Genuinely curiosity, what percentage do you use your switch undocked vs docked, and why?
I'd say I use mine unducked at least 90% of the time. If not more. I like watching something on the TV while I play it. I only really dock it when I have friends over who wanna play smash or something.
I dunno, I just like portables a lot. The Gameboy colour was my only console for like 12 years cause we were poor, I guess it's just what I'm used to.
Mine's usually undocked. Either so I can play a game while either laying in bed or watching a video, or so I can watch a video or play a simple puzzle game while walking back and forth to stretch my legs and get a bit of exercise in.
Anthony Howard
I'm almost always undocked, i just prefer playing games lying down. I only really ever play docked when i have friends over
Brayden Rogers
Almost always handheld
Might switch to docked though because my second set of joycons is starting to drift
Alexander Bell
I like to use undocked more than docked.
I’m a big fan of online handheld games so I think that’s why I prefer undocked.
Tyler Hall
These days 95%undocked, I like it more and my left joycon keeps disconnecting while undocked making it shitty to play. I could use my ps4 controller as well since I have a stock for the dock but even that likes to sometimes disconnect. There might be some interference or something from other devices
Brayden Richardson
Wow, so far 100% in favour of undocked.
Gotta say, I'm a little surprised.
Gabriel Sanders
For the first 2 years, it was basically all undocked unless I was playing Xenoblade. Now it's about 50/50. It really depends what type of game you're playing.
Sebastian Taylor
docked always, maybe if I was on some trip I'd play it portable but I've honestly always HATED portables. I hate the tiny screen, I hate holding the things, I hate craning my neck down to look at it for hours.
Sebastian Long
60-40 weighted towards docked overall, but I actually never play handheld strictly. Lying in bed with the joycons detached and switch propped up on a book is super comfy.
Really depends on the games you're playing. Sometimes it feels like it actually runs better undocked, for some reason atelier lulua ran pretty shittily when docked but ran acceptably undocked. Some weird slowdowns. Must be a resolution thing or they upped the effects too much. And also Gust has always been shit at optimizing things
Oliver Mitchell
Not really, except for Xenoblade. That game was just not optimized for handheld.
It actually varies by game. BotW, for example, run much smoother undocked. I don't think I've played anything yet that's unacceptably different in one mode vs the other.
Oliver Kelly
99% docked, I hate being unaware of my surroundings when outside so I don't even hear music. At home I have no reason to play undocked.
Nathaniel Taylor
hows that even possible
Levi Russell
Mostly docked till I can be bothered to go get a screen protector. I only got mine when MM2 came out.
Carson Roberts
Variable resolution locked at 720p. Different LoD settings in handheld and other minor tweaks, especially for details you cannot really make out. Even when you set the TV settings at 720p docked it doesn't help. Maybe the variable res just super samples then.
Jack Murphy
always undocked, why the fuck would i play a shitty 30 fps game when i have a computer with 144 hrz monitor, i have way better options if im gunna sit down a stare at a monitor
Nolan Nelson
about 50% docked and 50% undocked
Luis Brown
Lower baseline resolution + you can get away with more dynamic res on a small screen. Honestly I wish I had the option for force 720p docked for BotW. It's clear the 900 it tries to run at wasn't what the game was built for.
Aiden Ramirez
What would you need a screen protector for?
Thomas Ortiz
I heard you can scratch the screen easily. I'm not sure if thats true, but isnt it better to make the small investment to keep the screen from getting damaged?
Robert Gonzalez
docked almost exclusively. I almost never play video games unless I'm at home, and I like it on the TV
Owen Russell
That's a myth, a screen protector isn't going to protect anything.
Nolan Bennett
this is true. I accidentally scratched the screen when I was fucking taking it out of the box when I first bought it.
Noah Morgan
50/50 here probably maybe slightly more docked than undocked. Just depend what I’m playing. Splatoon or DOOM or BoTW then docked something comfy chill like Into The Breach or Tetris99 or Hollow Knight then undocked it is.
Austin Brown
50/50
I'd do undocked more if the Switch was more comfortable. I mostly just do handheld for RPGs.
Jason Richardson
70% docked, 30% handheld
I usually play RPGs docked and puzzles in handheld. Racing games always docked.
Wyatt Parker
The screen is a durable flexible plastic. It’s more scratch resistant than cheap shit but nowhere near as resistant as phone glass. It’s honestly the right option for the Switch because it’s ridiculously flexible and if dropped won’t shatter. Getting a glass screen protector will prevent you from getting any major permanent scratches on the screen, and is removable if you somehow manage to crack it
Austin Ross
95% docked. Like the feel of the big controller and the big screen. And for the most I only have big games in it, nothing indie or made for portable per se
Kevin Nelson
undocked mostly unless I'm playing with family/friends or if I wanna really tryhard in splat 2 with gyro
Sebastian Sanders
My Yuzu Emulator is docked in my PC tower, because I refuse to play any game lower then 720p / 40~50fps.
There's not a long enough power cord from the outlet to my bed and I'm too lazy to get up and dock it so i tend to just play it in bed until it runs out of batteries.
Elijah Cook
Docked 98% of the time. Especially when I'm playing online because I really prefer a wired/LAN connection instead of Wi-Fi.
I've never used it much portable, I don't see the reason to... yet.
Connor Clark
>switch came out 2+ years ago
What the fuck
Matthew Russell
Congrats, you're a disgusting causal
Parker Sullivan
I keep it docked. The only time I used it undocked was the initial setup and one time my power went out while playing BOTW. I don't want to drop it despite how many people tell me how durable it is. I used to drop my DS and PSP when I fell asleep while playing it.
I played docked 99 percent of the time with my PS4 controller through the 8 Bit Do USB adapter. The main reason for this is that I don't want to ever use those stupid shitcons to play videogames. Not only are they objectively some of the worst first-party controllers I've ever played, they're overpriced as hell.
That's why I want to keep the shitcons untouched and in pristine condition so that I never have to buy replacements for them ever again.
Alexander Torres
Why the fuck would you watch TV while playing? Something is seriously wrong with nincels. I use mine docked 95% of the time. The quality of how the game looks is already pretty abysmal docked. I can barely stand it undocked.
Thomas Ramirez
>Why the fuck would you watch TV while playing? loading times. you PCfags wouldn't understand
Henry Stewart
Since I travel a lot for work, I have been enjoying everything the switch has to offer, undocked. I’m about to get Skyrim for the Switch, is that port worth it?
100% docked but FE and AC are probably going to change that since I've gotten used to playing them in bed
Colton Harris
99% docked. I'm not the biggest fan of handhelds.
Grayson Gomez
Undocked, but some more intense shit like Xenoblade I play docked
Jeremiah Thompson
I do it while grinding
Jonathan Johnson
100% in handheld mode. My dock is somewhere in my closet.
Xavier Taylor
This convinces me that a switch mini or a true handheld is what people really want since many like handheld
Logan Diaz
100% docked, don't even own a tv anymore
Alexander Bell
99% docked, but I like the fact that I can pull it out of the dock anytime I need to do something quick and I don't wanna switch the input on my monitor. It also gives me the same vibe as a Game Boy Player in that I'm gonna play most games on my TV with it but if I ever need to I can take them with me. Even if I don't take advantage of it it's just nice to know I have the option.
I would've killed for a console like this when ACNL was current and I was in college. The ability to both play that shit between classes and then come home to play it on a full sized display is really nice. Don't really have many opportunities to take it places these days though.
Mine's usually docked unless I want to be using my computer at the same time (hooked up to the same monitor) or I want to use the touch screen for some reason.
Andrew Jones
once i get a tv probably like 60% docked
Jack Nguyen
Played docked a few times; had it 2 years. Dock hasn't been hooked up for ages. Purely undocked for me - like, 99%.
Hudson Turner
How do I stop my switch from getting dusty while docked or friction when sliding it into dock?
Lucas Campbell
its about 50/50 I have about an hour commute on public transportation every day so i like to play on the train pretty often. Although I do get sketched out cus there are so many sketchballs in this town. I always used docked at home though.
Easton Turner
Docked maybe 99% of the time until SMM2 came out. Now it's out purely so I can build until it needs to be charged again.
Kayden King
The switch especifically I always undock it and keep it in the case when I'm not playing, my other consoles I just cover them up when I'm done playing.
Matthew Ward
>sketched out Please explain.
Carter Reyes
Ive seen homeless people fight each other on the trains, seen drunk assholes fall and crack their skulls open, seen people get robbed etc. Shit is whack.
Jordan Gray
ni[advertiser friendly!]ers want to steal his switch and sell it for crack money
Sebastian White
More undocked than docked. I rarely play with my TV nowadays, but when I do play it docked, it's because I volunteered my Switch on most local SSBU tourneys
Asher Sanchez
Thanks anos, I love in a third world shithole and playing my switch on the subway would get me stabbed. I always take it with me when I'm out with my car/friend is drivin me.
Jayden Reed
i live in murica and experience the same shit
Isaiah Roberts
Big cities in america are practically third world countries
Matthew Sullivan
I mostly have it docked. I only ever take it out if I go to a friend's house, or take a shit.
