Why did the Source engine suffer so much from this? The game/engine literally freezes and the game window even says the program isn't responding. CSGO still suffers from this although the new D3D9Ex aliviates it tremendously. Dota 2 got it fixed when they ported the game to Source 2. Other games based on Source, like Apex Legends, don't have this issue.

because, a. the new UI and matchmaking completely glosses over community servers, and b. the game is like 12 years old and hardly anyone is around to play in them, or host them for that matter. both of these also make it way easier to just queue up for a game instead of going through the server browser looking for a server that has actual people playing in it

This game has become utterly unplayable for me over the years and its a damn shame. It's not because of all the bad changes over the years, but the framerate issue. Fucking Valve never does any optimization on it, making the game run at subpar frame rates on my laptop. My previous laptop was worse and ran it better at the time, meanwhile my current one is much better but can't run the game at a good FPS anymore.

There is no reason, ammo is so plentiful you should feel no penalty for increased air blast cost. A good pyro catches people from behind anyway so you might as well get those crits and instantly melt half the classes like you're playing a spy with a 20ft long arm.

Because they want instant gratification. They don't want to work to find a game and nowadays waiting 30 seconds is considered too long to find a game. A lot of my friends who used to sit around and bullshit for five minutes waiting for a match to fill can't wait any longer than 30 seconds for shit anymore. People don't want to manage ammo, manage health, manage position or tactics - they want to jump in, kill some bitches, and if they die, they'll jump into an entirely different game.

The bar has never been high for commitment to play video games. Video games have always been easier to enjoy together even before online than getting a fucking ball and throwing it between friends. But now the bar is lower. And game companies cater to these people; they have no reason to research anything pertaining to how a non-matchmaking system creates free value as players develop even closer personal bonds playing with people over and over. Look at Monster Hunter; there is zero fucking community now that there is an SOS system; and whatever old communities that used to exist are basically polluted role-play shitholes like here.

We are literally never going back. The golden age of gaming was actually fucking a decade ago when gamers actually formed bonds as if they were in a sports club or league together. And now all that's left is the bad mannering and shitty behavior from that age that is basically positively reinforced because there is zero repercussions for being an awful piece of shit because the matchmaker guarantees you'll never see that person again.

It's pretty intersting, the jist of it is that source can only handle "office room" sized areas and to make a large enough map for a battle royale you'd have to block player's line of sight and cobble a large map from those smaller room sized ones.

Why can't I have fun in this game anymore?
Every 6 months I come back to play for a bit but I just get so fucking angry that I can't enjoy it anymore. Configs destroy every fun cosmetic feature like ragolls, the game looks like shit, nothing feels fun anymore, kills don't feel satisfying and everyone has a personal vendetta against you if you headshot them.

I stopped playing in early april and came a week ago, and I feel like pubs get filled much more quickly now, I've started games where it was 2v4 and by the time the setup counter was down to 20 seconds, ot was already a 12v12 (Playing in Europe at 3am that is...)
Unless you've got recent experiences, I'd reccomend you get yourself mastercomfig v7 and gove the game another chance.
But when it comes to rage, I couldn't fix that issue yet, as a sniper main it doesn't help. Trying meditation now.

For me, a good way to play Spy is to think annoy the enemy team as much as humanly possible

Gunslinger ramps up damage so it's not an instant kill. It could be just a stun I guess, like the bow before yanking the arrow out.

Don't think I've ever seen someone caught in that taunt kill and make it out of it, I just assumed it was instant or near instant.
