generally a huge step up from the first, although I do miss the gamepad as it worked better for the UI, plus its dpad is far better than the joycon equivalent

Slightly OT, but is that English?
Sounds extremely "Denglisch" to me.
This first one is neat idea, but if you jump on the 3rd thwomp too early in the beginning it breaks.
You also might want to reposition the checkpoint flag, as since it's behind the warp box it'll warp you back to the starting area and leave you stranded.

there were a couple areas, one was the pillar the other I think was the fire early on being offscreen as I was jumping up. I also died on one of the tracked blue platforms as it moved up (er, down?) too quickly taking me up to my death as I went through the first area too quickly.

The whole theme of this level is based around the giant world in Mario 3. There's two branching paths with the top one containing a secret boss battle at the end. Pay attention to the location of the falling koopas and goombas.

The mirror gimmick is really cool and clever, but it drags on a bit too long. The whole level is just one trick, and I feel that there is much more potential with this. It took me a couple of levels to get situated but I think this one's pretty good. SMB 1 classic platforming desert level where you have to collect 10 red coins. Not overly difficult, but should be a fun challenge in line with the original games.

I cheesed the fuck out of your level by bringing a dry bones as a shell (instead of riding it). Check my clear time, it shouldn't be possible.
Don't give players a shell after riding the poison water and you should be golden.
Also, I suggest creating a training room to illustrate the concept of what you're trying to do. Don't throw people in there , because some will not read your description.

Don't be afraid of that, user. If you put any effort at all into making your levels not-retarded you will almost guaranteed be better than at least 50% of what people upload. Even if your level is complete dogshit, you can get feedback, find out why, learn from the experience and then make non-dogshit levels. I believe in you.

Yeah... I know. I wanted the n64 music to only play in the sub-level. Another person also told me it kept restarting the music for him, but when I play it it's one continuous loop while going through the bumper vertical sublevel and the n64 logo only pops up once too..

I had a similar problem. I had to put the sounds on every space in a room so that you wouldn't be able to escape the sound. It's tedious to set up though.
If you attach to an object a player uses it'll stay.
As well, as attaching it to enemies.
At least that's how I got it to stay in my space level.

You have to either maintain your speed after each jump, or rock back and forth on the claw until you are able to get a big jump.
I understand why you're having trouble, as I spaced it out just a hair too far, but it's doable.

Have more time to type now, so to give descriptions:
The first is a fairly short level with a few bounces in the sky leading to a vertical section with some cranes and ice and a few final swings under stalactites. There's a bonus area if you pass up power ups.
The second is a castle level with shoe bouncing on dangerous obstacles and a split after the checkpoint.
I did it now. Apparently, releasing just before the end of the swing gives you more distance than doing it at the exact end.

I made my first level using SMB3, I think it's my favourite style. Doesn't have complicated bullshit controls and is so nice to look at.

Castle one was nice but try not to put hazards where players can't see them, the spikes in the ceiling of the first wall jump are guilty of this. the invisible block in field training made me quit immediately.

I think it depends on the type of course you make.
I notice that people tend to enjoy ones that you can easily speedrun through, vs ones that make you stop every few minutes, or make you fight anything.
I made one speedrun level, and it's my most popular compared to an easy puzzle level I made, and an auto scroller.
I made this level as sort of a World 1-1 for the 3D World style.

I cannot stop playing and I'm surprised at how basically every course I've played so far is at least decent.
I got dozens upon dozens of course ideas in my head too.
I can choose to play Toadette? Welp, time to shame my ancestors.
Cool level with a nice look, but it has a few parts that are more annoying than they need to be.
You should move the rightmost rainbow-claw a few spaces up.
The vines could be a tiny bit longer.
You should consider filling the platforms with spinies at the very start of the spinning segment.
Alternately, you could give the player a cape to give them more control over their jumps.
The ending, starting from the cannons, felt a bit uninspired compared to the rest of the level. This level has great potential and i think it deserves a better ending.
Thanks... bouncing around at max speed between two close bumpers made me laugh so hard while editing I had to make a level around it.

Its definitely an improvement over the first game, but there is one huge, HUGE drawback that not many people in here seem to have noticed... YOU CAN ONLY UPLOAD 32 FUCKING STAGES!!! There's also no way to extend this as far as I'm concerned! This is a fucking outrage! The first game had a limit as well, sure, but that one was 100 stages! And the online there was free!

Anyone find any Mario vs. Donkey kong like levels? When I saw you can escort toads around I thought that would be a really nice sub set of levels.
Generally speaking you can do two things
1. Reward people for finding hidden alternate routes
2. Make it obvious that the difficult route also comes with an extra reward.
For example you could have the normal way to go through a section but make it so people who willingly do it in the more difficult way get an extra big 30 coin or something.

Played both, liked both. I think I might have cheesed the Thwomp ride level in the last part, I rode the bottom one all the way to the goal and it didn't seem intentional.
i like doing some small diversions where the player can fight enemies but get rewarded with a mushroom/powerup, or they can take an easier route and not get any thing. but these are usually pretty small and join back together. personally i think straightforward platforming is the most fun

That said, players are just naturally drawn to coins like moths to light. Often you should use coins to "lead" players and show them what you want them to do or where you want them to go.

How do I make it so a player only gets power-ups if he has a mushroom? For example, if someone has a mushroom, they get a fireflower/cape. If they don't they just get a mushroom.

I like them if it ties into the theme of the stage by letting you test what you’ve learned on a boss. A lot of the time you can get away with using a mushroomed regular enemy if you use them right.
The idea was neat user, I enjoyed it until I died after getting the key on the mole pipe. Now I have to do the level over because my pink coins are gone from the checkpoint. I'll start over and try to complete it.
What's the deal with background elements? Am I just supposed to spam ground blocks until I get something I kind of like?

I feel like half of you could stand to benefit from watching the in-game tutorials. Things like having enemies standing right after checkpoints, swarming tight corridors with too many enemies, having unpredictable sections blindside the player and cause them to lose progress (aka beginner’s trap), these are easy mistakes you can avoid. Watch the tutorials; they’re great.

Great stages, nice and fairly difficult, managed to find that 30 coin and boot route in the castle stage.
Hell yeah. Someone finally played and cleared Soles. The block run took some fine tuning. I was trying to make it to where you had to break into a sprint immediately and still have the thwomp about a pixel behind you. Maybe it's a bit too tough?

PSA!!!! Before uploading a level, make sure you save a copy of it! It has been discovered that after you upload the level, the little sign that lets you know its uploaded stays there, meaning that when nintendo starts removing stages, you won't be able to change the part that got it banned to attempt to reupload it! So make dure you make a copy of it BEFORE you upload it! If you make a copy of it after it is uploaded, the copy will still have the "uploaded" symbol!
To anyone who beats this, please let me know how challenging it was. I have trouble gauging that sort of thing.

Alright, so this is a 3D world level I finally completed. It's toy-themed stage that revolves around mass producing the toys you need to get through the it, and has a heavy emphasis on sliding and bouncing. I also took inspiration from Classic Sonic stages and put an alternate, more difficult bottom route that you can enjoy on a second playthrough if you're interested.
I don't think it's too tough. I'll be honest, I usually try to run through levels the first couple times. I think it was fine overall.
Beat it 2nd try. It was alright. Tight jumps at the end

I've done it Yea Forums. I've created the most hideous looking course in Mario history, perhaps even all of video games. It's not really difficult, nor does it have any unfair Kaizo traps, it just looks really damn ugly.
Coins in strange places, mushroom platforms floating in mid-air, pipes that lead to nowhere, all the hallmarks of poor aesthetics are here. Played Track Labyrinth as well. Good level, though I would simplify the track a little so you can roughly work out where each switch sends it. That and maybe a reset door in the second area as a couple of times I got to the flag having missed one random coin.

i had one level removed in Mario Maker 1, but it was a troll level i made for a friend. My other levels were fine
Didn’t play the first one, I’m not sure how the sound effects work. Whenever I put music effects they only play for a few seconds then abruptly stop (SM64 slide theme). Sometimes it’ll play for the whole level but most times it’s limited. I have to be doing something wrong. How do you make it for the whole level like other levels I see online?
Well the fact that you used stone blocks for all your interior obstacles and platforms, and sometimes they were just an annoyance rather than adding challenge or fun (like the random one you have to jump-duck-slide under). Then there are some weird on-off blocks which again don't really add to the level in any way.

I’m playing around with this one enemy in 3D World that can bounce you like a spring but chases you around. I want to make a level where you “control” the spring by luring it around and using on-off blocks, beep blocks, and other stuff as obstacles. I think this could make for a neat level.

There's no shortcuts that I know of. I made sure of it. The level is easier if you manage to hold onto your power-ups, but it can still be beaten without them.

If you mean the part with the rocky wrench and the burner, you can still get past it with just a mushroom. It's also pretty easy if you have no power-ups.

Do multiplayer versus votes affect the overall ranking a level has, or just its ranking for multiplayer? There are some levels that are good but just don't work for versus and I don't want to slam their rating.

The answer, is, as always, how much do you like Mario?
Even MM1 was practically endless. If you LOVE platforming and puzzle solving, you could easily play it forever. If you kinda like Mario, maybe want to make a few levels, do the Story Mode, and do a couple of challenges, it'll probably be fair for the price. If you're suckered into the hype, and aren't enthralled by the idea of playing hundreds of ROM hacks, you'll probably feel ripped off.
You unlock a hammer powerup for Mario which makes him into the builder. You can smash the grey blocks and create boxes to reach greater heights.
You also get various hats and clothing by completing levels for characters. Nothing fancy.
I want to make a race car kind of course where you zoom around a "race track" with the koopa car
You get the super ball powerup too.
How far into story mode do I need to get for night themes? Playing these other courses with cozy night music is making me jealous.
All you need to do is place a moon (alternate form of angry sun) and yo uunlock night mode. All you get from Story Mode is hammer Mario and superball
You don't. Place the sun in your level and you'll unlock it immediately.
I played some easy endless Mario and only got one clusterfuck level and one auto mario but found about 10 really solid levels and maybe 20 passable ones

No idea what standards for "good" you guys have. I played normal for about 5 hours, got to 100 courses, and found maybe 3 good levels
I played normal and wanted to force my fist into my skull. I can forgive the silly levels that a child obviously made, but some of these levels are so fucking terrible right from the onset that I skip them before I even move Mario. I don’t want to do that, I want to give them a chance, but Jesus, it’s like 50% of players have never played a Mario game before.

Yea, SMM1 was crappier, but SMM2 is still crap. Full of shitty levels using claws, snake platforms, and on/off blocks just for the sake of it. The only really good level I found was a slide level where you switched slope conveyors directions to slide up hill so you could kill icicles. Sliding uphill is actually a really cool mechanic

I didn't understand where Spiny was supposed to be significant.
After getting the clown car I just breezed through the rest of the course without any trouble.
Yea I've seen all those before, but you're targeting a small niche making Twitch/YouTube fodder maps unless someone famous popularizes it I think.
Great map and subbed. I can see myself going back to play it again sometime.
I intended on keeping the clown car in that one area, rather than have it used throughout the level.
Most people are probably still testing out all the new objects and getting used to the new mechanics, give it a week or two.

Figured I'd give it a try, but didn't want to make a generic level so I got a bit creative with thwomps and toggle blocks.
I am interested in other ways to find and use interesting mechanics, timers and just plain satisfying levels to play.

I got the first clear and left a comment. This was a really good level, it took like 5 minutes but it was fun to explore. Since checkpoints can’t be used I appreciated that it was a super forgiving and comfy. Will look forward to your future levels.

Thanks man! Yeah I wish I could have put a checkpoint but I generally aim to make my levels more on the "normal" difficulty side if I can.

I'm bad at puzzles but I'm liking this. Not too obtuse and I really enjoy the concept.
It's beautifully laid out but it's about 20% too much stage for me personally, especially without an obvious mushroom to forgive one fuck-up. Still a creative use of switches though.

It's an antigravity stage where you have to keep twirling to survive. It's pretty damn comfy.
I just assume players are going to use the infinite shell pipes to shelmet up. Didnt want to make it too easy by giving both a mushroom and shelmet.

Sorry, but good troll levels only put boo rings and fish in boxes to kill you when you get softlocked from a real troll. Only 5 year olds put those in a box to be the troll itself
I played one nighttime ghost level that was great, actually. Played around with the idea of the darkness without resorting to bullshit since it used things like burners and fire flowers to light the way.
Hope you're ready for my auto-scrolling night-time underwater level with enemy spam and only 99 seconds to complete it. :^)
