It's entirely free, there are a lot of mods to choose from (Shattered is widely accepted as the best version of the game given the amount of content/mechanics and good balancing), it's an actual roguelike. Easy to learn and difficult to master, the only real "downside" would be graphics, and given it's a mobile roguelike the target audience likely doesn't care much.
There's also a paid pc version on Steam, but if it doesn't have access to Shattered content it's not worth it. A single playthrough can be over an hour long, put it down whenever you want, etc. It's legitimately the best mobile game I've ever played, and better than many native pc games I've played.

Plenty, 99% of them are ports though. Pixel dungeon is a fun roguelike that has virtually 0 depth (yes, all the forks like shattered are barebones too, don't lie to yourself). Evocreo is a pokemon clone that does alright for a dollar. bloons TD 5 and 6 were both developed with mobile first and foremost in their design philosophy, in terms of levels and balance. Emulation is a great way to make use of your phone.

oldschool runescape has a mobile client that's pretty robust. You shouldn't be doing stuff that can kill you, but if you just want to run birdhouses while you take a shit or something, it's great.
Recently i've been playing pokemmo which is just kanto hoenn and unova but multiplayer and harder trainers/gyms/e4.

The real question here is are there any good NON-MOBAGE/GACHA mobile games. I would rather pay some $15-20 bucks for something I can play occasionally when bored at work or whatever and not deal with the constant farming and random gambling bullshit.

You hit a wall eventually where grinding to get better items will take days or weeks unless you start dropping cash on enhancement items. I went with what I got (Which was total garbage) in dokkan, but I was playing when it first started so I was pretty alright, and able to progress okay. Less so now, since I have no level stones left i'm stuck waiting for events and hoarding stones to pray for good rolls.

Most newer games I never plan to play for very long, so I'll reroll once or twice and unless I pull something exceptional I'll just drop it entirely. That's what I did with FEH.

The only game I did that for was Granblue and it was miserable. Making dozens of new email accounts, trying to get a working script on Nox, and settling on an SSR Vira, all to drop the game 4 months later.

Definitely take the time to enjoy it, cause it's fun, but don't get tricked into saying "oh well maybe i'll just get this $2 starter pack..." cause while you speed ahead for a bit, it eventually runs dry and you hit an even bigger wall. I fell for it with lords mobile. I was ranked in the top 100, globally, up there with taiwanese whales, spending nearly $10,000 a month. Thankfully I had the money to burn so it didn't hurt me in any permanent capacity but it was still a shit decision. Now I cap out at $20 per game, ever, and most get nothing.
