS.
I-III is old school fun but you either need to play the ROMs, GBC ports or mobile ports.

well I'm not sure if you'll be able to enjoy the Alefgard trilogy 1-3. Try the DS/mobile versions of 4 and 5. Also 6 if you're bored, it's one of the more mediocre titles.

I finished Caligula Effect Overdose. I sunk 80 hours into it doing the causal link, but the ending was so underwhelming.

Actually everything that was a holdover from the original release was underwhelming, including dungeons and social links (except of course the songs), while the new content was really fun. I hope they'll make a sequel someday with a more developed world.
