How the FUCK did they make it so immersive?

Attached: Red Dead Redemption 2_20181104224927.jpg (3840x2160, 3.17M)

bein a cunt is a lot of fun

Attached: DtIRVYKXcAYfjfN.jpg (2048x1152, 168K)

Is 300 the max bounty?

In chapter 2 it is. Later in the game it goes to like 2k? or something I dont remember. My current save is just dicking around as much as possible in CH2

Excellent sound design.
Rockstar are the masters of the little details.
The enhanced interactivity of the game world and items.
God-tier lighting and weather system.

>100%
>553/553 Compendium
>all outfits unlocked at Trapper
>nothing to do but ride around
>still can't stop playing

How did they do it?

>God-tier lighting and weather system

Preach, it can't get better without going into ray tracing stuff, in fact I wonder if ray tracing would impact the stylized look.

Attached: Red Dead Redemption 2_20181104223415.jpg (3840x2160, 2.55M)

Its just a very comfy game.
For me, its camping in the Grizzlies with a fur coat and a Trapdoor rifle so I can RP as a mountain man

Attached: rdr2 sunset.png (1920x1080, 1.57M)

$1.5k per region.

I think ray tracing would enhance RDR2's painterly style, not take away from it.
Imagine St. Denis after a rainstorm and seeing accurate reflections in the puddles and rainslick cobblestone.

Attached: rdr2forest.jpg (1920x1080, 795K)

Yes the missions are extremely linear and there is a great deal of "walking simulator" stuff but if you like story in games & are a fan of Westerns RDR2 is incredible.

It's like "The Unforgiven" come to life in a game. Off mission there are so many activities & distractions that you could rarely play the story and still rack up 50 hours easy.

The visuals are insane; fuck the PC autists who try to shit on it, you get a quality 4K HDR screen and sit 5-6 feet from it in a dark room it is unreal the amount of details Rockstar implemented.

>tfw STILL can't give John his actual hair
what the fuck bros, are they just never going to patch that in? i don't want john to have arthur's hair, i want john to have JOHN'S hair

Alright hear me out, the map is basically the southern United States, east to west, scaled down. And they talk about Australia a lot, could be hint for Red Dead 3's setting? What if they simulate an entire continent and do early 20th century Australia coast-to-coast but condensed in the way they do to balance playability with scale. Or do you think you need a fat expanse of land beyond the borders of the map to keep the world space convincing?

Attached: Red Dead Redemption 2_20181210043829.jpg (3840x2160, 1.75M)

>TFW console plebs beta tested GOTG for me

Attached: PCGoldface.png (633x874, 56K)

I'm waiting for them to patch it so his red scarf doesn't clip through his neck. And so his chin and sideburn hair can grow past level 6.
Also to patch in the fucking weapons from RDR1 that're exclusive to RDR2's terrible multiplayer mode atm.

Attached: 1560295116002.jpg (483x361, 29K)

Australia could be cool.
Personally, I think a West Coast or PNW setting would be great.

I just want more guns, period.
That's one of my biggest complaints, the weapon roster (when you discount the melee weapons) is pretty weak. Locking the LeMat and Evans to MP is gay too, but unfortunately they probably won't bring them over to SP, at least going by how they handled the later DLCs for guns in GTAO.

Attached: RDR2 - Shotgun to the legs.webm (1280x720, 1.08M)

Had to delete the game and install it again without patching it to get the old lighting back
Fuck you rockstar nobody plays RDO, why remove shit to improve the fps there

What did they remove?

They absolutely nailed the sawed-off though, the most important gun in vidya.

Every shooting game should have decent gibbing by now, its almost 2020 yet the average shooter game still treats shooting people like its 2005.

Which patch was this?

>First time on the swamp zone
>Find dead dude hanging outta tree
>White face niggas popping outta nowhere
Not even the fucking ghost spooked me that much

Real shame that Online is a horrible grindfest

Same, dead of night too. Just before they attack you can hear them whistling and clicking to each other, and your horse gets spooked, heart jump out of my chest when one popped out of a tree and sprinted at me.

>Whistling and clicking
Shit for real? oh thank the lord i wasn't playing with a headset or with my ghetto stereo on, the witch like encounter got me good and i had to pull out the TNT bow.

I was lost in the swamp at night desperately trying to avoid gators when I heard sobbing and saw a campfire in the distance. There was a woman crying so I think obviously this is a trap, I go up prepared for some shit but wasn't expecting her to stab me with a poisoned knife. So I'm low on health and the screen is spinning and three of those ax guys are slowly walking towards me. I kill two and have to reload as the third just keeps walking towards me. I shot him just before he reached me but that was the most harrowing random event for me

The slow walking is the spookiest shit, also liked how arthur screams at them to speak in the stranger quest

yeah just like how you'd call your horse, only a little...off, out of tune. It set me on edge immediately because for a moment I thought I had accidentally called my horse, but was sure I couldn't have.

>tfw you go into the serial killers basement
I just knew that nigga was gonna pop up behind me somehow, but when he did it was still spooky as hell

>Not loading up the pump shottie with explosive rounds in the swamp

You honestly think it's a good game and I feel really bad for you because of it.

incendiary buck is my ammowife.

>yet the average shooter game still treats shooting people like its 2005.
In 05, games had people blowing up into chunks of gore over nothing. Games were way goreyer than they are today.

Attached: th (3).jpg (474x379, 20K)

ray tracing would kill the lighting of the game. it's not meant to be realistic, it's entirely designed around painting landscapes.

youtube.com/watch?v=SwFyrJPKzag

I miss when you can pile up too many corpses in the game.

TL;DR - nothing was downgraded, in fact the AO is much improved over the release version and a lot more refined, so if anything it looks better.

You can find Dutch's supposed heartfelt speech at the start of the game written down and stowed away at Horseshoe camp, it's not much but a nice early clue that Dutch isn't so genuine.

It was Buell to me, I haven't cried from a vidya since failing to save Rinoa from drifting into space, but boy was I close.

>tfw kept the fuck huge war horse you get from the code way back from chapter 1
that dumb animal took enough bullets that would make a space marine blush, i felt real bad when he went down

Post all your Dutch memes.

Attached: Mangoes.jpg (712x888, 126K)

>Dutch's face when Arthur says he gave him all he had

what are you talking about?

Attached: 1321622144404.jpg (223x251, 7K)

Strawberry sucks and is made for city slickers

ray tracing isn't just about relfections, and RDR2 has reflections too.

It's hidden a little bit away from the camp by an old cart, he rehearses his big speeches just like a politician he'd claim to despise.

What I want to know is how the fuck they made a game look so good on $300 hardware from 2013.

Console optimization, when you standardize your sku you can do voodoo.

T2 CEO speaking
>"It's possible that games may be a bit shorter than they were in certain instances," Zelnick told GamesIndustry. "It's possible that the ability to deliver content on an ongoing basis for a long time after an initial release of a hit would mean that perhaps that initial release wouldn't be as long in terms of number of hours of gameplay as previously had been demanded in a world where that was all you were getting."

>Zelnick said he noticed the gap between big titles and their sequel, as is the case of “GTA V” and “Red Dead Redemption.” “RDR” was followed by “Red Dead Redemption 2” eight years after the first title was launched. “GTA V,” on the other hand, was launched six years ago, but still doesn’t have an announced sequel to follow its success.

>Zelnick said he believes that this trend of wide gaps between titles will be gone soon.He even said that the years between releases might be shortened. He said that by engaging with consumers on an ongoing basis (via updates), the company has had less pressure releasing an all-new title.

Looks like Rockstar will start shitting out shovelware soon. Say goodbye to good games. They had a pretty good 15-20 year run.

We can pretty much kiss any hope of single player DLC goodbye, right? What would they even add to enhance the experience?

I love this game to fucking death. Should I play RDR1? I already know how it ends

Attached: 1555218301347.png (498x351, 347K)

That's rockstar thing ain't it? their engine is pretty much perfected at this point so optimization goes faster and better, have a bunch of people testing the every build to death, and that crunch time sauce and BAM

RDR1 is great.

Yes, marston is a great protag and the game aged ok if you play on a 360
undead nightmare is great and pol helbert moon must be seen by everyone in this board

It's jankier and has some glaring pacing issues but it's still worth a play.

Why did you play 2 before 1?

thoughts on RDRO?

it's going in the right direction and I kinda like how much stuff costs, not everyone can have a shotty, dual magnums, a rifle, good perks, and a good horse without hours so you buy into your strengths and trickle the rest from there. and it makes playing with friends more diverse when the situation calls for specific gear

Same shit happened to me, dead of night. I had just caught the alligator garr and had it on the back of my horse. When I respawned it was gone and I had to catch the fucking thing again.

did they debug the laggy controls and hotpatch it yet?

Arthur > John

After 100% completion, I'm now doing my 2nd playthrough and just arrived to Valentine to interact with all npcs, I didn't notice Thomas Downes was collecting charity in it.

Look at GTAv
Look at it
Closer
Theres your answer

They've got all the components of a flawless crpg in RDR2, even the "hold L2" dialogue system could be incredible if they expanded the response options a little more, make the missions more open ended with more freedom of execution and it'd be spotless. Maybe even a more critical build system with the trinkets and load outs, the metal armor from Online for Assault Arthurs versus Stealth-Archer Arthurs..

Attached: 1558367236860.png (166x205, 56K)

>that post Guarna scene with "May I, Stand Unshaken?"

fucking chills. At that point I just knew things were headed straight to the shitter. I did not expect a video game to grab me like this.

Attached: 1531891408694.jpg (480x534, 18K)

I would argue that john is the funnier one cause he had great one liners on 1.
Arthur on the other end had better emotional moments for sure, the train scene with the sister, the horse scene etc etc.
Fuck jack.

>all the components of a flawless crpg
It's called Fallout 1 and 2.

Red Dead ReMarstioned or Undead Nightmare 2

New Vegas in the R.A.G.E engine will always be my dream game.

No.

The gunplay could've been way WAY better, ever since max payne 3 rockstar keeps doing water down gun play
A bunch of QoL stuff is needed as well, faster animations for items, guns reseting when you mount the horse, not being able to take gang members out, only 3 big camps to raid

Ive thought for a while that R* would continue Jack Marston's story and turn it into a Grand Theft Auto set in the 1920's. After Jack avenges John he is drafted into the army and fights in world war 1, gains combat experience and then goes on to a life of organized crime in 1920s Liberty City or a Chicago equivalent. It would be really cool seeing both game universes merged into one.

The gun play is great, what are you talking about?
Having to manually work the bolt, lever, pump, and hammers adds to the deliberately slower pace of the game.
The only issue is that free aim feels nowhere near as smooth as MP3

i like john with short hair in this game

Attached: jm.jpg (1920x1080, 564K)

is take two retarded? when has rapidly increasing the tempo of releases for a studio ever turned out well in the long term? aren't they satisfied with owning a studio that literally pumps out money for them?

>Rockstar won't be able to surpass it.
That's what people said about RDR1.

He's too skinny I miss oaken Arthur.

I have a theory that Dutch was meant to be a playable character in RDR2. I notice on Guarma he has hair/beard growth that looks a lot similar to the mechanics that Arthur and John have. And his model in this chapter (facial expression, etc) looks like that of a playable character.

My theory is that the last choice in the game was going to determine a lot more. If you had saved John, you would play as John like normal. But if you had gone for the money, you would end up playing as Dutch in post-game. Alternatively, it could have been decided if you finished with good or bad honor (good = john, bad = dutch). I believe this is why the natives received such a focus in chapter 6, way more than anything else, because if you had played as Dutch you would have a camp and new gang with the natives. So they needed to establish them a lot in this chapter.

This idea, that post game playable character could be different depending on your choices, was probably scrapped as too ambitious and they just stuck with John. Thoughts? Do you think this was intended at one point?

Attached: dutch.jpg (1920x1080, 109K)

You nail it, free aim feels off for me.

slap a scout coat on him and he looks fine.

>if you have max bad karma that part doesn't play out

I just want a crpg set in the Old West. I grow weary of these fantasy and sci-fi settings.

As long as there's a little Weird West in it like Red Dead, you need the occasional ghost sighting, pagan cult ritual, or mutant inbred to keep your comprehension of reality raw.

I didn't understand why they included that. In 1 John is still pissed at Dutch but at the end of 2 he's thankful for him saving his and his friend's lives.

yes

J-just one more month until rdo gets it's summer update r-right bros

Here’s a Wierd West game

store.steampowered.com/app/307670/Hard_West/

I KNOW YOU

holy shit, never knew that was a thing

Gibbs pen

>his friends lives
What. Dutch only "saves" John's life. I say "saves" in quotes because he doesn't mean to save his life, he feels betrayed by John. He's just there to avenge arthur.
And John isn't passed at dutch in rdr1 anymore than he is by the end of rdr2

Be honest, how much of the weird shit did you find by yourself?

Attached: Rdr_strange_man.jpg (686x686, 55K)

Had the jew at kotaku not spilled the beans on the crunch, RDR2 would've won the goty

>played Call of Juarez a while back, but the jank made me drop it partway through
Man. I oughta finish that game already.

He saves Sadie's life dude. Also what indication is there that he was there to avenge Arthur?

that's about it

john asks what dutch is doing there and he responds with "same as you i suppose"

>Dutch? What are you doing here?
>same as you, I suppose.
2+2

What's your favorite Old West or Civil War revolver, anons?
Does the LeMat deserve the popularity that it gets with some anons on here?

>Also what indication is there that he was there to avenge Arthur?

>Why are you here, Dutch?
>Same reason as you, I suppose

...

I hope the pc version gets all the bells and whistles there is, RTX, nvidia hairworks, 10D audio, mods outta the ass
everything cause RDR2 deserves it.

I feel like Red Dead 2 is the peak of this medium, no dev will ever pour that much money, effort and soul into a passion project like this again

The SAA is just special for me.

What camp was the most comfy lads?

How do you mean? Rockstar is still going to make video games

At one point I really thought Sadie was going to be the epilogue character

Clemens Point > Horseshoe Overlook > Shady Belle > Beaver Hollow

Nah.
Horseshoe

Colt Walker or 1851 Navy.

RDR2 with all the bells and whistles would be the most immersive wildlife experience IMO

RDR1 is better because it feels like a more focused *game*, but I do appreciate the comfy atmosphere of RDR2. I wouldn't mind replaying it.

I actually feel the same. It's not the best designed game by any metric but in terms of effort and resources I don't think anything will ever best it. It's actually a massive accomplishment.

clements point. too bad you have to be a sheriff for rhoades the whole chapter

>John still can't swim

This game has probably the best writing I've ever seen and for that reason I cannot for the life of me forgive them for letting that stupid as fuck "sadie shows up behind micah " in the epilogue slip. It's literally impossible for her to have gotten there. What the fuck rockstar.

Whenever I come back to RDR2 after a dry spell, it's almost hard to believe that a video game like it exists. The level of detail, the physics, voice acting, graphics, animations, everything is if such high quality it's hard to believe it's even possible for such a game to exist. When I think of showing someone who's never played a video game before, what a video game can truly be, I think of showing them RDR2

So it has to do with the brother Dennis sidequest? Sucks that I missed that

that try to mess up peoples souls ugly pay jooijojo

I really felt bad for the old native dude and the US army dude, that whole part of chapter 6 felt really bitter, even more so than the camp falling apart.
Dude's tribes was broken to the last man, with a few tents and 2 cows to their name.

Roger Clarkes performance was incredible. You can tell the passion he had for his work. Also the guy has completed the game 100% and is working on a 2nd playthrough

Is the dude doing an LP? I'd totally watch it.

>Just got to epilogue on replay
>Finally get free reign as Marston
>Basically a soft reset of the entire game
>No money after getting all the treasure as Arthur
>Actually have to hunt+sell 3 star pelts and do bounties to make money to buy weapons and supplies

I'm really digging this tbqh. It feels like I'm really roleplaying as Marston in 1906 saving up to buy the ranch. I think I might just stop progressing the story as soon as I build Beecher's Hope and just make my living as a rancher.

>Dutch's voice actor is a absolute unit of a lad
No wonder he was going on about plans and speeches everytime without taking a break

I don't think I would play it with the current violence level..I'll watch a western movie but this is just awful.

you gotta do the squirrel sidequest dude

Actually about 75% of it. Exploring empty parts of the map made it kinda obvious.
