Is the english dub better than the japanese?

I gotta disagree with you fine folks. Being kind of a shitty know-it-all and sounding irritating is exactly what the character should be like. It's endearingly like a non-fiction teenager, it gives her somewhere to grow from, and it highlights the positive qualities of the rest of the cast.

it's one of two games I've played where there is an argument for English if you can choose either/or. The other is Xenoblade 1.

I'll give you the last part. Her awfulness as a person makes everyone else way more likable. I guess it's a credit to how well she was done as a character because I wouldn't ever want to be around someone like her in real life. Could be I'm just tired of the character type but I've never been fine of know it alls. Feels like if she were as smart as she thought she was she would know she still has lots to learn. Pompous attitudes just don't appeal to me.

Yep that's kind of the core thing she's learning throughout. Not that I can knock you for not really caring about someone you don't like to start with, but I found it kind a of refreshing choice to lean far enough into a character's flaws as to make her genuinely abrasive.

In the area of performances, the dub wins for me uncontested. Though on the topic of the Definitive Edition, it has some glaring inconsistencies that are difficult to overlook if you are even minutely pedantic. Firstly:

All in all, it makes it fairly hard for me to recommend even as a dubfag for someone on the fence. I'm used to it and while I love the dub, it needs to be addressed. If this bothers you, just go for Japanese.

The English version seems fine to me. I have a rather hard time listening to Japanese voice actors trying to pronounce obviously western words so for this I stick with dubs. In the same fashion, I also can't stand it when American VA try to say Japanese words so for Japanese heavy games I stick with the original dialogue.
